  1. They varied from tan to dark brown LIKE THIS I got the Alpine Miniatures tanker to plonk in my Sherman Firefly, British Tanker Hope this helps. Pete
  2. Memo to self - read thread properly before posting!
  3. Thanks Antoine - should have tried to pick one up when I was in Orleans.
  4. Got the Hobby Boss Mirage III recently, anyone know how it compares? Pete
  5. Good looking cat Martin. I've finally plucked up the courage to get the Milliput out & have made a start on mine. Just finished the turret, doing it a section at a time so it may take a while. It looks a bit thick so I might have to borrow the wife's rolling pin to thin the next lot out! Started on the Italeri Spitfire IX as a spot of light relief. Pete
  6. Nice looking King Tiger Geoff. I've got the Dragon Panther A on the go at the moment & I've not got the courage to get the Milliput out & apply the Zimmerit yet. It looks like they've got it right on that kit & a ruddy sight easier than Milliput. I agree with your comment on Dragon's instructions, they really are poxy. Pete
  7. That's a superb looking Hunter & well worth all the aggro. My FGA9 has just been primed & has shown up the fit issues with the wing tips (or it might just be my sausage fingers causing the problems) so out with the can of Humbrol silver for the undersides after another attack with the sanding stick & scriber. Sorry to be a nit picker but I think the rear edge of the canopy was glass, not framed. I had this pointed out to me as I did the same with my Academy 1/48 Hunter. (Buggritt!) Pete
  8. I thought I'd try a new approach to rusty exhausts on this kit. I put some nails in water & left them for ages & mixed the residue with some Mig resin & applied it on the exhaust. It looked rock all like rust - back to the drawing board!
  9. Anybody know the FS colour for camel turds?
  10. Superb job! Always difficult to get black to look right on a kit (which is why I've not tried it for ages!) but that is the mutts nuts.
  11. Dragon Sherman III, Verlinden figure with Hornet head & Blu-tak orthopaedic sole. I'm reasonably pleased with this but I don't think I should have sprayed the camo freehand, will mask it next time. Any comments welcome. Pete
  12. I read in this month's Military In Scale that Tamiya are re-boxing the Italeri kit with some added extras - stowage and figures. Italeri kits tend to be a more straightforward build & they also have the walk-round booklet included. A few companies (Resicast is one, I think) do a stowage accessory kit.
  13. That's the very eye Nelson lost at the Siege of Calvi in 1794!
  14. What else can you get at S & M supplies, just out of interest?
  15. You lucky *******! I went to Waddington on the Sunday & it went tech & was at Fairford (the land of the long grey cloud) from Thursday to Monday only for the show to be scrubbed over the weekend. At least we were treated to a fast taxi at Waddo but looks like I'll have to wait 'til next year to see it. Gutted of Manchester
  16. Yup, that's the one saving grace of my Bucc, that kit really is a hound. I noticed you're using brass on the airbrakes, I wish I'd done that instead of having them closed. Fewer joins to fill & sand.
  17. That's looking good - what cockpit set did you use? You might shame me into resurrecting mine.
  18. Cracking build. I like the crewman, I always find it difficult to do those German mottled camo colours, my Waffen SS figures never seem to look quite right.
  19. Spot on. I hope mine turns out half as good!
  20. You CAN polish a turd! Very nice indeed.
  21. I tried to replicate the "real thing" on a Tamiya KV1 a few years ago. As whitewash / distemper would have been applied in the field I used thinned poster paint airbrushed on, when it was dry I used an old toothbrush to wear the poster paint away - was quite pleased with the result. I might try this on my Dragon Panther A & will post the results.
  22. Thats a really nice build of a subject I've always fancied doing but never got round to. Hats off to your Great Grandfather.
  23. I used static grass, Mig pigments & soil from the garden, lovingly sieved, ground up & dried out in the oven on a baking tray (don't tell the wife!). Mixed the soil with Mig's resin & slopped it on. Someone told me they use cats whiskers as aerials on tanks & a/c, might be too small for 1/35 but we're always finding them round the house. Thanks for the comments
