  1. First, I am sorry, but it was nail polish not varnish, I got them confused. And secondly, the way I am planning on using it is by first painting a couple of base layers of Ushabti Bone acrylic paint, which is used for figure painting, and then brushing on the nail polish. I am hoping that by doing it that way, the nail polish won't etch off any of the plastic. Please let me know what you think of this method. BetaSingh
  2. Jessica I am going to use Cellulose thinner from Wilkinson, like somebody else on this forum used when doing their Etihad, but unfortunately, I don't have a spare model to practise on, nor do I have the money to get myself a spare model, but do you think that using a base coat, then brush painting the nail polish will work? I also have some nail art brushes which I bought for finer details, and do you think that they will work with the nail polish. Regards BetaSingh
  3. I was thinking to mix the paint as Revell suggested, but then I saw another person at Britmodeller's work with using an Ushabti Bone base coat and then using NYC Mulberry Street Nail Polish to give it that pearlescent finish, and now I want to do that, but I don't have an airbrush to do it, so I'm wondering how it will all turn out if a paintbrush is used.
  4. Another method of painting the Etihad fuselage is to use NYC Mulberry Street nail varnish, but people are saying it is an airbrush only option. Why is it an airbrush only option, and why won't painting it with a normal paintbrush or even the supplied with the varnish paintbrush work?
  5. As far as I can see, there are a number of methods to paint the fuselage, I will list the ones I have found, and I would greatly appreciate you guys telling me which one is the best for a brush painter. 1) Follow Revell instructions of 75 percent white 20 percent orange and 5 percent aluminium 2) Use Halfords ford champagne gold 3) Use Humbrol 41 and a pearlescent overcoat 4) Using Hu 41 and a sand colour and then the overcoat 5) Use a base coat of Ushabti Bone then applying NYC Mulberry Street Nail varnish by paintbrush 6) Using just the NYC Mulberry Street paint and apply it with paintbrush 7) Same as 5 but using a hardware store paintmatcher to match the Mulberry street nail varnish 8) Using a paintmatcher to match the etihad colour 9) Any new ways of painting the fuselage colour very welcome
  6. Which is the easiest method of painting the fuselage. Should I follow revells method or is there a better and/or easier method of painting the fuselage?
  7. I am planning to make a Revell Etihad A320, but rather annoying, it says that I must mix three types of paint. I must mix 75% of White Gloss 04 with 20% of Orange Clear 730 and 5% of Aluminium Metallic. As I haven't mixed paint before, can someone tell me how to mix paints, preferably Revell paints, and how I am meant to get the exact percentages of paints. I am painting with revell paints and would greatly appreciate any advice.
  8. What would be the closest non paintbrush option? And would it be possible to go into a diy store and use their paint matching system to get the correct colour? If you don't know, the paint matching system is where a computer scans an object with the colour that you want to paint the thing in, then matches that colour.
  9. My friend, who is brand new to modelling, wants me to help him with an Airberlin model set, which includes the paints and the glues along with the kit. Apart from that, he has bought primer, masking tape, cutting mat and a craft knife. Will he need to buy anything else or not? And is there any advice you guys have for either of us and on making the kit, any tips and tricks will be very appreciated.
  10. I was looking through some Humbrol Paints, and I found 41 Ivory Gloss, which looks like a pretty close match to me. Because you guys probably have a better eye for detail than me, can you tell me how close this 41 Ivory Gloss is, as the Ford Champagne Gold suggested is quite large and expensive, so I was looking for a cheaper version and found this. Tell me if you think it works or not, and if not, what needs to be done to it to make it work. https://www.humbrol.com/us-en/shop/paints/41-ivory-gloss-14ml-enamel-paint.html
  11. Hello All I am planning on making an Etihad A320, but I don't want to mix 3 paints, as Revell suggest you to do, so does anyone know of any colours made by Humbrol or Tamiya which can match Etihad's new livery body colour. Paint numbers will be highly appreciated.
