  1. It's not what's written on the website that people are referring to: there was a semi-official announcement which was unrelated to the current closure.
  2. I agree: I did a tester first and they looked OK. They stood up very well and didn't crack at all. However with many/most other Starter kits I have had to spray a coat of gloss on first and then cut round each one. Moral for me is to always find an expendable bit of the decal sheet and test first.
  3. Hearing rumours about WNW: anyone know the correct story?
  4. First one of 2020: it's Starter's 1/43 kit of the 1993 Toyota 93C-V, as driven by George Fouché, Eje Elgh and Steven Andskar at Le Mans that year. I bought this on a whim without realising it was driven by this trio, all of whom I've had the great pleasure to meet (and get autographs from). So sort-of a personal link without realising it.
  5. Looking good! One minor point if it helps: the anti-dazzle panel should kick up at the rear at the aft panel line, to meet the bottom of the canopy rail. It isn't horizontal all the way back. Hope it is an easy fix cos I know someone else will tell you when it's definitely too late!
  6. It's an M-B seat and modified canopy rails: standard on later Norwegian Fs.
  7. OOh nice: the blanks aren't always out when the engines are running. Not guilty but seen it done 🤫
  8. Blue is the squadron (Skv) colour; it's not beyond the realms that green could be a Flight colour. I looked at another colour shot and that too looks to be green. Either way, it's a pale shade compared to the Skv shade.
  9. You could always put intake blanks into the scoops: red, foam and with a fabric handle and 'remove before flight' flag attached. Red in colour and might provide some interest, as well as hiding anything you don't want seen: .
  10. Photo above is of a C-130J engine, and is missing the intake section. The C-130K's Allison T56A-15 is similar in configuration, these shots show the engine/gearbox/torque shaft assembled and with the intake section (not including the intake scoop at the fwd end) installed: And this is the whole lot installed in the QEC, seen from the other side and the scoop installed (extreme left) as well; Because of the 'ramp' of the intake, all you see when looking from the front, is the aft intake section as it rises to meet the compressor face; you don't even see the compressor front face unless you have a torch and are at a low-ish angle.
  11. Glad to see that Eduard has released a number of sets for the KH FJ-2 kit: FJ-2 Fury seatbelts STEEL 1/48 - Cat.No.: FE1077 PE (painted) FJ-2 Fury 1/48 - Cat.No.: FE1076 PE FJ-2 Fury 1/48 - Cat.No.: 491076 FJ-2 Fury masks for wheels & canopy (interior & exterior) 1/48 - Cat.No.: EX693 FJ-2 Fury masks for wheels & canopy (one side only) 1/48 - Cat.No.: EX692
  12. Looks like it might be green:
  13. James, That looks veeeery nice! Good work. Can't wait to see this one finished.
  14. I think there were two 747s today for parking; one just after 11 and a white-tail earlier. Also a few Airbus single-aisle. My mother (80+) lives under the approach and knows her airliners. She once won us a pair of tickets to RIAT after the Bournemouth Echo ran an aircraft silhouette competition: identify fives types. She got all five correct - Spitfire was reasonably easy, Hurricane less so. I was most proud of the fact that she got the Vulcan however. Today we had a RAF C-130J at low level and something rotary-winged about 30 minutes ago a LOT lower.
  15. The serial number on the painting is notional; the aircraft was DN305:
  16. I have visited his grave, in Minster, Kent. I have a photo somewhere.
  17. I recall there are a few for another squadron in the Wing but not for 435th FDS. Sadly while there are LOTS of decals for Korean War F-86A/E/F, the other units (the majority) haven't been done much, if at all. Edit: it's Eduard and I see they got the colours wrong because they have theirs in red trim, with 435th FDS badge!
  18. Yes they are, though rarely seen in glorious Technicolor 👍
  19. Wessex Aviation Society in Stapehill, Dorset. It was the brainchild on John May and I recall a great many ribs being made for it, each with a strange kink on the top side (a Wight/White peculiarity?) It must still exist somewhere? EDIT: I see it does: at Solent Sky in Southampton. John had a cowling for it but that seems to have gone missing. It looks a bit rough round the edges too! Photo here: https://www.jetphotos.com/photo/8717139 You can just make out the kink in the ribs - @Marklo you need to model that bit of strangeness too!
  20. I was involved with building a full-sized replica in 1978-ish. Intrigued to see how this goes.
  21. Yes rocket pylons, usually for small practice pods rather than individual rockets.
  22. ...and '947 went through 1708th Ferry Sqn at Kelly AFB, ending its days with the Imperial Iranian AF.
