  1. Great job Tobby, and I especially like the top view.
  2. The 911 is complete: http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/235030409-tamiya-124-porsche-911-gt1/
  3. This was to have been my first ever car kit, but as some of you will have noticed, the Fujimi Ford GT40 pipped it to the post, despite the Ford being started much, much later. The Porsche was, as I suspected, a bit too ambitious for a ‘first’, but never the less it’s provided me with much valuable experience so I can’t really complain. The biggest headache for me was determining in what order to assemble and paint and if I was doing it again I’d change quite a few of my practices. As the Ford, it’s built ‘out of the box’ as I wanted to keep the experience as simple as possible (simple? yeh, right!) Anyway, it’s been an enjoyable build and here it is for your delectation warts an’ all. As ever, all useful criticism is gratefully accepted. Porsche and Ford together:
  4. The mistake is that the lower bodywork (sill members?) directly in front of the rear wheels sticks out like a pair of horns and should have been cut off and sanded to shape. But anyway, thank you all for the kind words.
  5. I haven’t quite finished the Tamiya Porsche GT1 yet, but I couldn’t resist purchasing the Revell Porsche 918 Spyder, complete with aftermarket resin wheels and decal sheet. Hopefully by the time I’ve done with it, it’ll turn out something like this:
  6. This kit was given to me as a gift from a GT40 fan, who I suspect has many more such models in his stash, so I thought I’d give it a bash and see how it’d turn out. Please bear in mind this is my first ever completed car kit as I never had an interest in vehicles as a young modeller, much preferring axis aircraft. Anyway, I found a few problems with the kit which caused a headache or two, but I eventually sorted myself out and learned that compromising was going to be the only way forward. Incidentally, I missed out an important process in the instructions which I didn’t spot until near the end of the build, but I’ll put that down to experience, not being senile! Can you spot the mistake? For some reason the rear body shell was slightly skewed, the number and spot decals were much too large (I made my own smaller spot for the front, and luckily for me the prototype didn’t have a number on it), the rear wheels bind on the wheel arches and none of the clear light covers fitted very well. However, I think the finished model definitely has the ‘look’ of a GT40 and I learned so much from the building and painting of this model that I’ll definitely be trying more in the future. As an aside, I also have the Tamiya Porsche GT1 as a WIP which was going to be my first car, but somehow this one jumped the queue, don’t ask! Please feel free to give any comments because I know it’s far from perfect, but as a first project I’m not too disappointed.
  7. Very nice build Ian, but where’s the ‘Mobil 1’ decal on the rear panel under the spoiler?
  8. Just a quick update Ian; I’ve actually managed to re paint the shell, spray window surrounds etc, and apply the decals. All I’ll say is “what a night mare the decals are!” I’ve also masked off the windows in preparation for spraying and once they’re installed I’ll tidy up the bodywork paint where there are some ragged edges. I’ll be back!
  9. If you tap on the photos they simply pop into perspective, well at least they do on my iPad.
  10. That’s nicely done especially considering it’s 1/72 scale. Also, I can’t believe how fine those windscreen wipers are!
  11. Lovely job! BTW, if you didn’t already know, the Donnington Collection (at the race track) near Derby have 6 of these HD’s on show, all in beautiful condition. Ideal for build detail pictures.
  12. One of the better looking race cars from my era. Job well done!
  13. Personally I'd like to see the tank in a more 'well used' and dirty condition, but that's just my taste, anyway it's a great diorama!
  14. I've been looking at this kit on eBay as I fancy having a go at a custom car. Is the quality of parts and plating ok?
  15. Very nicely done, especially as it's to 1/72 scale!
  16. For a first go at a F1 car you've picked a fairly complex subject, but managed to do a cracking job, well done sir! Personally I'm not much into F1 cars, but I must admit to having a Tamiya Michael Schumacher Ferrari F1-2000 in my stash. Maybe one day I might get round to building it, then again.....
  17. How are going to colour the window surrounds? After making a pig's ear of brush painting mine I'm thinking of using a paint pen this time.
  18. Blimey Ian, you're a proper hard core serial builder! Anyhoo, what do you use to scribe the panel lines? I'm thinking of tools that I might need in the future that can go on my Christmas list.
  19. Your getting to the finishing line much quicker than I, but your not quite there yet so I might still be able to catch up! All being well I should be able to spray the top coats today.
  20. Absolutely stunning Tobby, your Tiger's weathering is skilfully executed. The rust on the exhausts is very realistic and the diorama is very good too.
