Thanks for the info-good to know!
Again I'm no expert as this is my second attempt at a caunter but i'd say it looks harder than it is. I didn't spend ages masking, maybe about 20min per side. It's a little tricky when trying to mask over the raised details but a few nicks with a scalpel here and there to get the tape to conform and you're away.
I really liked your A13 MkI build and scene on Calais beach, it made me ponder for quite a while whether to do this one as 1st Armoured
Love your Caunter. I need to get up the stones to try one. I hear Tamiya tape is good for masking?

Phew, ok looks very similar to what I had leftover too. I was wondering if I should have fitted those grills over the engine covers or not. I couldn't find any pictures of an A13 which showed the top of the tank very well so I wasn't sure
You are correct to leave the screens off. They were not used until very late apparently (they were definitely not on the earlier Battle of France marks). I finished my build of the Bronco A13 Mk1 earlier this year. I replaced the rear deck with the corrected one from TMD. Attaching the upper and lower hulls can be a challenge, but I followed Terry Ashley’s advice on his PMMS review that suggests starting at the rear and working forward. The pieces pull together nicely.
Your Caunter scheme is fantastically executed. I’m hoping to build this version, but the paint has me intimidated!

Really liking your work on this one. It’s inspiring me to pick up another Grant!

Looking good-excellent tonal modulation and wood effects.
I don’t know that I’d want to be in an open-topped vehicle with those rockets though! I know they mounted them on 251s, but there’s a LOT of blast out of the back of those things! Fritz won’t be asleep long...

I pretty much gave up on this one four or five years ago after putting in a lot of work on the interior and engine compartment. I haven’t built any German armour in years because I wasn’t happy with the very flat, lifeless-looking monochromatic grey finish I had sprayed back then. I pulled this one out of mothballs and repainted it using techniques I’ve worked on in the past few years and I’m now much happier with things and am finally motivated to finish it.
I put together a crewman out of spare parts and a Hornet head to give the project some scale.

Great looking Grant, and I particularly like the figure. Is it Hornet?

I like the riveted hull combined with the casting texture on the turret and transmission cover. Another nice point of contrast are the OD sand shields, it's subtle but effective. The model already looks kind of dusty without any apparent pigment deposits, maybe it's the ultra matte finish, just can't put my finger on it. How did you achieve this?
Cheers,
Ernst
Some of that comes from the filters-the thinner dries like that.

In the course of trying to trace my father's military footsteps I managed to obtain a transcript of the 3RTR regimental diary for the months of July-September 1942, and that was certainly very enlightening.
Anyways, apologies for the slight divergence in your thread
No worries at all. Those diaries can be fascinating as well as sobering.

They had 24 Grants at Gazala, including the serial number for the one I’m building, which was lost.

Looking good
Interesting choice of theme (i.e. 3RTR) - any particular reason for that?

This will be the base finish Light Stone with OD sand shields.

Again-this is spectacular!

I too have too much in my stash that was state of the art 25-40 years ago and have the cutting-edge replacements, so I will also never build a bunch. I donated 60-70 kits to a veterans’/servicemens’ group where they went to very good use and were greatly appreciated. I strongly recommend that if you can do so!

Bronco PzKpfw. 35(t) Shelf Queen revisited
in Work in Progress - Armour
Posted · Edited by f matthews
What started out as a lifeless dark grey was “ruined” by using a commercially-produced filter “for Panzer Grey”, which is a strong blue tint, unlike the real Panzer Grey. This made the tank look light blue, and just not correct.
That flub shelved this project back in 2018 for the second time (I put it aside in 2015 because I wasn’t happy with the finish). I pulled it out of mothballs this time, determined to wither fix it or bin it and gradually worked the finish out with different browns, tans and greys to get it back where I was happier with it.
The “blue” photos above appear much bluer than they were live, those were taken outside under sunlight. It still needed toning-down. In-progress photos are a great way to see where you’re screwing something up or missed a spot.
Thanks for the comments-it’s getting there finally! Hand-painted the numbers on the turret (I’m not a fan of decals).
