  1. Saw the spitfire rebox instore today...with a noticeably bad boxart: it seems they printed the boxing from a compressed image, as it has artifacts typical of image compression : url=https://raymondbiggs.smugmug.com/Swatches/i-H86qLDH/A][/url
  2. hiya! been awhile since I updated this! - after the base coat I thought id have a go at weathering with oils, first to break up the base colour a bit: then after further blending, i worked on weathering the exhausts and gun barrels - still not entirely happy with the exhaust weathering, so after it dries i might try another layer on the underside. I wanted a well worn look for a post-bay of pigs aircraft that had seen a lot of action:
  3. Hi Folks! taking a break from my p-47 kit I decided to have a bit of fun and have a go at modifying the 1/2500 AMT enterprise C kit. Not sure what ship this will be yet, but I have the JT Graphics sheet:
  4. hiya had a break from kitbashing seafires (pending re release by Sword), and been working on a kit from the boneyard: an Academy F-47D in cuban AF markings :-) just got the main painting done, canopy, wheel-wells etc will need. some work. i had a spare engine and cowl from a hasegawa kit that I used: Hollowing out the gun barrels was well worth it! the montex masks worked well though i will probably repaint with bush to get nice sharp edges from the aztec latin jugs sheet:
  5. Hiya, yea im thinking te ventura/jays kit will be the way to go; quite a bit of reshaping from a lowback spit xvi to a seafire!! Got the fuselauge together on the 45, though gotta use some dullcoat on the wing beneath the cockpit as 8s shining through!
  6. Cheers guys! Yea i went with the trailing edge, was very very noticeably short if aligned to the leading edge! Two sword xvis turned up today! Looking forward to planning how to convert to Xvìi! :-)
  7. Playing round a bit with filters to try and bring out detail, im fairy convinced this is just something propping up the airframe
  8. Trying to figure out the thai spitfire RM873/747 - from the earliest photos on vintage wings canada it seems to be a C? wing, though I can't tell if they are clipped or jsut colapsed the 50.cal ports are intriguing - i heard kiwi spits had c wing with 50s...is also possible they just put em on for show
  9. Hiya! Cheers ! Yea I've used some plastic card to close the gap and align
  10. HI folks! small update: after a lot of puttying/sanding decided It would save a lot of time and swearing to use a sword XVIe and reshape the nose (as the short griffon is just slightly shorter than the merlin and easier to get the shape) sword/hase fuselage: sword seafire XV/ spitfire IX for the seafire 45, i'm glad i decided to go with the Airfix xix fuselage - looks quite different, and very sleek! - managed to use the instrument panel and cockpit floor from the build:
  11. Cheers ☺ yea i decided to go with the airfix fuselauge!
  12. Hiya Thanks for info on the academy offering! Yea, its a bit of a toss up: Was really after a seafire 17, the 45 came as a bit of an afterthought, while I do like the look of the 45, I guess Ive to choose between: - Admiral kit $35-40nzd - airfix xix intended for thai markings (or$25nzd w pp) - making the academy kit look as least offensive $free I could either continue with the 45 as is, use the airfix xiz fuselaug, and build a thai xiv with all ofthe academy kit....mmm decisions!!
  13. begun working on correcting the profile of the tailsection:
  14. ... and doesn't like being photographed; camo for a seafire I or II with tamiya rattle cans
  15. canopies arrived today :-) so looking at improving the look of the academy fuselauge - if aligning with a sword XV the curvature of the top part can be made to work if the underside is reduced in depth.... did the seafire have a wider tale than the XV? if not I can cut away the academy tail and shape to get rid of the plump look im thinking...
  16. Hiya Very nice!! Yea that was a toss up: i had the academy fuselauge on hand - i had ordered a airfix 19 but that hassnt shown up yet! I can replace the tailplanes, and will compare fuselauges to see how we can proceed
  17. a few updates: for the Seafire 17 I've attached and puttied the engine and added 'glass' dials to the cockpit: decided to use the wing left over from the Spitfire mk.22 and mate it to an academy fuselage to create a seafire mk.45 - really like the lines of this one, has a real feeling of speed! begun construction of the tail: still need to refine the shape:
  18. hiya, some basic work on the cockpit (since it may be enclosed i havent gone all out!) *been trying to work out if the wing is looking right....separate wingtips are a nightmare to align! (it looks like its drooping a bit to the right.. ill have to matethe fuselauge and wings VERY carefully!! - but the wing 'gull'? Leading shape is ok?! - I always thought It just referred to the rear undersides of the wing??
  19. Following hornbys performance has almost become a hobby in itself! http://www.londonstockexchange.com/exchange/prices-and-markets/stocks/summary/company-summary/GB00B01CZ652GBGBXAMSM.html Some modest growth for the month, but compared to the share price 5 years ago.... Oh to browse through their portfolios!...
  20. Yea theres something very theraputic about kitbashing spits :-) tempted to do a mk.45 with the spit 22 wings and academy xiv fuselauge
  21. With a squadron vac canopy, sharp knife and alot of swearing
  22. Cheers! thanks for that info! - spits are still a pretty new thing for me! :-) yea I went with the sword kit as a comparison :-) will need some tidying up but is looking better, ill have to fill and rescribe the firewall
