  1. Hiya Dave! ive looked at your build many times for inspiration/guidance on correcting the matchbox kit all good mate, cheers! nice build! funnily i came across it when researching and went "oh crap" - when noticing the different tail! luckily my subject seems to be a standard one I ended up using old academy tempest instrument panels....aaaannd scratching a second cockpit (trying to decide on how best to do the slanted part of the instrument panel)
  2. for ordinance? im not sure yet! if the dodgy front nose.....well i used a simple brace, and sanded and filed away! ...until i gor the following also started scratchbuilding a cockpit from spares, not the most accurate, but shoudl do the job On the subject of noses....I also made a F.6 radiator
  3. Hey folks! Been thinking of a subject to build (given that i ordered a small boatload of the new KP kit :D) and this subject caught my eye: PR527 of Research and development flight out of RAF Chakeri/Uttar Pradesh in India. sadly i havent found any larger images, references or other material looking at a profile though, i think the camo is SEAC colours rather than the temperate scheme (due to white serial) - so i modified a profile below: so far, i have .... .a matchbox kit
  4. Id settle fot a re-release of their 1/72nd spitfire 22 (or dare dream for a new tool based on the work done for the 48th scale kit!)
  5. Wow fantastic photos Tonyot! I had wondered about the size of the fuselauge roundel, given the wing ones are of a larger size! the little ensign is cute! woudl need to do some custom decaling Thanks for the heads up 85sqn! ill try and find the article in all turning into quite a tasty subject
  6. ah yes the ragwing! could probably bash the italeri and revell together and get....something lol coudl maybe use the revel 50cals on the italeri wing, revell windscreen etc....or italeri coudl give us a new tool
  7. Cheers mate, its a good account eh! id made a non technical note for self refernece on one of the photos that might be of interest:
  8. Hiya Ive been looking into martlet IVs in USN markings aboard "USS Robin": It seems to be a 3 tone tone scheme similar to: Initially i thought these were usn, but i can see asifferent cowl shape and prop: Has anyone come across clearer photos of these machines? Cheers!
  9. Theres always the revell f4u-4 - has some errors also( being a f4u-1a base kit)
  10. I would respectfully diagree: as its odd not to incude the weapon system the complex is built around! (tomcat without phoenix, EE lightening without Firestreak etc) even notorious hasegawa includes these in their kits of the subject! no need to go lavish: 2xR-23(4), 2x r-60, centre fueltank - and you got the standard interceptor loadout as pretty much every other manufacturer of a Mig-23 kit has included I asume in good faith Clearprop intended to incude weapons, and for whatever reason it diddnt work out (would be interesting to know) - but at the end of the day i suspect this will be a dealbreaker for many like myself. If a compeditor is in the wings with a more complete product: the price of a Clearprop kit + weapons set + shipping would need need to undercut an ICM price ( larger company with wider distribution network) which is really annoying more than anything else - as Clearprop (and ICM) both make lovely kits, and i wish them every success (the mig-23 market being so barren that it could be a profitable venture for both!)
  11. Wiskey tango foxtrot?! Seperate weapons set/cant be bothered/collaboration with local business res/kit? Decent r-23s arnt easy (or cheap) to come by (nice ones being made by the latter)
  12. well the delelopment of the J-6 took an aweful long time in the PRC, and the never really got the radar ones down pat.....so art imitates life? or maybe its just cursed!
  13. Id be in with a tempest Will i actually finish a gb this year.... Or even a model... . 'no comment'
  14. Aside from the riviting, did the 109 molds feature any other problems over time, loss of fit, warping etc? (wondering hooooow crazy to go on first releases ) Eg if u got an initial revell p-47m it was tamiya-like... Now it has tons of flash, poor fit....flash on the lip intake being so bad it became 3mm solid and u have to cut away now
  15. Eduard staff hard at work on profipack edition of project Tora Tora Tora. *Brassin Martin Balsam TBC
  16. My reaction "Wierd, Special hobby must be getting bored, dabbling in fictional aircraft.......wait, it was real?!...... prototype..1939!! WUTTT!!!!!"
  17. a fine day here, so I got some of the base colours down on the wheel wells and the cockpit. Despite going though threads on the forums, Im not particularly closer to figuring out of the aifix instructions of 'brick red' are accurate for the headreast area! at the moment its green....i used tamiya ts-17 alminium for the cockpit and As-12 for the wheel bay ( as i ran out of TS-17!) its far shinier in the photos than in real life (looks almost like crome in the pics!!! )
  18. good to know, Mk.I then interesting regarding the prop and CoG issue Thanks for the information, photos and album links! a good find with the armour plate protusion - ( ive seen the term 'doghouse' but never understood why?) based on everyones feedback im going without armour it must of been somewhat nerverwracking flying without armor plate! wonder how it affected the CoG/handling when fitted... started work today: fitted the fuselauge light with obligatory tinfoil, and begun looking at wheels.....I really dont want to order aftermarket if I can avoid it, but all the 5 spoke wheels i have are from spitfires and are smaller tyre diameter and larger spoke size....trying to think of what other 1/72 british kits i could 'liberate' some from started reading threads on BM about cockpit colours....oh boy......
  19. Hiya! I've been been enjoying reading about the east african campaign from: - 'The First Victory'(good overall acount) - 'Air War in East Africa 1940 - 41'(a good summary of sqn diaries, but a very dry read) Ive decided I would have a go at modeling '277' using the Airfix 1/72 Hurricane Mk.+Xtradecal SAAF pt.1 decal sheet: I have a feq questions regarding the SAAF Mk.I 'ragwings' posted to Kenya that im hoping someone can help with these two photos look like they might be for 277 'Q': - it appears they have the latter exhausts of the Mk.Ia - it looks likes like armour plate wassn't fitted? onto the model! Starting with the wing I filled the horrible ejector pin marks in the wheel and attached the upper spar: Now the upper wing has a pretty good dihedral, where as the bottom wing one side sits higher ( atleast in my example). To rectify this i placed slower curing super glue behind the lower wheel bays and clamped to the upper wings. now the lower wing fits nicely into the upper, with the correct dihedral.
  20. Wonder if they will have the parts for a Mig-23MLG(23-57) This example has no shortage of markings!
