  1. Did a bit of digging and can verify that the '6-3 wing in September 1952' statement is complete garbage. Hal Fischer's 'Paper Tiger' (51-12958) was not even assigned to 51st FIW until 3 November 1952!! Any idea where that statement came from? Would love to know who is peddling this disinformation. In fact there are photos of a still-slatted ‘Paper Tiger’ taken after Fischer made double ace on 21 March 1953. Fischer was shot down on 7 April 1953 (2 weeks later) but was not flying ‘Paper Tiger’ at that time. It is my opinion that it was circa mid-April 1953 that the aircraft received the hard-edge wing. This is the only shot I have of Fischer's F-86F with 6-3 wing; as can be seen, it has no personal markings. I think this is when it was received back from hard-edge conversion, when it went to 4th FIW.
  2. Great work: glad to see you've made a start on this one. Following with interest.
  3. Yes - it's a TACAN cooling intake: cut off & fill.
  4. Yes, a mix of 339th FIS at the beginning and 40th FIS later. 339th shots look like detachment to Chiayi, Taiwan.
  5. Don't know what it is, but it's a very attractive aircraft; engine on top of the centre section is intriguing. Was it a flying boat at some point? Maybe one for @Moa?
  6. It's possible that letters changed, but XD769 was definitely 'J': And XD719 was 'T' at the same time:
  7. I did try to get a certain well-known kit manufacturer to go for an F-86A and/or a slatted, narrow-chord wing but sadly no dice. Another opportunity missed and a big gap still to fill.
