  1. I want to decorate this as a Workbee; no cutting . . . maybe just add on a few parts, and new decals of course. Workbees were seen in STAR TREK TMP-era, but I will backdate my model to be from TOS-era.
  2. Hello. Allow me to introduce myself. I am Jim Botaitis. I am the owner/operator of JBOT DECALS. I always wanted to build a model of the PELICAN. To that end, I wrote to them about 15 years ago and asked for photographs. They sent me lots, and I drew all the art to make 3 or 4 different versions. An image of my art is attached. I can print a set for you in 1/48 scale if you want. Contact me and we can discuss this. Thank you!
  3. I made this drawing to show all the Haunebu at the same scale relative to each other.
  4. I updated all the previous links. They should be working again now. Here also is an image of my decal sheet for the Miles 52:
  5. Yes, I can print the art in 1/48th scale. If you want/need a set, let me know via my email - [email protected] - and we can arrange something.
  6. Here are some more photos: I make decals (JBOT DECALS, www.jbot.ca) so of course I had to make some for this build. The nose art commemorates the "fact" that the Miles.52 holds the world speed record. I also added the photo-registration marks all over the airplane, and navigation lights, and stencil data. I like the low, sleek look to this plane. This view shows the very slight dihedral to the wings and the annular intake around the cockpit. I glued the nose to a central column inside the fuselage to maintain the illusion of an unbroken intake. The pitot tube is from the spares box. I think it was for a HAWKER Hunter, originally. There were 3 sizes of "exhaust cans" in the kit. I chose the longest one and thinned the walls, then built a long exhaust tube. My understanding is that the engine was located in the forward part of the fuselage. Elegant lines of the Miles.52. Trying to look into the cockpit. I should have taken photos before I attached the canopy. I read that the designers knew the cockpit was going to be very small and cramped and that the test pilot would have to be short. Was it designed with Winkle Brown in mind, or was he chosen because of his stature? The landing gear and wheel wells were scratchbuilt. Perhaps I should have added some detail in the main wheel wells ... oh well. I should mention that the main wheel wells had to be re-positioned. Where the openings were originally molded in the resin resulted in a conflict with the position of the wings. The serial number is fictitious; I hope it does not conflict with any real planes. In general, I like to add detail to the cockpit, intake, exhaust, and wheel wells. I usually rebuild landing gear doors using thin sheet plastic and add lightening holes to an inner layer of thin sheet plastic. I have about 50 LUFT'46 models but doubt they would be appreciated here on a British airplane modeling site! There you have it. If you have any questions or comments, feel free to post them. I am eager to learn whatever I can.
  7. Wow, I had no idea my model would generate so much interest and conversation and information. I will take more photos to show you the details of my construction. Thanks, everyone.
  8. Kes, I bought the model from a friend who had it in his collection. It was in a bag, with an "instruction sheet" which was really little more than a 3-view drawing and an exploded diagram showing how the parts went together. One feature I do recall is that the model had three different tail cones (short, medium, and long) to simulate something considered on the real airplane ... or so the instruction sheet explained. However, there was no company name or other info anywhere on the sheet. I chose white to suggest a clean surface, on which technicians would be able to see any leaks, deformations, heat marks, etc. Before painting my model I searched the internet and found many other interpretations; blue, yellow, green, metal, etc. NASA painted the various X-planes white so I thought I would do the same. I know the X-1 was orange, which will contrast nicely sitting beside the M.52, the La-176 was all metal, and the Dassault Mystere II was all metal too. Those four planes were the first to break the speed of sound. I am not sure if a German entry is warranted; did the Me-163 or the Me-262 ever exceed the speed of sound?
  9. Sven! Thank you for that image. It is perfect. I can clearly see the crest, so now I can easily draw it. The crest I refer to on the LOAN tail is the one near the top, near the trailing edge. It looks like a black and yellow circle, just below the black band with the white Xs in it: Here is another crest I am trying to draw; the round one at the top of the tail: Does anyone have any better images of it?
  10. Ah, therein is the connection. So, maybe I will add a figure beside the plane, but in 1/72 scale, how can I make it look just like him?
  11. I dont know what a Winkle Brown is. Care to enlighten me?
  12. Here is a 1/72 model I finished recently. It was a bagged resin kit which I purchased from a friend. It had no decals and only a 3-view drawing. I made a new nose on a lathe because the kit provided a simple cone but the nose should be an ogive. I hollowed out the nose and added resin bits to make a new cockpit. I also made a new nose gear well and repositioned (lower and aft) the main gear wells. Finally, I made new landing gear and my own decals. The canopy is from some blister packaging which just happened to have the correct curvature, and a gold tint too. Enjoy.
  13. Hello everyone. I am Jim Botaitis. I operate JBOT DECALS (www.jbot.ca). I am new here; I just joined. I joined because I have been drawing art for some F-16s for a customer: Also: And: And: And: The last 2 are incomplete, which is why I am writing to all of you here and now. There are some crests and logos that I cannot figure out. When I was doing my searches on Google I found this forum, so I decided to join and ask for help here. Does anyone have good close-up photos of the crest on the tail of the F-16 LOAN and the F-16 AUTO TF?
