Maybe its not as big and loud as the ones mentioned here, but the Piper Super Cub is definitely the plane for me. The bigger tyres, the better!

I bought exactly the same set as you linked in your first post. 3 years later both the brush and compressor are running fine. The noise of the compressor makes conversing with someone across a room hard if its right beside you, but I wouldn't call it "loud". Note that it doesn't have a pressure dial on it, just a "mode" button that shifts it between 3 levels of slightly louder or quieter. I've had no issues at all with the brush. It doesn't do incredibly fine detail but ot puts down smooth layers, which is all I've ever needed of it (I tried luftwaffe mottling once and that was a no-go). Its easy to disassemble and clean. Just take good care of it as it probably won't have the durability of a big brand. In short, it may not do everything, or be a precision piece of fine art equipment, but it works as a system.

If you've used an airbrush before and know its what you want, the advice above stands. If you're new to it though, getting a cheapy set might be a good way to decide if you like it. I bought my no-brand airbrush and tiny compressor 3 years ago for about $80 Australian, and I'm still using both. Sure they're not perfect, but I'm no expert so they do the job fine for me. Neither has broken yet!

Airfix 1/72 Hurricane starter set. Build time: 6 hours 40 minutes. And here with everything used to build it:

The pots ended up alright in the end Here it is fully painted and almost assembled. I added some black weathering powder stains for the exhaust and guns, then some light grey to bring out the texture. And then all it needed was decals and it was done! 6 hours and 40 minutes with a dinner break in the middle. Not bad Better photos will be in the gallery shortly. Beggsy out.

I may not have most of my tools and paints available at the moment, bit I didn't want to miss the fun so here I go with this! I'll only be using the included paints, as well as some Tamiya extra-thin glue, some putty, a sanding stick, a dark-brown weathering wash and possibly some Tamiya weathering pastels if I remembered to pack them. Starting at 3:38PM Seattle time First go with the paints. Not too bad! It all comes together quickly when you can't really super detail the interior. Some gaps were just too big to ignore. 2 hours in and taking a break for some putty to dry. Should be able to knock this one off fairly quickly I hope.

Gorgeous build! I did an I-16 in the last blitzbuild but took the lazy option of all-over greeen. Yours looks stunning by any standards.

Call me crazy, but I'm going to enter despite having just moved halfway around the world without bringing my modelling supplies! I'll be taking the super hero option with an Airfix starter set of the Hurricane and just some sandpaper and a knife added. Should be fun!

I know I said I was done..... But this morning, I woke up, and I saw the model, and I just wasn't happy with that star. Then I realised....I still had an hour and a half before my 24 were up! So I carefully applied some masking tape to a corner of the star, and had at it with the Olive Green. I then masked the next corner (hoping that Tamiya's paint would stick to the model better than the tape) and repeated around all 5 corners on each side. It worked!!!!! So now, for real this time, I am done. Enjoy the rest of your builds everyone, and thanks for all the kind words!

A late-breaking decal emergency has required me to replace the fuselage stars with the only ones I had in the spares box Oh well. One more coat of varnish over the new ones and this thing's done!

Waiting for the panel line wash to dry enough to be removable now. Next up it's decals, then some weathering, a semi-gloss coat, the landing gear wires and finally the canopy.

The current state of play: Yes, those side panels are removable! Unfortunately I'll be spraying the green again, as there's some clear overspray from doing the aluminium ring around the cowling

Ducked out for a couple of hours, but now I'm back at it. Here's the fuselage mostly together. The little pieces that make up the cowling/inboard end of the wing leading edge were a pain to get in, but with enough wrestling eventually made it into place. It's also time for lunch! Thanks to @emily for making a run to the bakery.

Yep, cherries. Having a french bakery only a block away from home is dangerous! Progress has been made on the cockpit/centre section and the engine. A little more complicated to put together than I expected, but lots of fun. Not sure if I'll be able to keep the panels around it removable or not, but hoping to!
