  1. Hello there I totally forgot in the earlier posts to mention my intentions for the camouflage schemešŸ˜…. My Montana will be painted in Measure 21, again a little bit different then the usual Measure 22 and actually grounded in reality with USS New Jersey. Battleships in that dark blue scheme looks quite menacing. I managed to paint the Forward Superstructure, next would be the forward mast rigging. Currently IĀ“m working on the hull, sanding and priming the seam. I will take pictures, when the railings are on. Cheers, Alex
  2. Thanks and yes, she would have been a beast. As I recall, there was never a kit in Plastic form, only resin. Ok, here are more pictures: The Rear Funnel The rear funnel was for some reason not the same hight, as the foward one. I checked the reference and it seems, that there are really differences concerning the builders model. The earlier one had actually (as I can manage to see it) funnels of different hight, the late model had very clearly funnels of the same hight. To correct this, I used some styrene. First Turret Those were straight forward, but I deleted the bofors and added some floats and baskets. The plastic barrels look quite good, only thing to do is drilling them a little bit out. Ok, this how the supestructure looks right now: The hull The fit was pretty good, tamiya surface primer (the one from the gluebottle) should be enough to smooth the joint. At the bow there are some very faint sinkmarks and at the stern is some burring from the slipmold. So, this is it for now. Next up is painting the forward superstructure and sanding and preparing the hull for primer. Cheers, Alex
  3. Hello there So because of the entire Covid-Situation i figured, I could start a somewhat longer build and decided on a project I wanted to do for a while, namely the never built USS Montana. The reasoning behind was, that the Iowas are one of my favorite Battleships, but my last attempt on one of those landed on the shelf of doom, which probably has something to do with aound 50 photoetch Oerlikons and Bofors šŸ˜…. To circumvent that a little and looking at pictures of the builder-model over at the invaluable navsource.org, I could delete a lot of the AA-armament by adding the boatdeck, the matching cranes. and the open bridge. Also I want to give the ship a little bit distinction from the Iowas. The Kit Veryfire is I think a relatively new manufacturer from China, but has already some nice plastic kits and the (in shipmodelling) obligatory upgrade sets in 350th and 700th scale. Their Montana-class kits are to my knowledge the only ones in plastic form and I think they did them in conjuction with Blueridge models, which already had resin versions of the subject. As you may notice, I didnĀ“t actually use the Montana kit, but the one for USS Louisiana, which has the open bridge for some reason, but that works in my favor. Curiously the Louisiana kit comes with parts for the enclosed bridge anyway and with some little modifications to the forward Superstructure, which is slightly different to the Monatana kit, you could easily build the ship with the enclosed bridge. The details for 700th scale are pretty great and you really have to look for tiniest amount of flash. There is also an extensive photoetch sheet with radars, railings, catapults and the rear crane. Additionally i got the "fast battleship" sheet form TomĀ“s modelworks which has parts for the early SK radar and boat cranes form the North-Carolinas, which I think look right for the Montana, compared to the builders model. And the last thing is the wooden deck sticker form Artwox, originally for the Montana kit, but it also fits the Louisiana version, except the base of the foward Superstructure, which requires a little bit of modification. The only thing that bugs me with this kit are the Bofors, they look to plain, but atleast the Oelikons are quite nice, you only have to glue photoetch shields on and they look the part, maybe a little thick, but I think itĀ“s okay. As you can see in the pictures I have already worked on the model for about a week and the superstructure is nearly done. Because it looked a little empty in places I used some baskets from the WEM Iowa/Missouri-photoetch sheet to liven thinks up a bit. The only thing the kit-photoetch is missing are ladders, I might have to think of something, but also donĀ“t want to overdo it. In the past I got bogged down in details and the fun went with it sometimes, so this time IĀ“m compromising: only add details where