  1. Hello all Apologies for not posting on Sunday, as I had a bit of a problem with my model. This is a forum where we not only share what we have done well, but what we have done badly as our common aim is to improve. Yesterday, the construction went excellently but when I got to painting the tail in Lufthansa Blue, I used too much thinner and the blue paint went all over the rear section of the plane. Today, I finished construction of the plane and I am moving onto the painting. The painting went well, but the blue paint problem was solved by me blotting the affected area with white paint. Despite my best efforts, most of it has gone but some blue splash marks remain on the horizontal stabilisers, which I will fix before putting onto the plane, hence they aren't in any of the photos below. Apart from that, I think it went very nicely for a new modeller, although there are things I could have done to improve. I have nearly finished the painting, but just need to do one final coat of the fuselage in white, and I need to fix the horizontal stablisers before I can move to the decals. I will be posting tomorrow, and any feedback and advice is appreciated as I am always trying to get better BetaSingh
  2. Hello All Today, I started construction of my model. First, I painted the fuselage gloss white, before painting and glueing the cockpit together. Then I glued the cockpit to the fuselage shell, before putting the APU in the back of the plane, before making the stand and assembling the two fuselage shells. With the right equipment, it was rather simple, even the attachment of the two fuselage shells. Stay tuned tomorrow for another update.
  3. I have now primed the model with Humbrol Acrylic Varnish, as primer was out of stock. I will start the proper painting and construction of the model on Saturday, and it was really very easy. http://imgur.com/jAdAXj8
  4. Hello all and welcome to this Work In Progress This is going to be the Work In Porgress where I (a new modeller) attempt to build a Revell Stage 5 model plane to the best of my abilities. Don't expect this to be perfect because as I said before, I'm new to aircraft modelling, so it isn't. I would be very grateful for any tips and helpful advice that you guys give me over the course of this, as I strive to get better at building planes. The actual construction of the model plane is going to start next Saturday and carry on through the Easter break, for 2 weeks, but a few more experienced modellers said it was good practice to wash your parts, so I did, and I washed them with soapy water and a dash of vinegar and left them to dry. Underneath is a photo of all the parts left in the beautiful sunny weather that I in the UK have been having. Thank You All BetaSingh http://
  5. Thank You All Today I went to Hobbycraft, and after much deliberation, I decided to take the more expensive option and buy the Humbrol Spray Varnish Primer, at a cost of £5. I have to thank you guys so much for all your information, which helped me learn so much and change my common misconceptions. So once again, thank you very much. I hope to start building the Lufthansa Boeing 747-8 by Revell in the Easter Holiday (1st April - 14th April). Again, I thank you all profusely BetaSingh
  6. I see that everyone is leaning towards a spray can primer. But why? What are the advantages of a spray can primer, and what are the disadvantages of a brushed primer? As the spray can primer is more expensive, and I don't need the large quantity of primer that they supply me with, so in all honesty, I have not much clue why everyone likes Spray Can Primer so much, so if someone could explain that to me then that would be much appreciated. Thanks again guys BetaSingh
  7. I was thinking of getting the Revell Primer, and brushing it on, since I don't really have the equipment necessary to set up and spray my model with primer. One person said it was waste of money, but a video by the modelling channel Quick Kits showed me that I really did need primer, so I am still leaning towards a brushed primer. If possible, can someone tell me how I can apply the brushed primer best? And can I prime with Humbrol varnish? Thanks All BetaSingh
  8. But out of the two options, which would you guys choose for a white gloss painting
  9. Hello all, I am relatively new to modelling, and I am making my first properly big plane soon. I have heard that with acrylics, a primer is essential. I am wanting to buy a primer from Hobbycraft (A UK Hobby Store), and I was wondering if I should get the Revell Aqua Color Primer, which costs £4, or the Humbrol Matt Primer, which costs £1.60. I am painting with a Revell White Gloss, and I don't really know the difference between the two types of primer, so, for the model which I am making, a Revell 1/144 Lufthansa 747-8, do you guys think I should get the Revell or Humbrol Primer? All advice is greatly appreciated!
  10. Thank you so so much Jessica, that has really cleared up everything I was concerned about!
  11. Thank you all for replying, your advice has really helped me clear things up, but if possible, I would really, really appreciate if you could answer the few remaining questions I have. 1) Should I build the model, then paint, then add the decals? If not so, which order should I do it in? 2) Do I need to add multiple coats of paint for both enamel and acrylic, or can I just add one? If I should add more than one coat, how many coats do you guys think I should add? 3) Saying it has 172 pieces, and I only need to paint the undercarriage, tail, fuselage, wings and engines, how long (approximately) will the building take? 4) How long will Revell Contacta Liquid Glue take to dry? 5) Lastly, how long should I wait for the decals to set into the model before wiping of the excess solution. If anyone can answer any of these questions, I will be immensely grateful. Once again, I thank you all profusely.
  12. Thanks for replying but on the videos posted in the thread it says that primer can be avoided by washing the sprues well in soapy water. Is this the case, or do you have to use primer with acrylic paint, or do you have to do both.
  13. Thank you for replying and one thing, will I need to get enamel thinner to paint on my model, because I don't really understand the purpose of thinning enamel paints, so I don't get if the thinner is needed or not. Or is enamel thinner the primer?
  14. But is primer necessary, as Revells website say that you don't need it, and I'm just wondering if washing the sprues with soapy water would do instead?
  15. Thanks for replying One other thing, how do you use enamel paint, like can you not breathe the fumes and do you paint it straight out of the can?
  16. I am new to this forum and my first build (I am a complete beginner to building models) will be a Revell Boeing 747-8 Lufthansa aircraft. I have tried to use the internet to buy the equipment needed before building it in a few weeks but I am looking for some advice, like what equipment I will need, how long it generally takes you guys to build this plane, and if anyone has had experience building this aircraft, how it was and if there are any tips, tricks or advice. I am a complete novice so all answers will be greatly appreciated!
  17. Hello all who are reading this post. I am a novice modeller, who isn't that good at arts and crafts, but I have a passion for civil aviation. I come from Leeds, England, and I have heard good things about this forum and I have heard that members are very welcoming. I thank you all for letting me join this forum and I hope get some amazing advice on here!
