  1. Really nice work, the kind of thing you want to wander across on your hols! Great paintwork- very convincing
  2. Thanks for all the comments everyone, Happy New Year
  3. What a magnificent Wurger. Congrats Holzhamer. One to be proud of.
  4. Thanks Andy You do get a lot of bang for the buck with the Eduard kit. At some point I love to have a go at the Tamiya, or I could just buy another two or three Eduard weekend kits.
  5. Thanks Robert, Just looking at the instructions again, apparently he flew this machine in the same time frame as a regular camouflaged 109. This machine flew out of Bad Worishofen in December 1943.
  6. Thanks Volker. thats an interesting idea if anyone at Eduard is taking note.
  7. The Emily’s are lovely but somewhat trickier due to the multipart nose section. Awesome if you want to show off the DB engine but a fair bit off fettling otherwise to get it all buttoned up. That said, I’ve done 3 😉.
  8. Thanks FalkeEins, Interestingly seems to show white wingtips as well. I don’t intend to repaint it but if anyone knows definitively, I would be interested and in no way offended.
  9. Hey everyone The 1/48 Eduard Bf109G-5. So much fun it should be illegal! Built this one a while back. Just a joy of a kit to build. I love Tamiya kits as much as the next guy but with everything they throw in an Eduard Profipack 109 kit, I don’t feel the need to go elsewhere. I bevelled the panel join line on top and bottom of the fuselage, replaced the wing cannon and pitot with hollow aluminium tube and also the underfuselage aerial with a fresh acupuncture needle (ouch). I also flatted the tyres which on a 109 is particularly difficult to get the angle right! Colors are Mr Hobby and Tamiya. Hopefully the color variation comes out. Maybe should have gone heavier with it but I like subtle. I think this is a quite an eye catching scheme and the spinner decal is just amazing. I was pleased with how this came out. Feedback welcome. Thanks for looking. Rick
  10. Hey Volker, You’re right but I went with visually interesting. I can live with it.😀
  11. Thanks Nikola, if ever a kit needed to go to the top of your pile, it’s this one. You will enjoy it. I certainly intend to do more.
  12. Good evening everyone, This is Tamiya’s superb IL2. I had previously built Eduards kit and really enjoyed that, to the extent that I didn’t really see how it could be improved . However having heard good things about this particular kit, I decided to give it a go. What a blast. People have said that it’s a well engineered kit. No kidding. As ever, everything fell together, tolerances were precise and everything just clicked into place. Amendments to the kit included putting flat spots on the tyres, replacing the wing cannon and machine guns with hollow tube and aerial wire from Uschi. The paints are a mixture of Mr Hobby and Tamiya, with fine details picked out with Vallejo. There is some shading and chipping on. Tamiya supply a set of masks for the windows that you need to cut yourself. They worked really well and I was more than satisfied. They also provide a decal for the seat harness but I went with an Eduard belt for a more 3D look. Nothing beats Eduards buckles for setting of a cockpit. The decals were a mixture of out of the box and the remainder of the Cartograph sheet from the Eduard boxing. Fair to say that I was pleased with this. Thanks for looking. Rick
  13. By the way, Nice to see someone else using Mr Hobby as well. It’s been around for a while but still rocks IMHO.
  14. Both are superb. I’m going to try 305 on my next Wurger, I like the additional contrast. Did you actually use 317 for RLM76, or was it a typo for 417. I’m not picking fault, just admiring your work and if you used 317, I may well try that too.
  15. Thanks Matteo To be honest the aerial attachment is really weak on the 109 series. I was concerned that my Uschi thread wire would pull the aerial off when it was under tension. I’m going to get some epoxy for the canopy aerial then I will do it. Good spot though 👍🏻
  16. Thanks for the comments guys, for those with one in the stash, build and enjoy. For those without one, treat yourself, the 109 series are all amazing, whether profi or weekend kits.
  17. Evening, Here is my Eduard Bf109F4. I didn't fancy the schemes in the boxing I had so raided the spare decal box and made a JG27 machine as seen in the "Africa" combo boxing, complete with the attractive yellow nose. I could have gone with Marseille's machine, maybe next time! Gunze and Tamiya exterior with Vallejo interior details. There is a fair bit of tonal variation on the wings and fuselage as I lightened/darkened various panels to break up the monotone RLM79 finish. There is some restrained chipping with a silver pencil. Tyres flatted and pitot replaced with hollow tube. Everything hanging down. The spinner is held on with magnets. I found it centres more precisely that way and can be easily removed for transport to shows. Amazingly it even spins. A joy to build notwithstanding the cockpit is pretty busy and a bit of a tight fit here and there, especially the instrument panel. Keep em coming Eduard. Rick
  18. Thanks buddy. Don’t forget it’s much easier to do with a flat finish so that the paint picks up the colour. I prefer Gunze to Tamiya but tend to use Tamiya where I know I will be chipping as the slightly coarser grain of the XF range is better for this than the semi gloss Gunze colours. If the surface is too smooth, hit it with some flat varnish before you start. You can always seal the finish with semi gloss to restore the sheen after chipping.
  19. Thanks George, I intend to get another, probably a late. 👍🏻
