  1. Happy New Year everyone... So, these little pieces, P18... This is what they look like. I am supposed to bend them twice on each end. Forget it. That's beyond my eyesight/patience/etc... Instead, since I am not suing the PE straps anyway (tape will be substituted) I have glued small pieces of Evergreen strip on the hood. I will use a razor saw to give them a little gap and also file them down a bit to reduce their profile. Or, if that doesn't work I will remove them, drill tiny holes and use some very thin brass wire to recreate them. We shall see. I moved on with jeep #2...the one with the spindles and so forth... I substituted a pice of brass rod for the axle (Ha 3) as the plastic piece seemed too flimsy. This is where I stand as the end of 2023... --John
  2. Ha! I would be best served with a set of optical visors...thank you. So I have read! Well done. So this was what I worked on last night... It should look like this... The pieces involved...some are so small. I ended up just glueing things together. It was easiest for me. And I ended up with this...which I see I will have to fix. But it's close! And it only took an hour! --John
  3. I kept on telling myself to upload the pictures into the gallery and days went by and I almost forgot! Decent model, not without its faults, but easily overcome. It looks best from 75cm...😂 I'd like to build the Special Hobby version. It looks like a better kit all around. Here's the WiP... Many thanks to our glorious and enthusiastic Mods, Paul and Craig. See you all in KUTA... --John
  4. I swear to the powers that be...I worked on this for an hour and half last night and all I did was bend tiny little pieces of PE. And I am building this kit in a very strange fashion. There doesn't really seem to be any logical flow to it. I just build, bend, attach what I see in the instructions, double checking along the way, etc...then turn the page. Very odd. Now...there are some plastic pieces that it is obvious I cannot attach them to the jeeps until the end, when there has been some individual painting with a hairy brush. This means guns, pioneer tools, etc...not all of these will get an OD colour. So ultimately I will have to go back and go through the plans again. Oooof...anyway... This is what's left of the PE... Most of what's left on the sprue is small stuff, obviously. I was actually able to do a little OD paint and some decals last night, on the boxes there. They'll get some matte varnish to even out the film. And that's where I left it. The barrel of the Lewis gun snapped off and so I glued a bit of sprue on on the end. I'll trim it down. I also assembled the Fortnum and Mason's hamper...what is that for anyway? I know it's not F&M...😉 Moving forward, I'm tempted to use thin pieces of tape for the remaining straps where I can. It's easier and they are more flexible and more easily glued down. I hope no one minds. --John
  5. Thank you both. It was very fun diorama to make and I enjoyed the GB immensely.
  6. I dipped into the smaller pieces and the PE last night. Basically the two radio sets and what appear to be battery packs. Also I assembled four of the jerry cans. I did what I could with the PE. It will look much better with paint on it. I think I might go ahead and just do as much of this kind of stuff as possible and then attach it all where it belongs. More tonight... --John
  7. OK. About an hour and half of work on this. Basically everything is to be built X2. Two jeeps, two sets of whatever, so that gives it an assembly line aspect. That's good. This is where I left off last summer... And so I'll start there...the seats... I assembled those. I also added the minuscule brake, clutch and gas pedals to both vehicles. Then I had to build this first...A29, A30 and Ja4. Three pieces. I'm just grateful the mounting hinges for the pieces are moulded on and not PE... Looks good...think X2... here's where that stood... And so I motored on... Since I attached the body to the chassis out of synch with the plans, I suddenly thought I'd have a problem with part # B30. No problem. Two different hoods bonnets. Two different jeeps. No problem either. Et voila... At this point one could say, "Well...add the windscreens and the wheels, a little paint and these could be good to go as they are, despite what the kit instructions say!" That would be true. But would it in the spirit of the KUTA GB? Certainly not! Next stage...lots of little things and lots of PE. Someday I'll paint. --John
  8. Thanks...yes...I was looking through the plans last night and the rest of the build is all little stuff, i.e. jerry cans, supplies boxes, radio equipment and all the assorted PE. So I'll start in tonight. That's fun about the jeeps!
  9. Thank you Adrian. It's a generic base I made for the photo galleries here. Suits any scale really. It even fit the 1/24th scale Trabant.
  10. I know. I'm actually kind of nervous. Like wrangling a snake...🤣 I think I can motor through it. I'll break it down into components. I think if I get the jeeps assembled and painted I can whip through the rest quickly (he said, with confidence...). I was very distracted last June. These days, not so much.
  11. Well...here's one that truly ticks all the boxes. I left it on the shelf, almost finished (or thereabouts) in June during the Recon and Scouting GB. Loads of PE (too much IMHO ), finely detailed and probably over-engineered. I've regretted it ever since. This will give me the perfect chance to build these two jeeps. What's in the box? And here's the original WiP from the GB last summer. I'll get to it before the New Year! --John
  12. I've changed my mind...I have been avoiding this kit(s) since I abandoned it back in June... It's perfect fit.
  13. I have a build going on in the WIP thread. I’ve kind of given up on it but I’d like to see it through. May I join in on the fun over here?
  14. Ok...I will continue this build and, I hope, finish it. It's kind of a dog, really. But I have made the commitment to do so... If I could have a kindly moderator please move this thread over to the KUTA GB area? Or do I do that? Thanks!
  15. Well done to all of us who participated in the Blitzenbuild! I am very impressed.
  16. I think I could build my US Navy patrol boat from Viet Nam?
