  1. Very impressive lighting (and everything else) - where did you get the fibre?
  2. Just found this thread - really nice build and quite inspiring. The links back to the pictures of the studio models are extremely useful too. anthony
  3. I do vaguely remember the hi-tech range but don't think I ever owned one of those kits. Good catch. anthony
  4. What is nice is the catalog calls out the new tooling versions vs reissued versions. Interesting to see the move to photoetch on some kits too - is that a first for Airfix? The Tuccano and Chipmunk are on my list... anthony
  5. Impressive pyramid. I was thinking of posting our efforts in the school project area - Table Mountain (Cape Town). The one model I had to have finished :-) anthony
  6. Impressive build. I re-read the last few entries and saw your comment about spraying the canopy black first so it looks black on the inside (and I assume it will be gray outside) - excellent idea - never occurred to me to do that. Learn something new (and useful) just about every time I read this forum. anthony
  7. Hi Just checked HLJ and they have it on pre-order http://www.hlj.com/product/DRA11014 I am surprised how many "real space" Dragon kits there are. Are these new moulds, or repops from other manufacturers? regards anthony
  8. Hi Hoddo Welcome to BM. You will learn a lot here (I have - just reading through all the work-in-progress stuff, let alone the rest of the site). re: paint before or after removing from the sprue. If you have very small parts, it does help to leave them on and get paint on - at least an undercoat. Much easier than trying to secure a tiny piece of plastic on a stick or something. The bigger parts, and ones with a lot of mould lines, are better cut off and cleaned up before painting as you only have to repaint or touch up later. If you do remove a part, I suggest you write the part number on a surface that will not be visible when the model is complete - just in case you need to know this later on. re: paint match - that could be "fun". If you can find a standard reference number for the paint - you can usually buy paint to match. There are often lots of discussions on paint colour, but more so for older planes. Normally a knowledgable person on BM will be able to tell you what colour you need. What do the instructions say - normally a good starting point (but not always right). Can't help on the references question regards anthony
  9. Now the "plug" is a really good idea. I was not sure what you were trying to do at first until you have the photos of the "sliced" plug. Watching with interest - and picking up some great ideas. anthony
  10. I admire the work going in to this build already! Did anyone see the new Revell original Enterprise at SMW? New mould apparently - and very smooth (no raised or engraved panel lines) anthony
  11. Very impressive - the cockpit does look very good with the decal screens.
  12. Video works. Missed your reply so only just seen the video. Looks very impressive - are the blades catching at all? anthony
  13. Hi Mark This sounds like a really neat idea - did you try it? Blade clashes or takeoff? anthony
  14. Very nice build. I am currently collecting kits for some SAAF builds too - so following all the comments with interest. regards anthony
  15. What a great idea - and well executed. Watching this with great interest... anthony
  16. Nice build. [edit] and just realised this is the 1/72 kit! I like the SAAF Hawk picture too - do you have any more of them? regards anthony
  17. Some really good links and pics on this thread - thanks to everyone who posted. Managed to purchase this kit in the US and will find this thread very useful once I get around to building mine. anthony
  18. Just found this thread - your work is an inspiration. Thanks for taking the time and trouble to explain what you did - really useful to see the techniques you used, and given me some ideas for adding to my own feeble attempts at building out-of-the-box kits. anthony
  19. This has been a fascinating thread. What it did encourage me to do was go and try and find a copy of the mag to see what all the fuss is about. Didn't find it at my local Tesco, or various newsagents - but will keep trying. anthony
  20. This confused me too. I did the following and it seemed to work: Sign in as a club member on the airfix site. Then search for Hawk. The club kit should appear on the list of results. Then add this to your basket. Not sure about any other discount code that can be applied to the purchase, perhaps someone else can enlighten us. anthony
  21. Agreed - an excellent job on the Heller kit. I am very curious to see how this turns out. anthony
  22. This looks really nice - but if you are travelling - when do you put the models themselves??? Couldn't see a place to store models securely. anthony
  23. Keep an eye on Modelzone - they often have Revell sales and the 747 might come up (and I can see a few on eBay at the moment) anthony
  24. Go back and check - he has finished - it flys and I have no idea what those engines are, but they work! anthony
  25. We have this kit at home too - I have one of the Daleks half-built on my desk. Finding it very easy to build so far - but strange type of plastic (quite oily and not the normal material used in other regular Airfix kits). My 9-year old was very disappointed one of them did not say "Exterminate!". Thinking (or not) aloud, I wondered if the electronics are in the base or the "head". I suspect the head as there would be a circuit board to control the lights. I found the fit on the Caan (?) very good so far. I did try and build them in order from the top down - and was worried about the fit too. I used the previous section and the next section to check the fit, then used plasticweld on the inside to glue the seams. I then removed the part before it stuck to other sections. This seemed to keep the fit. Wondering about filling the seams at this stage - esp on the ribbed section below the head. (Or maybe I am taking this far too seriously :-) anthony
