1/144 VietJet Airbus A320
Challenger350Pilot replied to zebra's topic in Ready for Inspection - Aircraft
Very nice build, Julian. A very “different” livery on a beautiful bird. Well done. -
Hi Ian; As usual...just FANTASTIC work. A beautiful build of a beautiful bird. Love the detail, too. The weathering is really really good, too. I’m not huge on weathering because it’s so often applied way too heavily. Not here. She looks almost real! As always, love the presentation, too. The runway/taxiway base you use for the pics are just right. Thanks so much for sharing this. Really inspiring. Like Dave, I’d like to know where to cut and how much, to transform that beautiful kit into a -400.

L-1049 Connie - where are they?
Challenger350Pilot replied to Codger's topic in Classic - up to 1968
I’m wondering...with doubt...if anyone truly knows “why” there isn’t a quality tooled larger scale than 1/72 for the beautiful Connie. Certainly would be welcomed. And I have to agree with the statement above, regarding “if a 1/32 scale B-17 could be tooled, then so could a Connie.” I’d buy one! Meanwhile...take a look here..... Paul -
paul, i think my next WIP here will be something more popular, i can clearly see that people are not so much into Airbuses of shabby turkish operators Apart from a 757 demonstrator on the bench, i thought of an aero america 720, Delta DC9, ValuJet DC9, Air Austral 787, Etihad 773, Air Canada DC9 - suggestions? Haha! Always remember...build for yourself...people like what they like; what’s most important is YOUR standard, which is very high, inspiring, and indicative of a master. Build away...Airbusses or whatever you like. We are ALL learning from your exquisite work. As for a suggestion as to what’s next...how about an older Delta DC-9?? A classic and beautiful airplane in a very classy livery. I have an Authentic Airliners DC-9-30 in my stash being saved for the sideways positioned Delta widget from the late 60s. Paul

🇺🇸 United Airbus A320-232 in 1/144
Challenger350Pilot replied to Scotsman07's topic in Ready for Inspection - Aircraft
Hi Alistair; Quite nice work, as one has come to expect from your workbench! Really like this Airbus kit from Zvezda...they got it right! But more importantly...so did you! The display base is really impressive, too. The work you’ve done to make the bases so realistic is eye catching in just the correct way...enhancing the model, not dominating the photos. Thanks for sharing! Nice work indeed! Paul -

Most excellent build! Really love the work you’ve done. I followed your build of the 763 on Instagram and enjoyed watching the Se photos are really nice, too. Very nice work On the weathering...not too much and not too little...just right to make her look as if she is well utilized between cleanings. Outstanding work on the details, too. Like Dave, I would recommend the Authentic Airliners windows that add Great realism to the model. Not a complaint, because your work here is very very good...just a suggestion that might be eye catching and that you might like. Thanks for sharing here...quite good! Wow. -
Hi Ian! Wow! I am so thankful that someone “dug this up” from two years before I was a member here. This is absolutely one of the finest builds I’ve seen of yours! Absolutely love this one. Most particularly the Attention to tiny details that really matter, in the days just prior to having the availability of ready built ones. The Britannia is such a beautiful airplane...and you’ve done her a great justice here. I can certainly appreciate the shiny decals, too...they provide for exact realism In the detail where it counts. Hope the hair dryer was selected ”cold” while you were photographing! Most excellent pictures, too!

Hi Sini! These are going to be great...as usual. Looking forward to following this master class. How are you producing the cockpit panels in miniature? I remember seeing the panel for the MD-11 and now I’m seeing them for the A320s. Do you simply reduce photos of the real glass cockpit? This would be a useful and challenging new detail to add...especially with the use of your amazing cockpit caps. Cheers! Paul

Beautiful work, Chris...nice model of a beautiful airplane! -
A GREAT video! Very informative and quite useful! Thank you, Sini! On my workbench now are an Air fix Boeing 727-100, to be completed in the Northwest Airlines 1964 first livery, and a Minicraft Boeing 727-200, to be completed in the later Northwest Orient livery...both will have NAV lights, thanks to your video, Sini....much appreciated! School never stops!