absolutely necessary. That the ships never actually got build gives me a lot of creative freedom there, which is nicešŸ˜„. Ok. but now some pictures of the actual build: The lower Superstruture This one was kind of my testbed for the build process, which I hoped to speed up a little: First putting everything (plastic, railings) together, the priming, painting and in the end putting the wooden deck on. The wooden deck was a little problematic because it crashes a with the railings in some places (my fault), but luckily I cut it out first, dryfitted and trimmed it. Only then I glued it on. (The deck blue color is another question for another timešŸ˜…) (also one sticker is still missing) The Forward superstructure The FwSuperstructure went together without problems, the radars were another thing altogether. The SK radar and Main Director are form the TomĀ“s sheet, a little bit fiddly, but manageable. the secondary directors on the other hand nearly ended in catastrophe and I have no idea why. Now they are a little bit crooked, but I can live with that. Ok, thatĀ“s it for the moment. I did build some more, but need to take pictures first. I hope you had fun until now1 and stay safe Cheers, Alex P.S.: Here is the link to the Montana- page on navsource http://www.navsource.org/archives/01/67.htm IĀ“m not quite sure, if I am allowed to include their pictures in my posts. P.S.2: I know, that the picture quality is not the best, but for now my smartphone has to do, my camera broke
  4. Thanks for the advice and good looking MiG there! This time I drilled all necessary holes, opened some panels up and glued the fuselage halves together. I thinned the plastic a little bit from the inside, I think it looks more realistic. With the engine: You can see the Oiltanks(?), but I think I will add some wires, it looks kinda empty right now. Then I build the landing gear and tested, if I need to add weight in the nose, but being a MiG it was inevitable, i have to encounter one, which doesnĀ“t need a nose weight. Well, without the engines itĀ“s ok... Thanks for looking, Alex Ps: I have to work on the open panels a little bit more, they are a little bit rough right now. Ps2: The Tailfins are not glued yet, but the tailplanes are installed and they are movable. The System is a little bit weird, because you have to sandwich them together between the fuselage halves. I would have preferred to install them later, breaking the attachment pins is just an accident waiting to happen.
  5. Yes, i think i will display one engine open, would be a waste if not. Anyway, i finished up the underside. What a pain.... There are two Problems, the fit of the main gear bays and the fit of the intakes to the fuselage. Fitting the wheel wells left me with gaps, that i closed with some sheet plastic, on the one hand to give it some extra strength, i donĀ“t think that you will see that much in the end. The intakes are relatively straight forward at first, glueing the two halves together and then filling the seamline with some vallejo putty. But the fit of the intakes to the fuselage is, well, not great. There was a lot of dryfitting and trimming involved also some putty, but in the end IĀ“m kinda satisfied. Next will be mating the fuselage halves together. Alex
  6. Hello, i wanted to build a Fulcrum in 1/48 scale since a long time and finally got around to do it. It is also my first WIP, hopefully of many. The kit has nice details, so i will build it OOB, except for some scratchbuilding here and there plus the ejection seat, where IĀ“m currently eying the Quickboost one. I started with the cockpit, which was pretty straightforward, Decals for the IP, Vallejo Pale Blue gray on, detail painting, and then some drybrushing with light gull gray to add some highlights. IĀ“m going to add some wires too, but I have to wait for the new Seat to avoid any fit issues. The other thing I did, was painting the engines. Those are really nice and in my opinion one of the Highlights of this kit, contrasting the burner cans, which are kind of a nightmare. So, thatĀ“s it for now. Thanks for looking and please excuse my english Alex (Edit: I think i fixed the photos)
  7. Hello there fellow modelers, it has been a little long since my last post and now i want to show you my AZ model Bf 109K-4 in 2nd scale. It was build OOB, for painting i used mostly Vallejo, for weathering oil paints. The fit was good, but it has definitve the feeling of a limited run kit, so some portions of the build were tricky for example fitting the cockpit section into the fuselage. Also the canopy had a little crack in it, but after dipping it two times it was fine. And in the end i could not resist to put the outer wing cannons on šŸ˜. Comments are welcome, enjoy the photos šŸ˜„ Cheers
