  1. Hmmmm.....a most unusual mottled camouflage scheme but probably very effective over certain terrain. Decals next??
  2. "......the horror.......the horror......" Can't wait! Q
  3. I do love a Hunter. And I'd love to see the AeroCraft conversion being done...... Just a thought!! Have fun with this one meantime. Q
  4. Sorry Ray - I couldn't find anything for mine either. That wasn't really very helpful was it?? Sorry. Q Perhaps someone clever has made themselves a 3D printed one .......................anybody??
  5. Aircraft capable of vertical flight / hovering (Harrier, F35B etc) will always have MDC or similar mechanism as there is no airflow to help clear the canopy out of the ejection path. The seat system is generally capable of deciding whether to jettison the canopy (conventional fast jet flight) or to blow the MDC (hover / vertical flight / flat spin). Engine failure at low altitude hover is a particularly dangerous situation, as there may be virtually no reaction time available before impact, so the seat itself may initiate ejection without any crew input. Q
  6. I recently bought from Hypersonic in Japan using PayPal - when I was redirected to the payment site, PayPal had already made the conversion from Yen to GBP and the total cost seemed extremely reasonable. My PayPal account defaults to a debit card rather than a credit card - don't know if that is relevant to the calculation of charges??? Q
  7. A lovely rendition Alistair. I love to see a Jaguar in pink. Q
  8. Hi. You could try this thread... .....11 pages of goodies. On page 4 there is discussion of mod-1503 air brakes which is perhaps relevant to your question. Hope you find what you're looking for. Q
  9. Welcome aboard. I may have bitten off more than my meagre skills can chew..... Niall
  10. Thanks Alistair. I hadn't realised how much work is required on the Airfix kit - and I'm being fairly picky about which battles I choose to fight. Having said that, I'm really having fun making corrections and learning new tricks as I go along .................... ........and now I REALLY wish I'd left the engine nacelle vents alone. Perhaps one day I'll forgive you for suggesting this one .................but not just yet Niall
  11. Many thanks John. Your website is a constant source of information and inspiration. Thanks WP. I made notes from other builds here on BM and John's Canberra Sig site so I can't claim to be an authority on the subject. Happy if it's helpful though. Niall
  12. Chapter 2 Holy Canberras Batman Well here we are again - and with something to report. Isn't that nice? The most important thing, of course, is to mention Daughter's graduation - she is now BSc. (Hons) in diagnostic radiology - now licensed to fire radiation, sound and magnetic pulses at the trusting public....perhaps she can now assist me in my death ray development as part of my plan for global supremacy?? And the other stuff relates to the Canberra build. Happily I have been in touch with Hypersonic: new canopy sets have been poured, and an example has been shipped from Japan to Quack Towers (unfortunately by surface mail so there may be some delay) In the meantime, I have an Airfix kit and a resin interior set to play with - and by play with...I mean attack with scary power tools! The CMK set includes a new detailed section covering the deck behind the pilot's seat, and also the Nav panel which sits in the Hinge-out nose section. Both will need to survive the ham-fisted carvings of Quack.... 06 by Dr. Quack, on Flickr A start has been made with other parts as well - the bomb-bay / sensor bay insert has had the broad forward window fitted but this will need blended and painted as it was panelled over during the later era being modelled here. Ailerons are assembled using the kit uppers with moulded blisters (actuator fairings?) and the thinner lower halves (Airfix provide alternative lower halves - the thinner ones should be used - saves a lot of sanding!) Also - we can see the rather deep trenches in the rudder which will need filled and reduced significantly. 07 by Dr. Quack, on Flickr The CMK resin set also includes a new roof for the Nav compartment. It looks like this will require cutting out a large section of the nose in front of the pilot's cockpit in order to provide a bit of detail to the interior roof of the Nav position. I decided to skip this part as I doubt I'll ever see the detail once it's painted black, and I'm concerned that the cutting will weaken the front fuselage join significantly. Time for Quack to bravely run away! 09 by Dr. Quack, on Flickr Ejection seats look good - they have been cut from their pouring blocks and ready for priming. CMK provide an etched double loop face-blind firing handle which is correct for the pilot's seat, but none is supplied for the Nav - it should be a single D loop anyway so I'll probably make that from wire. The seat pan firing handles are moulded in, but are a bit small and inconspicuous which is a pity as it's one of the more visible features on the Nav seat. Happily I have a couple of ready made bits in the spares box which I can use when the time comes. 10 by Dr. Quack, on Flickr Attention then turned to the underwing details mentioned in Post #1. The incorrect Doppler panel has been filled - I've tried sprue goo and Mr. Surfacer in different versions on a few underwing panel lines, and I'm still not sure which is the best / easiest method. Primer will tell if more work is needed. I also drilled a hole for the light which has been missed by Airfix. This was plugged with a cone of clear stretched sprue then sanded and polished. Looks good enough for me. 13 by Dr. Quack, on Flickr Encouraged by the work on the light, I decided to bite the bullet and drill holes in the nose for the camera ports which are missed by Airfix - or rather they are simply represented by black dot decals. 16 by Dr. Quack, on Flickr Whilst in the mood for filling and drilling, the hole for the air scoop was filled on the forward fuselage as it needs moved high up beside the cockpit, and the hole for the fuel dump nozzle was repositioned after checking reference pics. 14 by Dr. Quack, on Flickr The resin part for the deck behind the pilot's seat has had holes drilled to look more realistic - just needs tidied up a bit, now that I look at these pics. 15 by Dr. Quack, on Flickr Yet more filling and cutting to reposition the vents on the forward portion of the engine nacelle upper surfaces - these are moulded as a mirror image by Airfix, but should be identical so the right side needs reworking. 17 by Dr. Quack, on Flickr Work in progress - still need to get things tidy and sanded to matching sizes. 19 by Dr. Quack, on Flickr And finally - Started opening up the footwells for the Nav - yet more drilling / cutting / sanding - still to be tidied up properly......first one side 20 by Dr. Quack, on Flickr Then the other.... 21 by Dr. Quack, on Flickr I'll need to add some footplates and restore some wiring detail, but I think it'll be worth it. Needs tidied up - so still plenty of opportunities for disaster! That's all for now Keep Calm all, and mangle / drill / sand some plastic. Q Jings Batman! that's a lot of holes ye've made in yon kit. Help ma Boab Robin! Whit have I started??
  13. Nice. And by that I mean very nice. Q Who fancies a K2 in pink.
  14. An interesting scheme. Can you give us some more background details?? I would love to know more. Q
  15. Great - thanks - The Japanese site seemed to be out of stock last time I looked - hadn't noticed the 48'ers 👍
  16. Thanks again John. I've been looking for a Hypersonic canopy but can't seem to track one down. Anybody got one in the attic that they won't be using?????
  17. Love the Mohawk, but never modelled one. One of those quirky `form-follows-function` aircraft. Looks like a very comprehensive kit! Fine start. Q
  18. Many thanks John - I noticed that it doesn't work on my (ancient) tablet or phone - glad to know I'll be able to access on PC. 👍 Thanks (again!). Are those the mods next to the wingtip lights?? I've noted those in some pics, possibly on the walkaround here on BM. Not sure how I'll do them but I'll give it thought....... I agree that the BOZ pods look pretty cool but John confirms my suspicions (thanks again (er....again)) that they would be incorrect for this time period. I believe they were used over Bosnia, but not since. Grateful thanks for all the advice everybody - every snippet and tip most welcome. Niall Q P.S. John - just accessed the Sig Site - WOW. It is overwhelmingly awesome! Big thank you.
