Airfix 2018 range announcement due 10.00 09/01/2018
Modelraynz replied to Stephen's topic in The Rumourmonger
That great they have brand saturation in the home market :-) but from the numbers a couple of pages back IIRC the domestic UK market makes up around 44% of sales, it'l be interesting to see their strategy with the new releases; should be RAF-heavy with the centennary, which id be hopping will give a boost to domestic revenue percentage this financial As pointed out it should be all done in dusted from their end ages ago, all thats left is the reveal ;-) -

I hope they are correct in those numbers for their sake - modelers can exist without Airfix, but Airfix cant exist without modellers...and children and their parents a'rnt exactly queing up to throw money at the hobby (this will only get worse: im in my 30s and modelling was niche when I was a kid!) For me the perfect "synergy kit" was the F-51D - recognisable and buildable for the novice, ticked all the boxes for a "serious" modeller with flaps, detail, accuracy, armament....I dont know how many I bought, but I keep finding em in the stash! With that concept in mind a spit ix with lots of options in the box (wing armament etc) would be good for the novice, and give a reason for expirenced modelers to buy dozens for all the fun of kitbashing etc.... Unfortunately on that note eduard bet them to the field with their spit and the "raw sprue" kits (forget the name) mean im pretty set for life, Dont get me wrong though; I hope they can pull out a winner!!! -

So the uk market makes up a minority 44% based on those numbers - if so; i really hope they continue to expand the scope a bit beyond british ww2 aircraft, (or atleast aircraft that had multiple operators) - as I know from the retail side in NZ that the RAF ww2 subject niche saturates REAL quick! People get the initial released because of the "wow! new kit!" factor and then it DIES.(I've yet to see a second wind on swordfish or lancs nomatter how many marks are put out) And unfortunately your left with wholesalers trying to dump their stock on you! Still fingers crossed for 8th!! -
Indeed! Diddn't stop me ordering 3!

A really nice build from moxing.net: Is it just me or does the wing look a bit too sharply swept or narrow?
-
* actually i might go for the following, as the above is closer to early mig-27 camo: vs bonus cockpit pic care of mr.Rodin:
-
not much to update, about to head off for vacation: got the nose looking a bit better thanks to mr.240 grit! picking up an airbrush in april, so using some tamiya rattlecans, made some quick and dirty swatches (the top one would work well for a mig-27D): and the winning combo might be ( minus the lime green!!): begun looking at ordinance too, any idea what RKB for FAB the revell mig-21 kit represents?
-
From memory i think its for a HF antenna ☺
-
Hiya! Yea, i am quite impressed with how close hasegawa got it, considering the pre-glastnost era of the kit; with a bit of tlc they can scrub up nicely, and until modelsvit or art model release a kit, its pretty much your only choice for a mig-27 sans suffix! Unfortunately my tallent for scribing is a bit limited, so wont be rescribing any of the key details, maybe on a future build...
-
begun working on the Al-21F engine; which is another of the mig-23b's distinguishing features ( here you can see its length past the brake parachute): for this i have simply the kit and zvezda r29 engine which will be sanded smooth: a quick overall shot w/ blutack to check dimensions:
-
begun assembling the fuselage: Hasegawas nose is quite a bit short so created a plug that will need to be sanded to shape: The other provlem is the nose/fuselauge join creates a nose up attitude, so a small plug is required just behind the cockpit: Some overall shots of the build progress:
-
And wadda ya know: Is a display, but might be an option

Hiya Only the center fuselage pylon was wet out of the 7 hardpoints (with the wing hardpoints only at minimum sweep in ferrying position) I don't think ive ever seen MERs on the lower fuselage pylons either, though quite common on the wing glove pylons, For research, I reckon your best bet is to dive into the russian interwebz: https://yandex.ru/images/pad/search?text=миг-27д&redircnt=1513118155.1 The Best of luck with your build!

Damn thats fast! -
I did some slight work on the intakes and decided to improve the wing pivot mechanism ( wings will be fixed, but the thicker wings will help with alignment)
-
hiya Due to visiting my folks for Christmas: I put my MiG-MLDG on hold for a smaller project: a MiG-23B (one of the first builds I'd done when 14 yrs old was an academy mig-27) for a bit of nostalgia: - not quite my craft studio, but has all the necessities: one of my first models, an academy mig-27: On to the new model; i decided to spruce up the cockpit from plasticard and just do a simple decal cockpit, also had to scratch build a new seat. Its not perfect, but should do the job..
-
What we need is.....more airfix football figures!! remember those. ..?
-
for the specific MLDG parts, i stuck a bit of luck from digging around in my spares whcih i can use for the Gardeniya jammer antena: ...and for the decals, i lucked out that the decograph had the same unit on their excellent mig-23ub sheet!!
-
starting with the nose; ive tried to create a better shape with a plasticard plug and lots of superglue and putty: I wasn't completely happy with the IP - luckily i had an old eduard panel i used instead of the kit part, ill still need to build the upper part with the HUD: luckily i've kept a few parts from zvezda kits over the years.....Drilled out some holes for the proper R-23 launch rails: Begun the task if reshaping the LERX with a dogtooth: The kit has some basic blocks to help properly align the wing swivel mechanism , i decided i wanted to make it a bit more fitting, so thickened the swivel joint and corrisponding parts on the kit, and now the wings can move smoothely and mantain alignment ( though will probably make these static later on in the build:
-
sooo....bit of a change of tack: since i couldn't really settle on a scheme, i decided to convert the hasegawa kit to a previous project i attempted with a zvezda kit: a Mig-23MLDG! Mig-23MLDG(23-57) 3 aircraft acquired systems developed for mig-29 to increase combat ability and survivability; however, it was decided to concentrate on development of the mig-29, and these aircraft remained an eclectic sub-variant. the main features of the Mig-23MLDG are: Shelm HMS cueing system, used in conjunction with the R-73 - SPO-15 Beyroza RWR was fitted - "Gardeniya" Jammer was also fitted internally to increase survivability. - Radar Remained the N003 though there is some indication it recieved some improvement One of these aircraft was left at Sary-shagan in Kazakhstan in a derelict state - (presumably was being used for trials, and testing in conjunction with the extensive radar/sam facilities at the site) and features the colourful markings of the: "1st AE 99 Guards Transbaikalian Orapa 1076 CAD (Test SAM) defense forces"
