  1. Oh wow - I remember trying to make one of those more accurate (or I should probably say less inaccurate…) following the instructions in an old “how-to” book back when I was but a mere lad. Must see if I can dig it out…
  2. Firstly, that cockpit detailing looks fantastic . Secondly, taking an old basic kit and correcting/detailing it to bring it up to today's standards is, for me, probably a lot more satisfying than completing the latest "perfect" kit... which is why I have an old Matchbox Spitfire VIII, a Pegasus Spit prototype, and the Airfix Harrier from 1968?9? on the go at the moment, whilst ignoring much more recent, accurate and detailed kits in my stash... Nige
  3. It was probably all that talk about Zafiras and Escorts that confused people...
  4. Wow. I mean… wow. We always knew that these were going to be the ultimate 1/72 Hawks. And here they are. Finished. And stunningly good. As expected. I can only reiterate all the plaudits that have already been… plaudited? … A thoroughly enthralling, joyous and instructive journey for which I thank you, Steve. I don’t know how I feel now - it is the end of an era. Or at least half an era…
  5. Just stumbled across this thread - you're making an ancient kit look really good. Now, somewhere in my loft there is the wreck of one of these... I wonder...
  6. ooh this looks interesting… I shall pull up a seat and watch. I’ve got Dinky, Konami, and Vivid Imaginations diecast versions but have never managed to get my hands on a (reasonably priced) one of these. I’ve also never quite understood why Imai always seemed to sacrifice accuracy for some rather lame play features…
  7. Cor... Fabulous piece of work. But then we'd expect nothing less...
  8. I had a Zafira for a while. The only real issue I had with it was that, in icy weather, the water that somehow seeped into the handbrake cable froze solid. This gripped the cable meaning it was impossible to release the handbrake… In cold weather I had to remember to leave the handbrake off and the car in gear. There was the odd occasion when I had to drive down the road very slowly accompanied by the smell of burning brakes…
  9. No mine was round. I think it was an ex-police panda car, because when we took up the carpet on one occasion we found some pale blue paint beneath the rather horrible brown repaint. Oh, and quite a lot of bits of windscreen...
  10. That's looking rather lovely, Bill. I picked up one of these for a song last year from a certain European supermarket and am sorely tempted to get it out and get started. If only I didn't already have about ten other projects on the go already...
  11. That's the kind of surprise I like from an online purchase. I recently took delivery of a Matchbox Meteor with a PR10 conversion kit and some white metal undercarriage included - a nice bonus! Nice work on fairing in the Reskit parts, by the way
  12. Actually if you look around on this forum not everyone's work is museum standard (although as you say certain people produce some beautiful models), so don't be embarrassed about sharing - they're a friendly bunch on here and any criticism is (usually) positive and helpful. I can guarantee by the completion of your build you will have learnt a few things from the more experienced modellers, and be looking forward to putting them into practice on your next build... I built the ancient Airfix C-130 many many moons ago and I can positively state that however yours turns out it will be 100% better than my effort! Following with interest.
  13. Thanks for those kind words (and indeed to @HL-10 , @Kallisti and @Bertie McBoatface who also commented) - it all helps restore the modelling mojo (which hasn't been much in evidence over the last couple of months thanks to COVID, cold weather, a cold, wet weather, etc, etc). Cheers, guys Nige
  14. Bill - I have a dead Airfix Phantom in my scrapbox taking up space. If, when you eventually get around to the build stage, you need any bits from it, apart from the canopy and undercart which is long gone, just let me know. Nige
  15. I may have said this before, but it bears repeating - it is very hard to believe that this is all done in 1/72 scale... Stunning detail.
