  1. Hi, I have put about two months of work into my Revell 1/48th Mosquito and am very happy with the result. As it stands the model is built, weathered and had a semi gloss coat testing out Klear or Future whichever you prefer to call it. I dipped my canopy in it, allowed it to dry, along with all the other clear parts but for some reason it has not taken very well. By this I mean my canopy is patchy with fog, my attempts to rectify this have made it 10x worse. Whats more is that I have lost a clear part also. Therefore if anyone has a Mosquito build that they got part way through and gave up on and have the clear sprue I would be interested in it. Again this is a long shot, im not sure how many people have pieces of a kit lying around but I would like to buy it off you. The only other option I can think of is to acquire it from Revell Germany which takes weeks to arrive. Anyway if you do, let me know. The canopy is passed fixing and would be useless without the small bomber nose window that I lost. It might be at the bottom of the bottle of future but that is more hassle than its worth. I guess I have learnt a lesson from this which is rushing a kit is never a good idea, I wanted to get it done for Sunday as I am starting a new job so wont have time to make models all that often but instead have majorly delayed the process. 2. Maybe I should have been keeping it haha, I never thought of Poundland selling it but might buy a pack or two and just re use it. Nevertheless, im going to have to buy some more as I dont have enough to cover the camo pattern. I also bought some 3mm Tamiya Curved tape so will give that a go as well. In the meantime I will start my Stuka!
  3. Hi, I am close to finishing my 1 48 Mosquito however after masking the first camo colour with blu tack and liquid mask, the liquid mask did not completely cover the camo. It left the model with the second camo colour over the grey camo; I attempted to clean it up by re spraying the areas affected with the grey I used however as I built the colour up with different shades to add more depth the finish looks patchy and uneven. My question is, what is the best way to re do the grey camo colour without changing the camo pattern already laid down? I have been trying blu tack as it worked well last time but I am running out of it fast and feel it is a waste to use a pack of it for one model which causes it to go hard and not being able to use it again. Thanks, Ryan
  4. Hi guys, So I have been really enjoying building the Mosquito but have had a few issues with it, the cockpit parts did not look moulded correctly which meant I had to scratchbuild underneath the pilot seat so stop it leaning to the right, I followed the instructions completely but have a 7mm gap from joining the cockpit which is down to the fuselage itself as test fitting showed a gap. After fixing all these issues, the left wheel bay/ engine bay's parts are completely wrong; to the point where the back of the bay looks like its hanging off. Again, I tried to fix it the best I could which has made it considerable better but it is still not workable. Is it possible for a kit to be a one off and completely wrong moulds? The right side bay is fine and fits perfectly and is clearly different to the left side, different size and shape and all the reviews of this kit are fairly positive without any indication of major fit issues. I have emailed Revell hoping they can help, I know they have a spare parts page but their website says up to four weeks for the part to arrive. I am really unsure what to do/ what has happened, I have never had a kit like this before where ( if it is the moulding) the moulding is this poor. Thanks, Ryan
  5. Hi, I built this a month or so ago but forgot to upload it; this was a cheaper kit and quite basic but I wanted to give scratchbuilding a go and also tried to test effects on it to see what worked and what didn't. Overall I am pretty happy with the result, the only thing I haven't got round to is adding the antenna wiring, I plan on buying something that will work better than simply burning a sprue. I also forgot to take a photo of the complete cockpit before I sealed it up so a lot of the scratch build pieces are not viewable, the cockpit photos I did take were before I build the seat belts or the radio area. Let me know what you think, I am trying to improve on my builds so criticism is helpful! http://imgur.com/a/ppESE (Still cannot enter photos directly to the post, I know this is something I am doing but not sure how to fix it) Ryan
  6. Thanks, I have had this problem with Eduard photo etch in the past, it described the PE as being suitable for F2 or F4's which might be why it is in the 02 colouration. I might go ahead and paint it 02 in any case as if I painted 66 it would cause the PE parts to lose all the detail.