  8. Hello there, i wanted to present my latest Project, the Eduard 109G-6 (Profipack Edition) which is undoubtedly one of there best kits and one of the best 109s in 1/48 out there. I chose the Markings for " 2./JG300 Red 8" flown by Kurt Gabler only to find out, that there is a little bit Discussion on this plane on the internet, specifically if Gabler actually flew this Aircraft. But after some research iĀ“m pretty convinced, that this is Gablers Plane. According to the Eduard Instructions, the Aircraft was stripped of paint to reduce weight and drag to match the RAF Mosquitos. Consesus seems to exist, that the "8" on both sides of the Fuselage is actually black, so i put the right decals on. I found it a joy to build, all went together very well, i only had some minor Problems with the Radiators because there was not much room for Photoetch. I must admit, that i kinda screwed up the bare metal paint work. I used Tamiya gloss black as undercoat for the Vallejo metal color Chrome (more like a bright silver) but the surface after painting was pretty rough so i had to sand it down as best as i could with Grit 2000 Sandpaper. In the end i tink it turned out ok. One tip, donĀ“t use Tamiya Clear Gloss with a paintbrush on the Vallejo metal colors, it eats into it, i found out the hard way. From there on i used the acrylic Clears from AK, worked ok. As a first for me, i used an Oil wash on the model and have to say i like it very very much, the oil brings the rivet detail of the kit really to life. The model ws sealed with AK Satin, but i thought it was still too shiny on the wings, so used Tamiya Clear flat on top of that. So, now the pictures, i hope you like it. Cheers P.S.: Dust is the enemy.
  9. Hello there, this is my P-40E from Hasegawa OOB, i used mainly Vallejo and Tamiya Paints, the model is brush painted. Also this is my first go at chipping, i used Vallejos chipping medium and it worked pretty well. Well, it got a little bit heavy in the end, but i kinda like it. Also my first go with oils for streaks etc. By the way, iĀ“m still figuring out the photographing part.... Hope you like, Cheers
  10. Great Work! I really like the weathering...now i get itchy to start my little eduard spitfire in my stash
  11. Thank you guys Well, I just googled it, "Zero riveting plan" i think and then some results popped right up, but i did not use one specific plan. Also i looked at pictures from the real thing, so in the end the riveting job was more like a approximation then a perfect replica. Mhm, on the box it states that it is the A6M2, but iĀ“m not an expert on the subject Best regards
  12. Hello, iĀ“m new here and wanted to share with you my most recent Build, the Tamiya 1/72 Zeke (Kit no. 60779 i think). The Kit is a little gem, it almost fell together by itself. Also was building this kit the first time i reriveted something, the only thing this little kit really needed. For paints i used Tamiya plus Vallejo Model Air and Metal Color, applied with a Painbrush. Also for the first time I sanded lightly the paint down bringing those rivets to life. Then some stains with a cotton bud, a light dark grey wash and a little bit of drybrushing. I hope you enjoy the Pictures! P.S.: IĀ“m still figuring out how to properly take pictures with my camera and how to post them, so next time the pictures should be better.
  13. Hello my Name is Alex and i recently got back into the hobby.( My english is not that good, but i think i will try^^). I was lurking around on BM already for some time and now am finally joining the fun. As a Kid I built (more like chuking together) some Kits, mainly Aircraft and some ships, but now some decades later my models are somewhat presentable It started (again) some years ago with some WWII ships, with a focus on some beatiful British Battlecruisers and Battleships, and now IĀ“m mainly building aircraft, from modern Jets to WWI, but with a little preference for those metal finishes Also IĀ“m building a little bit SciFi, Star Trek, Star Wars and perhaps other things, if they interest me. Anyway, iĀ“m looking forward to learning new modeling techniques from you, posting the results an all in all having fun! P.s.: I try to post something of my work as soon as possible, now , letĀ“s get started