  12. Would you say that the Lufthansa Blue would work with the Aeroflot livery or not, as I am only looking to buy one paint max.
  13. What would you say would be the closest revell colours to the silver and the blue?
  14. After completing my first two models, I have quite a bit of spare paint left, including over half a pot of Silver Metallic and Lufthansa Blue, so I was looking for good model kits I could do without buying any new paint. I really liked the sound of a Zvezda Sukhoi Superjet in the Aeroflot livery, but wanted to ask you guys at BritModeller whether you think that the Silver Metallic and Lufthansa Blue Revell paints would be the right colour for the Aeroflot livery? Any other suggestions for models or paints welcome BetaSingh
  15. Hello all I have been watching a few modelling videos and found people using Liquid Masking Fluid. At first I thought it was amazing. A paintable masking fluid that does the same job as a masking tape but goes around curves? Excellent! But I do not know whether it is a worthwhile investment or not, as I don't know how it works or how to peel it off. So what I am basically asking is that anyone who has used any sort of liquid masking fluid can kindly answer any of these questions. 1) How do you use Liquid Masking Fluid, and how is it applied 2) What do you do if the masking fluid goes wrong, and how do you fix it 3) How do you peel off the masking fluid 4) How long does it take to dry, and what does it look like when dry 5) Is it a worthwhile purchase to make, and is it worth the money. All replies greatly appreciated BetaSingh
  16. What airline do you guys think the A320 and A321 Neo will be made available, or will Revell just make it Airbus House Colors.
  17. Keep up the great work! Looks amazing by the way, especially what you've done to that cargo area
  18. I would seriously consider the Boeing 787, but as I already have an A350 Snap Fit Model, I will probably look at the 787. Thanks by the way!
  19. Would you rather have an Etihad A320 by Revell or a Sukhoi Superjet Aeroflot by Zvezda, as the Etihad is the main Airbus short haul I'm considering and the SSJ is the main Zvezda model?
  20. I am looking to buy a commercial model plane kit to make sometime in June, and I am wondering what to get. I have already made a Lufthansa Boeing 747-8 and an Air Dolomiti Embraer 195, and am looking for a kit which isn't too expensive, doesn't need any aftermarket decals, and has a good livery, so as this is probably the best model forum, I am asking you guys for ideas.
  21. Thanks all, I will probably take a bit of a break from constructing model planes, as it is the end of the holidays and it's coming up to exam times and stuff. My next model will probably be after all my exams, in June, and will probably be a weekend build thing. Thank you all for your advice and support, and I have to say, BritModeller is probably the best modelling forum I have been to, so thanks guys, and keep up the good work
  22. Thanks for all the replies guys, I really appreciate it. I will try getting hold of that Modelling Airliners book if possible, as from Skodadriver's reply, I think it may be quite good for me. The window decals came clear, but my last model had them dark, so I just kept it clear, but I will look at painting the inside of the fuselage dark. Many of you are saying that I should go for the Zvezda and that is what I will probably do, but one thing? How expensive is airbrushing, like how expensive is the actual airbrush, and would it be worth it for a modeller who will only really do stuff in the half-terms, and term holidays? Thanks again BetaSingh
  23. I have just completed my second model in as many weeks, as over this Easter break, I'm trying to improve. There are a few things I could have done better, like the engines, but please feel free to give any feedback. Another thing, thanks for all your support and advice, and which would you guys choose: Italeri ATR 42/500 or Zvezda Sukhoi Superjet?
  24. I have finally completed my model plane, the Lufthansa Boeing 747-8, and it came out quite well. There are things that could have been done better, but I am rather proud of it. For all budding modellers who have never built models before, it is not impossible, it can be done, just some patience and motivation are what is needed. I have to thank everyone on this forum for helping me and giving me advice but especially Val so a shout out to you, Val! My next model will be an Air Dolomiti Embraer 195, so look out for that in the coming days. Thank you all Beta Singh http://imgur.com/a/X17Mv