  7. About 6 months ago I bought ICM's BF109 F4 as it was on ebay with all eduard interior and exterior add- ons. I have began work on the cockpit gluing all the pieces that require painting and have noticed that the colour of the eduard cockpit pieces that are already detailed and 'painted' differ from the colour the cockpit should be. It is the RLM 02 luftwaffe cockpit colour when most sites and even the ICM instructions are using the RLM 66 black grey. Do I go with the RLM 02 and risk it being wrong? I only bought the kit for the eduard parts so do not want to waste them. Cheers, Ryan
  8. Thanks, the other slick arrived yesterday so will get on and buy some of these a/m parts. Cheers for all the help!
  9. A few weeks ago I bought this kit for quite a good price with it being my first heli build planned. I thought about scratchbuilding parts to make it look better but decided it would be more enjoyable to buy extras to make everything go smoothly. The main issue I am having with this being that I cannot find any relevant parts, I have to say, I do not usually buy extras as I usually get them with the kits I buy off ebay or scratchbuild so perhaps I am not looking in the right places. Even so, I want to have some M60 door guns and a better decal set for it. Could anyone recommend some what they feel would be suitable. I have found extras for other varients such as the B, C and H but not the D. I have just bought another one which I plan on adding with this one and perhaps turning it into a diorama so might cast the M60's to use on the other. Thanks
  10. I would be interested, if only I had the cash Would be awesome to see someone buy them to display at shows. It would be a definite winner for me
  11. Thought you guys might appreciate the photos I took of a Canberra whilst walking; the pictures were taken on my phone so are not great quality but was shocked to see this just sat here. There is also another plane which I believe is a hawker hunter!
  12. This is my third build since being back into the hobby and starting 1/48 and therefore the model is by no means perfect; nor was the process. The kit is very enjoyable to build with the PE parts adding nicely to the overall effect, I decided to take advantage of the nicely designed BMW 803 and having it partially visible as well as the MG's on display. Despite the kit fitting very nicely, I had real troubles with the decals; the spinner decal crumbled and the black stripe broke on one side. This meant I had to improvise using tamiya tape for both the spinner and the black stripe design (if anyone knows what this is really called let me know because I expect 'black stripe' isn't the technical term) and painted it instead; although you can notice the spinner being hand painted I am still quite pleased with the result and am more than happy with the stripe which came out a lot better than expected. PS. the antenna wire will be re- done but for now it will suffice. PPS... The tub of water is holding plants which is why it is there, I forgot to move it before taking the photos Thanks
  13. Hi, Sorry I did not notice any replies to this thread earlier and thankyou. You are definitely correct about the tips and advice, from this model being my first proper model I had made in a little while I had the bug for making 1 48 kits. I have since made a FW 190 A-8 and from using advice as well as taking my time a lot more to research the aircraft the results are a lot better. I will try and upload a photo of this soon as it has been built for quite a while but have not got round to taking any pictures. Cheers
  14. Cheers, I think that is closest to what I was thinking, I was using a colour reference chart which I think may need updating as the colours are not very close to match to the original aircraft's. Due to the lack of azure, I saw Hataka do a 'RAF in Africa' set which is cheaper than their singular paints so decided to go with this for ease. I think I will get and order them, thanks again.
  15. Hi, I have spent the majority of my night trying to find the right paints for a number of my models I have recently purchased; I will separate my questions into specific models so this post does not get too confusing. Revell 1/48 Mosquito B Mk. IV: I picked this one up last week along with a 1/48 B-25 Mitchell without thinking if I would have the right paints for it; in terms of acrylics, I was looking at Tamiya and Gunze aqueous as these are my two most used brands. I plan on painting the mosquito in a day colour scheme in opposition to the night variant. What Tamiya or Aqueous paints do I need to paint this? I looked at Tamiya's dark green as this is what I believed I needed but compared to the Gunze one, they are totally different colours (in the photo) so am very apprehensive on buying one and it being wrong. Therefore, would someone be able to tell me the three colours I need to paint this kit to avoid any more confusion or the wrong paints being ordered. Revell 1/48 Supermarine Spitfire Mk.Vc: I plan on painting this in the desert camo scheme to accompany my Bf109 in the same camo but am at a loss as to what colour to paint the underside; Azure blue is the colour it is supposed to be however most people have been saying all the colours are overly purple; could someone advise on what they feel is the best tamiya paint mix to attain the correct azure colour? After hours of searching for the right paints accompanied by a lot longer of trying to mask up Dragon's 1/48 Bf 110, which its canopy frame is not raised enough to cut tape to fit; my brain has turned to mush and am now resorting on asking you guys. Thanks, Ryan
  16. As the title suggests, I would appreciate if members on the forum who have used these paints could let me know whether they are any good for airbrushing. I have been using Gunze Aqueous on a 1/48 Bf 110 and also the same scale of a Fw 190A-8 and I honestly cannot fault the paint themselves; they are awesome to airbrush with and even work quite well hand painting small parts. The main thing that does bother me is the quite small 10ml pots combined with the £2 price point. After painting both these models I think I will not have much of the standard Luftwaffe colours left and the black is almost gone completely. Therefore, following using these paints, would switching the Revell Aqua paints be any good in terms of airbrushing? They come in 18ml pots and are also quite cheap. I tested out an old olive drab I had from a few years ago using water to thin, I noticed that the paint is quite thick from the pot and wonder whether they may be quite inconsistent. Either way, please let me know all your thoughts on these paints, needs be; i could buy colours such as black, grey, white to be used through my airbrush for pre- shading as I think this is where most of my colours are used. Thanks
  17. Hi, Having an issue where the paint is splattering, I dont think its the paints as I have just bought them and it has been point it before. I tried different thicknesses of paint and also thinned it down. I turned my Psi from 10-30 and it still splatters and also whilst changing the psi I used different trigger pressures. I have a badger 150 and a cheap £10 airbrush. They both do it. I changed the needle in the cheap one although am unsure if that is perfect, The badger is quite old and I used to use it when I had no clue how to clean airbrushes etc so could be a chance it is that. Also, with my badger, the o- ring easily slides. Does anyone have an idea what it is? I have tried a lot but nothing seems to work. I am hedging my bets that both airbrushes need new parts and the cheap one probably could do with a temporary fix. I will link a photo of the splatter.
