  1. Thanks, Chris. The stage I dread the most is coming: replacing all struts and landing gear, and then add them to the model, mounting that upper wing properly aligned and secured. Yikes!
  2. There is no kit that can't be built. They only require infinite time, infinite patience, and infinite skills. That wouldn't be a very happy BDay 😁
  3. Dearest Martian Glad to hear of your steady progress. We keep your seat at the BM bench with a sign that reads "Reserved - any transgressions will be swiftly and harshly dealt with, in the most alien way; believe us, you don't want to know" It's indeed, as mentioned by others above, a good therapy to build -without pressure and at your own pace- scale models. But the speediest and fullest recoveries are achieved by building civil scale models .
  4. Great one! And yes, I too loved to watch that show (black & white!)! I can still hear the bridge background sonar sounds!
  5. Absolutely beautiful replica, congratulations! Has all the flavor of the original!
  6. The fuselage of model number 1 -that will be on floats- gets the same tail rigging, struts, and control cable details. It still had the tail bumper, but no tailskid of course:
  7. Unusual and attractive scheme! Congratulations. All the tribulations paid off at the end. Sea turtles are indeed magnificent creatures, it's wonderful to see them celebrated. I photographed them frequently while snorkeling in Hawaii:
  8. In a month, it will be two years since I started these two models. In the interim of course I have started and completed a not small number of other models, but the long time with these two speaks volumes about the bad quality of these Omega resins. Omega is now, together with Merlin and the oldest Dujin kits, on my list of "do not buy" kits. Details are added to the wings, aileron horns and cables, as well as some of the piping. Each tank had its own gauge (the stems in the clothespin), that will be added in position, behind the protrusions on the center of the wing, angled inwards to face the pilot : Tail rigging, struts, control cables, tailskid and bumper are added to the fuselage of the second model:
  9. Here in California the weather is produced in Hollywood, lots of special effects, and no rain or snow, as they ruin the set and increase the budget.
  10. Details are added to the second model, three vents and the decal for the sun on the rudder. The "window maker" liquid is still drying: A "metal" plaque and a retractable step are added on the other side: Calming sunset:
  11. Making progress on both models. Model #2 (that will be on wheels) is about to receive the metal paint: As commented somewhere above, the resin struts and landing gears are very poor in many regards, and have very dubious mechanical strength, especially for a resin brick like this one. I had resin models with their original landing gear splayed out in a couple years, as the resin unavoidably succumbs to gravity. I started painting brass Strutz lengths to use in these models, but on second thought I just acquired a small soldering kit (more powerful than my electronics one) to teach myself to solder brass/copper and be able to do proper M and N struts, instead of bonding the lengths with cyanoacrylate glue as I normally do. We'll see.
  12. Your idea is a very good one, I am sure Mike may consider it. My post was in jokingly tone.
  13. Or presented with the model as a spare engine on a trestle? You know how it is with modeling... Warum einfach, wenn's auch kompliziert geht (Why easy when it can be complicated?) P/S: I've found that telling other modelers what to do is far easier than do stuff myself! Brilliant!)
  14. Great job there on a challenging kit. Welcome to the Micro-World of Mikro-Mir! I have built their 1/72 kits of the NIAI-1 Fanera, the Miles Aerovan, started their KhAI-3, and have the Tupolev G-1. It can, of course, be done, but only with very enthusiastic participation. Flash and fit ARE notable issues. I am sure you will achieve a great model from these not so encouraging parts.
