  1. A nice pair of mustangs. I have wanted to build a SAAF Korean Mustang for a while, and was wondering where to get the Springbok roundels (spell?) from. I have ordered the Xtradecal set now 🙂
  2. Apologies for dragging the thread slightly off topic, but fortunately Kenley is not quite as lost as you might believe. It is still used as a glider airfield by the civilian Surrey Hills Gliding Club, and soon one of the consolidated ATC units will be restarted here. While a lot of the buildings have gone, the BoB figther pens have recently been restored and preserved (along with other parts such as the old rifle range). A volunteer archeological dig a week or so ago uncovered the foundations of some smaller buildings on the airfield and a anti-aircraft mount point. There is also a oral history project interviewing people who where connected to Kenley during the BoB - transcripts and recordings on the web site (see below). There was a Lottery funded project to do all the restoration and preservation work including new signage about the history of the airfield. There is a housing estate built on the site of some of the old buildings, but at least all the new roads are named after the former pilots. Recent news from Kenley is there is planning permission to put a fence around the perimeter of the active part of the airfield to stop people wandering across the area, and for a new ATC HQ on the site of the existing building. The fence has been pretty controversial locally. Well worth a visit if you are down this way - http://www.kenleyrevival.org/
  3. Found some reviews now I have the original company name: http://www.starshipmodeler.com/real/jl_sput.htm A comparison of the different kits (or why did NewWare build a full resin kit) is here: http://mek.kosmo.cz/newware/faq r7 c.htm thanks all anthony
  4. Thanks Alexey - I will take a look at the Newware site. anthony
  5. I picked up a copy of the 1/144 Parc Models Sputnik kit this week Not opened the wrapping yet, but the moulding looks good, not sure about the fit and accuracy yet. Anyone built this yet? thanks anthony
  6. I will watch this with interest. I saw the AeroSuperBatics display team (The Brietling Wing Walkers) at Farnborough this weekend. They use the Stearman with a bigger engine and other mods (cowling over the engine, covers on the wheels - and plastic skin rather than doped canvas). anthony
  7. Testing picture insertion - attempting to use Google Photo but not looking good so far. https://photos.app.goo.gl/q4sHmGfjnUaExT1y6
  8. That's a really useful reply - thanks for all the details! Glad things are working out better now. anthony
  9. Hi KeIT Apologies if am duplicating advice already offered. I am intrigued with your bubbles problem. How do you mix the paint before you apply it? The advice I have seem is to roll the bottles rather than shake? That will not fix the problem of bubble being added when you add water (which might be a chemical reaction with whatever is in your source of water, and I see you now have distilled water). The lifting of paint is common for Vallejo, but putting the paint of a good coat of primer normally helps and making sure if is really dry before applying another coat. Cotton gloves help with handling too. regards anthony
  10. Not heard of the series till I saw this post - just watched the first few episodes. Really enjoying it - thanks! anthony
  11. Will be watching this with interest. Did you know there is a reconstruction of this ship in London (Southwark). See http://goldenhinde.co.uk/
  12. This looks like a lot of fun. Can't wait to see the whole thing primed in black. Excellent use of a computer docking station btw.
  13. Great story that is quite a way from the original (or the Matt Le Blanc remake) - I enjoyed it
  14. I saw this tip years ago - use a tall jar with a plastic lid. Drill out the middle of the lid and use some thin foam wrapped in circles and place in the lid. Insert the brushes from underneath so you don't mess up the bristles. If you pack the foam tight enough it keeps the dust out and holds the brushes firmly. Good for longer term storage, but probably a bit of a pain if you are using the brushes a lot. anthony
  15. Good find - I found it here: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Salyut-True-Story-Soviet-Apollo/dp/B0797NG7KP/ref=sr_1_2?s=instant-video&ie=UTF8&qid=1518079812&sr=1-2&keywords=salyut+7
  16. Watched the whole thing from launch to touchdown. A real pity the main core missed the landing ship, but the landing of the booster was pure Thunderbirds! I see from the news today that the car "missed" the Mars orbit and is now going out a bit further. Now - who makes models of the SpaceX rockets?
  17. I am working in quite a dusty environment, and find it very hard to keep dust off models while the paint dries. I also find there are often bits of dust that stick to the plastic, in spite of washing and rinsing plastic before any sort of painting. My current method is to put a plastic tuperware-type box over the top of the model, leaving gaps at the bottom to get some airflow. I would be very interested in any ideas or advice on how to do this better. many thanks anthony
  18. Very entertaining and informative watching you build the figure. I am definitely taking notes as you go along. anthony
  19. First time I have bought a book because of someone's excellent model. Just got my copy of Dancing on Ice and looking forward to reading it. Thanks for sharing model and your book recommendation.
  20. No - not seen the Lindberg kit - sounds like I should be grateful :-) I have seen some excellent builds of the Academy kit, but with my skills - I prefer to start with a better base (which I am sure the Airfix one will be)
  21. Excellent news about the Hunter. So glad I skipped the Academy kit.
  22. Very impressive model! What sort of printing was used (for example - the feedstock diameter - if that is the correct term), and it sounds like you had to do a lot to clean up the printed parts. thanks anthony
  23. I have just read through the entire thread (not sure how I missed it before). What an excellent piece of work, and very good of you to add in all the details of what you did and the problems you solved. All incredibly useful and very inspiring! Thank you!
