  1. Thanks for the kind words! While I have some nicer spit kits I'm sitting on until I actually finish more, there is something about the chunky low detail airfix spitfire I really do like! Still humming and harring about the colours - want to pick up a can of ts-46 and see how it compares, I cleaned up the following pic to use as reference: Cool to know Beard! - haven't actually seen an az spitfire, but ive noticed fujimi spitfire s can other manufacturers inteiors well too! Thanks for the comments Rabbit - my biggest challenge is getting one to completion, a lot seem to end up in the bone yard! Lol
  2. Hi Folks! Id like to enter my 1/72 Airfix Spitfire IXc 'MA574" GC.I.7 "Provence". I was going to have this as a 'Anti AMS' build - but decided to add some quick and dirty detailing to make the cockpit look a little more busy and cramped! started with some spares from another airfix mk.I spit that diddnt quite make it, and added some basic detail from evergreen leftovers... ...Actually pretty happy with the result! I brush-painted the instruments with the new tamiya lacquer paints as I hate waiting for enamels to dry in winter, and im really happy with them - really recommend the flat coat for dulling down interiors, goes on smoothly with a brush and has a great flat and consistent finish! As I don't have an airbrush, ill be using tamiya rattle-cans - a good match is TS-3 and 90, as below on a test swatch ( with old decal) Thats all for now!
  3. managed to correct it somewhat by cutting off and reattaching the tail,...
  4. so....gluing the fuselage together: made sure all the seams were aligned and noticed the tail planes diddn't match on the horizontal!? - turns out my copy has a slightly warped rear fuselage!!! seriously annoying for a 2018 kit that's not cheap!!!! so if anybody has a copy where the fuselage seems to want to spring off during dry fit, you may want to check! decided to saw off the tail and reposition
  5. cockpit detail is really nice, and decals snuggled down well with some micro sol: I had heard that this kit dossnt slow tolerances for paint etc, but wow! - pretty much every mating surface has to be sanded back or join slightly filled to give appropriate clearance - as a result the whole wheel well cockpit tub assembly is quite a fiddly and frustrating experience Airfix!
  6. Hey folks! Here's my entry into the GB: a 1/72 Airfix 262 as a Avia s.92 Turbina with decals from an old Hasegawa kit: First up, is to paint all the interior pieces, I used Tamiya TS-17 Gloss Aluminum: Followed by a wash of Tamiya smoke - a cool tip i found is to put on the smoke, then spay with a light layer of ispropyl alcohol - this helps level out the rather fast drying acrylic and give a more even finish!
  7. illegal in nz under fair trading act - both if the manufacturer tries to enforce, and if the retailer does not display the true intended price of a product, (even if at a discount) pretty sure AU is the same,
  8. Hiya, I'm looking at contributing a Avia S-92 to the ME.262 GB but have some niggling questions i'm hoping someone on here can answer! Does anybody know if/what 'V' number this aircraft was assigned? I see it was painted and stenciled up, so assuming the next step was to give it a bort number! - quite interested in this particular ac as it has the two upper cannons faired over (and I can use the academy kit pretty much oob!) - the intake cones in museum examples are painted red - i cant tell if this is a cover, or just some artistic license? can anybody confirm what the centre intake cones were coloured on service machines? - of note the lower rudder hinge seems to be painted red also ( going from the bottom right part of the Czech roundel should be red!) - I know i need to expand the rudder trim tab, are there any other modifications i need to make to a 262 to an avia machine? any info really appreciated! Raymond
  9. Thats a good price for the profipack edition!! Most of the suggestions posted for aircraft id probably get a coupleof (except skyvan....it just so...van like!!) Fingers crossed on the price point, i cringed when the words "raising price' and 'add value to range" came out on a press release awhile back.... from my old retail expirence modellers love nostalgia and bargins...so could be a real winner, IF executed correctly..... dont know anything bout the toy soldier market....but raised an eyebrow for an initial release choice Ofcourse the risk is get the market wrong and you expend cash and effort just to create a bunch of future landfill!!
  10. Hopefully some nice ac kits like f-80 and f-86d!! Fot me here in nz, airfix have priced themselves out of impulse-buy territory for series 1 and 2 - if going to blow ~$24+ for a series 2! kit, might as well get something tastier from the east online! (For comparison, i keep finding f-51d's in my stash that id pick up around $14-16 when i saw em!) So cautiously hopefull of new range (asuming wholesaler dossnt price gouge on em!)
  11. Off the top of my head- im not sure! But the L/R fuselauge halfs want to naturally twist slightly - dossnt affect shape or need correction just has the tendacy to 'pop' off!!
  12. Indeed wow! Fantastic news!!! Got a bit of a horde of high planes kits, but this will be welcome nonetheless!
  13. Amk.....and amk! Hehe, actually not sure for 48th, but hands down for their 72nd, My 2c 1/72nd: Italeri feels slightly overscale in parts , soft panel detail, thats not consistant across parts ( right side vs left), lack of detail not just etched but in general shapes, esp in yhe nose. Youl need to realign verticle tail, nose strakes not symetric and probably a dozen other things ive omitted. Hasegawa; Seems to be better in scale (next to a high planes mirage) sharper details, and my personal preference before amk Amk: Wow. Not perfect but a massive leap ahead, careful checking of mating surfaces will br and odd raised dogteeth were what i initially noticed. Given one can cross kit parts from a high planes mirage pretty much oob , they both seem to be in scale Hth ☺
  14. Unfortunately is from dryfitying minus interior! Been good reading the thread tho, will have to be very careful with mating surfaces it seems!!! Small detail parts have been a bit of a dissapointer with the new releases re: lack of crispness, am liking the pabel lines though these days!
  15. Got my kit recently - is it normal the fuselauge wants to pop apart? As in takes some slight squeezing to get the fuselauge pins interlocking, though i cant see visible warping, feels like CA will be necessary!
  16. Another nice built specimin from the chinese interwebz
  17. yea i'm really hoping a decal maker will have a sheet out soon - roundels and bort numbers are easy to supplement, but warning markings etc are a bit tricker been looking over the kit and i noticed some good/bad news: the bad: the pylons for the wing tanks are not correct at all, these are included as a 'swept' forward pylon for ordinance: when in reality are a vertical pylon with bracing a la mig-19: infact when i "actually" look; the fuel tank is pretty off also! probably benefit from a mig-19 tank......though at 11pm here, it looks like an etendard tank may also fit the bill !?!?! the good news: its a simple enough shape that most modellers will probably have a suitable pylon....... plus now you have an extra stores pylon for mounting weapons outboard of the fueltank (no locator in to drill out though grrrr) Id be slightly miffed with trumpeter, if i wassnt so happy to have a fantan after all these years!
  18. yea..... well, about that..... ;-) ...Still kinda looking too!
  19. Yup!! Now we need some folks to make decals!! If i said id finished one already ......
  20. well, when i say 'build' i mean: Buy Unpack Inspect occasionally Lie dormant in stash Discard online at a later date :-D
  21. Well at least I can build "the navy" gnat from hotshots!!!