  18. Hi Dave, yes. Luckily the 109 came with two different cockpits and therefore the cockpit which is meant to be on it could not be used. After freshly painting it I stupidly picked it up forgetting I had airbrush cleaner all over my hands and it fogged up. I wanted to get it finished before work so quickly painted the secondary one. I totally agree it needs a touch up so will do that now. Thanks
  19. Thanks, might buy a book by him then as it is quite a unique aircraft which I would love to see more about
  20. Hi, I am new to the forum and thought I would post my newly finished Airfix bf109. Before i show you the pictures, I would like to state that I have only just got back into the hobby after buying myself a proper air compressor. I have been ordering Mr hobby Aqueous paints as I am starting to buy more expensive models and would like to do them properly. For this model though, I used my humbrol enamel paints with some success. I am a bit dissapointed as I scratched the model quite bad from succesfully removing the paint that humbrol suggested ( it was way too dark for the underside) and also some of the parts melted a small amount too. All in all I think it went alright for my first proper airbrushing attempt although you will notice that my airbrushing needs a lot more practise and settings need more tweaking. The only extras I included was an edurd seatbelt taken from an old kit and a swastika taken from the same kit mentioned. Without rambling any longer, here is the finished kit, let me know what you think and more importantly, what you think I should do differently next time. As it will not let me post my images properly, I will add a link to imgur: http://m.imgur.com/a/zy9yK
  21. Hmm... yeah would seem a tad difficult to load them, I will continue to look around but if I cant find anything I think I will settle for removable panels and in any case if I build it and then decide I want it 'flight ready' I will just glue it into plave. Thanks lawzer
  22. Aww, haha I didn't exactly think that one through. I will take your advice and ask them what their reserve is and see if I can buy it although I am not sure whether if it has watchers it can be taken down? Cheers
  23. Hi, I recently bought a Dragon Bf110 d1 r1, it looks an amazing model with a ton of pieces and details. Considering the kit is so heavily detailed I want to show it off by having the MG's and engines on display etc. and maybe even make my first Diorama? Only trouble is, I can't find any photos showing this aircraft with engines and MG's on display so am not sure whether I remove the whole pieces that cover the engine and MG's or if they were on a hinge and should be kept on, but raised if you know what I mean. I have technical drawing from a book I bought on holiday but the cutaways for this plane do not show what I am looking for. If any of you have stumbled on a photo, drawing or build model displaying the 110's armaments and engines it would be really appreciated Thanks
  24. Hi, I buy most of my modelling things on ebay as I can usually get a bargain and hate the idea of paying full retail for items I was looking through and stumbled on this: 322488070995 which is the ebay item number. I did some counting and reckon this probably cost over £100 when you total in everything. For me, I usually use Mr Hobby Aqueous as I have just started using an airbrush but these paints all look like WW2 related aircraft paints and a lot of them too. My question is, how much would be a reasonable amount to pay for these, the ebay ad says a lot are un- opened and the rest are mostly full. I was thinking I would pay £80 at a most but reckon that is still a good deal + the little plastic tub things are really useful. They also had a nice eduard and revell spitfire in 1 48 scale which I am thinking about buying! Let me know what you guys think? (I didnt know where else to post this so apologies if it does not quite match)
