This is the same Kagero-class destroyer, Hamakaze which I built back to 2004. It is the Aoshima 1/700 "Deluxe Edition" kit, with a very tasteless stainless steel etching film-but there were almost no domestic brand etching parts in those years in China, and imported etching parts were rare and expensive, and they were definitely luxury products to us. Today I overturned the ship model I built 17 years ago, repaired it (it was smashed by myself a few years ago), and put it together to take a photo to memorize the 17 years revolution in ship model building.

The custom-made lifting wooden base, with the nameplate, can enhance the presence and sense of luxury of the small destroyer.

Some details. This time I tried to use Evergreen's 0.13mm clear plastic sheet to reproduce the bridge windows, which looks more refined than a simple etched window frame. At the same time, the smooth surface of the transparent plastic sheet is closer to the texture of glass, unlike white glue which after drying the transparency is too crooked and distorted. The turret and the torpedo launcher are fixed to the deck with 2mm miniature magnets, which can be rotated very smoothly, but not too loose to fix the angle.

Hi Mates This is the third work I completed this year (the second ship). Construction started on May 3 and completed by the beginning of July. Kit: Pit-Road Flyhawk W213C 1/700 Kagero-class destroyer (new version) The completed state was transformed into the 1945 state Aftermarket parts: Five-star deluxe set (for Pit-Road old version kit) Sea soul deluxe set(for Fujimi, Pit-Road old version kit) Star model resin kit(only etching sheet used) Sea soul, five-star, rainbow, and Yongxin all kinds of general etching sheets/3D printing Northstar 1/700 3D printed sailor figures When I visited Flyhawk in late June, I received a set of official deluxe PE/metal parts set for Kagero, but unfortunately I was almost finished by then, and the set was designed for Kagero early stage, so I didn't use it in the end. If you want to do the early version Kagero class, I strongly recommend waiting for this set of super set, the coverage is quite comprehensive, and one set is satisfactory. (Poor my purse. I bought so many general-purpose pieces and I don't know by when I will used them up......) The figures are painted in the gray-green Type 3 uniform of the late war. In addition, in order to highlight the feeling of dead end at the end of the war, a lot of messy supply boxes and the like were added on the ship. IJN ships are all mouse-grey, and the deck is also brown, so it could look quite dark and ugly indeed. So we must add some elements of different colors to enrich the visual effect. The signal flag is the JZGA combination, which is the name of Yukikaze. Flyhawk kit detail is as excellent as ever, and the fitting is also very good. The boss of Flyhawk said that the anti-slip pattern was actually more delicate at the beginning, but Pit-Road strongly urged to change the size and thickness, which I personally think such a waste! But despite this, the various relief effects are still pass, there is no need to shovel and change PE, and some reliefs are even better than PE details. The painting of Yukikaze during the operation "Ten-Ichi-Go" refers to the paintings of IJN master, artist Yukio Mizuno, which was published on the cover of the 45th issue of the Pacific War History series "The Real Ship History of the Imperial Navy" by Gakken. When Yukikaze escorted Yamato Special Attack, she was the only ship that did not paint the Kissui Emblem on the chimney, but retained the original triangle logo, and the second chimney was painted with two white lines symbolizing the Second Mine Team. The reason is that the Captain Terauchi hoped to return to base safely as usual, which is also a silent protest against the special attack itself.

Thanks! It's the AFV Club kit. -
Thank you all for your encouragement and nice comments! Yes it was not an easy job to do, especially considering the size as of 1/700 scale. But thanks to Flyhawk kit's high quality and lots of useful references around, much of time and effort has been saved. I highly recommend Flyhawk kit to any one who is interested in Bismarck, especially in 700 scale. In my view it's even more detailed than the Trumpeter 350 scale kit. Thanks David! I'm sure by using correct tool and skill, you will definitely get there. I used stretched plastic sprue rods to apply super glue, with a very fine tweezer. Have a try and you will find it not so difficult, just patience will do the trick. Thanks Jeff and yes, you read my mind! I selected the date to tribute the historical story behind her. Hope it will remind different memory for different people. I was recalled watching National Geographic documentary telling how Dr. Robert Ballard found Bismarck wreckage with lots of old veteran's comments. It was so impressive that I still feel some of their voices wandering around my ears sometimes. I believe that is the true charming point brought by a model work, to me. Yufei