Thanks, Sini! I really appreciate that. Not quite the masterclass that you present...and I have learned quite a bit from watching your posts! Looking for more...soon!!! -

Challenger350Pilot replied to mitchem's topic in Ready for Inspection - Aircraft
Hi Mike! Absolutely beautiful! Love this kit! You have presented her quite well. I have to agree that messing up the painting of cockpit windows moving to use the photo real ones was a master move! I would love to have one of these kits, and you're inspiring me to procure one. I can imagine that the parts are quite small in 1/144, but hopefully, as you say, enough detail to keep me sharp and make the build worthwhile. Very very nice touch to add the VC-10 in the mix...she's gorgeous too! Thank for sharing.... -
Hi Dave! Really good to see you back...and most importantly...in good health. From the looks of these beauties, your eyes are absolutely spot on!! Really love the 111. Most of the time, they don't catch the eye; but you have done a cracking job on this one...and it catches and HOLDS my eye! Really love the detail around the nose...and the cable antennae are quite a nice addition as well. I have but one complaint...the pictures seem to have been made in the shade, or possibly an overcast day. The sunlight would have made these builds so bright and even more beautiful! The display of the three Airfix kits is a very nice touch, too. Thank for sharing!

Challenger350Pilot replied to RCI's topic in Ready for Inspection - Aircraft
Hi Sini! Stunning job! Really fine finish. I, too, followed the WIP and we have corresponded much throughout your build; with such a masterclass I am not suprised this one turned out so well. Love the pictures, too...even hurried, they are quite nice and bode well for a fine finish. Paul -
Across the Pond in a Triple Seven
Challenger350Pilot replied to cathasatail's topic in Ready for Inspection - Aircraft
Hi Sam! Well this beauty gets a WOW!! Has to be one of the finer 777s I’ve seen posted anywhere. How on earth did I miss the WIP??? Dave says it so accurately, that your WIP is indeed a masterclass. Loved perusing through, reading the story, and studying your techniques for completing such a beautiful build. Thank you for sharing. I have a Revell and Zvezda 777-300 in my stash, wanting to reserve one of them for an American Airlines livery. I am most certain that I’ll return to your example to lead me through the process. WOW!! -
Looking really nice, Hayden. Coming along beautifully...looks like you can almost see the finish line! I am really enjoying not just your descriptions and accounts of your experience thus far, but the issues your facing and working through. That is what makes for a nice class on making models better and better. To answer a couple of early questions...the Tamiya Surface Primer is indeed NOT Boeing Gray. If are looking to find a pre mixed version, then I would highly recommend this: http://www.hobbyworld-usa.com/Store/index.php?id_product=8261&controller=product Keep in mind that this is flat, and prepared for application with an airbrush. But it is spot on. You also asked about touch up for the Tamiya Surface Primer...just use more primer, and then lightly sand away the rough edges. You can even wet sand and fine sand the primer to a shiny beautiful finish, which would be necessary if you were desiring a natural metal finish. I use this stuff exclusively, and it ALWAYS gives a great result. The Tamiya TS-26 is the go-to for bright white enamel that will NEVER yellow. And I use nearly if not all of a can most of the time on most of my white models, and sometimes more. So far so good! Watching your build for the finish! Thanks for sharing!

Revell 1/144 Embraer 190 Lufthansa New Livery
Challenger350Pilot replied to Berko's topic in Ready for Inspection - Aircraft
Hi Berk! Very nice work indeed. I really like this model; the detail seems to be quite good, and the decals are top notch. I am certain no one would have known of the issues you faced before the final posting. Never heard of using oven cleaner to remove paint. If I had not seen your post, I would have thought that oven cleaner would be way too harsh for model/styrene plastic use. I've always used lacquer thinner soaked into a course cotton cloth and pressure to remove paint, with no dripping, and good control on where it is applied. I am with you...I don't really like the "new" Lufthansa livery...I think it is too sterile. However, it does present pretty well, especially on the E190 and on this kit in particular with the details applied. And it took only 2 months to build? WOW!! If I could finish a model in two months, I would throw a party!! Nice work! Thank you for sharing. -
Boeing 747-100 50th Anniversary, Revell 1:144
Challenger350Pilot replied to neilg's topic in Ready for Inspection - Aircraft
Nice build, Neil. Looks really really good. Looks as if you have captured the old bird quite well, in spite of the struggles and misfits of this newly presented, yet old mold. I remember building one of these when I was a youngster, many years ago, when they first came out. I remember the engines were a bit strange in their assembly, but nothing that couldn't be surmounted with some patience, putty, and sanding. Looks like you've done quite well indeed!I have one of these in my stash, an original with the old TWA "Globe" livery...bought it for $20 at an airline collectibles show a couple years ago. Mine will someday be finished in the first Delta Airlines delivery. Thanks for sharing. -
American Airlines B777-300ER
Challenger350Pilot replied to Challenger350Pilot's topic in Modern - 1969 and onwards
Thanks for the replies. I suppose one could wish...or build a "what if" model of the 777-300ER in the early natural metal finish. And I would agree...she IS a great looking jet! Paul
