  1. The above post is the first one to make sense to me regarding this rant. If a magazine doesn't offer what you specifically want, write your own! Start a blog, it's free and requires only your time and effort if you're prepared to give it. Magazines have their place, ive subscribed and bought various publications over the years and the one thing that remains constant is that I buy and read when the content interests me, I stop doing so when it either does not or it begins (as all hobby magazines do inevitably), repeating itself. Practical Sportsbikes is a non modelling example, a great magazine for anyone with an interest in motorbikes between 1970 and 1999, but, for me, it hit the point of repeating tech tips, tutorials and slowly becoming practical Yamaha RD stroker monthly, there's only so many times you can read about a restoration of a bike that doesn't interest you, (admittedly I'm odd in that I grew up in an era of strokers when learner bikes especially in 4 stroke format were the rarer beast but I couldn't wait to get onto the bigger 4 strokes and away from the tinnitus ring zing ding of the stroker). That said, lots and lots and heaps more people LOVE THEM so the mags gradually creep toward the more popular or more common. This is why we see Spits and bf109's in spades, they're a common and popular and prevalent kit. I'd love to see a publication aimed specifically at 24th scale cars and 12th scale bikes, but would it appeal to others as much as me? I'd love to see a publication without a single jet aircraft in it, because they bore the pants off me, (I made one for a friend and truly hated the build, I had to drag myself through it and only did because it was a gift) But, jets are popular, any browse through any forum shows me that, on a forum however, I can skip the jet build threads and not feel like I've wasted money on the magazine and flipped by the three jet builds to read the 2 prop plane articles. In short, if the content doesn't interest you, angers you, upsets you, or disagrees generally, dont get it. If there's nothing out there covering a subject you want, make one!
  2. It doesn't, what does happen however is that the holes that get punched through the polystyrene gradually enlarge and it compresses into the edges making it harder to stab (bits of sprue) into so needs replacement after a while, cocktail sticks would make it last longer though and when bits do come off they tend to be larger chunks. I've used this with a mixture of cocktail sticks, q tip sticks, (fluffy bit removed of course) and cocktail sticks depending on what I'm sticking to them but having looked at the edge on corrugated cardboard stands recently I might make one like that, they're a very simple construction.
  3. If it's continuing, see a Dr. Yes it could be the paint solely that you've had an adverse reaction to but it could be combined with something else or it could be something else entirely. As far as the paint is concerned, cellulose/lacquer based paints are very unpleasant and even spraying outdoors can get you lightheaded, I've primed and painted full size bike parts on gentle breeze outdoor days and inhaled it still. Cracking open a window if you're having a decent spray session won't be adequate, you should certainly be using a respirator and not one of those paper dust masks, a half decent 3M type with replaceable filters.
  4. American date format, mm/dd/yyyy (applicable to most but not exclusively all of the US)
  5. Thankyou, I was really pleased with the Panigale build and it fit together so well too. Great kit.
  6. Haven't had the pleasure? of seeing one of the real thing let alone working on one, (fiddly or not in a dream garage i'd have one), i've not gotten to the serious assembly of the kit yet so i'll let you know
  7. Thanks guys. Working on a Tamiya Bimota Tesi right now. Stevej60, I recommend any of the Tamiya bike kits, they're excellent.
  8. Thankyou kindly. I enjoyed this one, a really fun build and prompted some googling and a rewatch of the wheeler dealers episode where they tidied one up for resale. Never understood the appeal of BMW having worked on those and Mercs many years ago as a mechanic but this one is really interesting.
  9. Completed 1:24 BMW Z1 Roadster by Revell. Not a bad kit but some trimming and cleanup to get everything to fit cleanly. I chose not to go with one of BMW's original colour choices as they were all incredibly bland and boring for such a quirky and interesting car. The Z1 was originally launched as a concept but interest and demand were high enough to encourage a small production run. 10. Thanks, some nice decal sheets on your site there, I quite fancy building an H van.
  11. To be fair, I've no idea what they go for, but I wouldn't be surprised knowing how kits can go. I've never actually searched for one, this one just happened to be on a swaps group and I happened to have some aircraft, (if I recall), that I'd never build.
  12. Todays kids will never know the struggle, nor the use of a pencil to manually wind a cassette reel.
  13. Radio 1 top 40 on a sunday, remember trying to record the songs on cassette and attempting cutting the dj off who always spoke just as the song started and before it ended completely. So annoying.
  14. Thanks, they are very evocative vehicles, the Fords of the 70's and 80's. I was never a Ford fan though I've had an Escort and worked on plenty while I was a mechanic, they're easier to work on than that kit was to make fit properly.
  15. Most recently completed build for a friend who has 2 Capris and an unhealthy obsession with vehicles generally. This was a terrible kit needing a LOT of work to get things to fit but that doesn't alter the fact that the scale is all over the place, that said, it looks like a Capri and i'm reasonably pleased with it. 16. Tamiya Ducati Panigale 1199s Suzuki RG250 Gamma, built for a friend to replicate the one he owned as a gift. Honda NR