I also used some newspaper when Bismarck was sunk, downloaded from Internet as background to take photos. Hope it will remind you about the history and story behind this ship... That's all. Thanks for watching! Yufei Mao

Members 1,792 posts Gender:Male Location:Shanghai,China Posted 19 minutes ago To commemorate the passed away AFV Club CEO Mr. MH Tseng, I built this kit(presented by Mr. Tseng) during the Spring Festival holidays. Construction period: February 11 2021- March 28 2021 (interrupted due to several business trips in the middle, otherwise it can be completed within one month) Kit: AFV Club AR48109 1/48 F-CK-1B "Ching Kuo" two-seater trainer fighter Accessories: AFV Club resin Mk12 seat, Phase Hangar resin tail nozzle (I would like to especially thank the designer, Mr. John Chung, who personally sent me a set from Canada, so that there is no delay in working hours), Reskit resin wheels Scheme: 70th anniversary of the victory of the Anti-Japanese War "Tai Kong Ling" (Flying Tigers shark mouth) in July 2015 This is my second time buiding the kit after finishing the single-seater in 2017. The overall experience is as pleasant as always. The modification work is limited to the addition of pipelines, and some transparent effects (aviation lights, missile guide lense, etc.) are made with UV glue. Finally, I use this model to cherish the memory of its "father" Mr. Tseng. Thank you not only for frequently presenting me sample kits, but also for inviting me to Taiwan as a judge of the competition several times. Please rest in peace... Airliners.net image removed

Thanks all. To give it some military feeling, differentiate from the aerobatic ones. Surely to take the sensitive balance is the key point. I dippd the canopy in Future, but the soft plastic make the whole clear parts distorted I had to use CA glue to fix them on fuselage little by little. Dangerous action, try on your own responsibility...

Thank you all for your encouragement! It makes all effort and time invested so worthy! I believe modelling is like some spiritual exercise. There is simply no short cut to the final result, so it's so fair to everyone. The more you spent your time, the more suffering and struggling you felt, the more satisfied result you will get. Not an easy hobby especially in nowadays fast paced life, but it will not dissappear since the satisfaction it brings to people is simply unreplacable. Just some of my thoughts. Thank you again! Yufei

Finally all painting finished and decal appied too. Now I would make sea scape. First I cut 0.2mm clear plastic sheet to replicate the wave shape. Then I mask the sides of hull to avoid acrylic gell poluting the hull surface. The acrylic gell I used is a Chinese local brand called "CorMake" which is extremely cheap(around GBP0.6 for 1 bottle 50ml). First gell use is the "Pacific blue". After it's dried(around 15-20 minutes), add "semi clear wave effect" gell as the base shape of the waves. Then add "white wave" gell on the top of it, little by little, to create the wave texture. Tragic happened! The one piece long rai PE part was splashed off from the hull, due to the continous deformation of the resin hull. Yes even I use 5 nuts the hull is still keeping deforming! Also because of the tempreture I guess(it was winter at the time but the hull was fixed on the wooden base in autumn). So I cut the long PE part into 2 pieces, giving it more space to stretch so avoid splashing off again. You can see the ugly sanded hull surface... Repainted. That's all for the built. Never an easy job for 1/700 scale, especially the resin kit. But the satisfaction you get worth the effort. No pain no gain! Thanks for watching.

Here is some work in progress pictures: The Orange Hobby resin kit is severely deformed. I had to insert 5 nuts to force the hull flat, after trying hot water/dryer which approved useless. Now it's flat. I also add 1mm plastc sheet on the bottom of the hull, since I would add sea scape. Because the gell I used for sea scape is almost clear, I sprayed navy blue on the wooden base to add sea colour depth. I glued all PE parts before painting. Remove the glue trace by Q-tips with CA glue deliquescent digest. Most PE glued. Some parts were not glued on the deck since I would paint them seperately to avoid addtional masking work. Before painting. As I said some small parts were not glued. Actually even the main masts and tunnel part were not glued either. I planted some micro magnets in those parts and hull, so that they can be easily connected during dry fitting without glue the parts, for easier painting process. A very strong surfacer sprayed which is especially designed for resin(actually it's for automobile repair use). I paint this one together with the Yarmouth. Spray the deck color. And the long march of masking started(suffering)! This was insane!
