  1. Thanks Bangor Lad, that’s how I feel too. There is no denying the skill involved in extreme weathering, it’s just further than I personally want to go.
  2. That’s really really nice. There’s not much in it to my eye. Maybe someone will post a pic of the medium then we can compare that too.
  3. Thanks Pete. I like Tamiya’s semi gloss clear just to reduce the shine of the x22 gloss clear from the decal stage. I like a semi sheen rather than dead flat as to me it looks more realistic.
  4. It’s funny because I was thinking of going up a size myself. The fine really is......fine.
  5. Had to go and check. its the fine thread. Jeez I didn’t know you could go even finer! cheers
  6. As much as I look forward to building Tamiyas newer 1/48 Mk1 Spitfire, I would contend there’s not a heck of a lot wrong with the legacy kit. Here’s mine painted with a combination of Mr Hobby and Tamiya paints. Chipping courtesy of a really old Berol Silver pencil. I used Uschi fine thread for the aerial wires and threaded the elevator wire through the fuselage courtesy of a cut down acupuncture needle with the thread superglued to it, to guide it through. The cloth machine gun port covers are Tamiya tape painted with Vallejo. The tyres were flatted and the exhausts drilled out. Eduards mask set EX052 made short work of the canopy. I really enjoyed building this and would recommend it to anyone. Rick
  7. Sorry mate, made a mess of my response, see a slightly earlier post for my reply to you.
  8. Thanks Artie, really appreciate your comments. I’m not exactly sure which Mark of Martlet is closest to the Tamiya boxing. I wanted an FAA Martlet but without having to do tons of research or hack the thing apart. As much as anything she was an exercise in painting which I really enjoyed. She’s close enough for me though respect to those who do go the extra mile for complete accuracy.
  9. No problem, good luck with it. If it’s the Eduard kit, it’s awesome.
  10. All Tamiya on this one from my notes. Top colors are xf22 for the greeny grey and a 60:40 mix of xf24 and gloss black for the EDSG. There was nowhere near enough contract between the two Tamiya shades without the addition of the black to the EDSG. That may be historically wrong but I found it pleasing to my eye. Xf23 underneath for the blue and xf69 rubber black on the other wing as a nice scale black. Xf21 as ever for the Sky band. You can post shade panel lines with whatever dark gunk you have left over, just make it very very thin and lighten some areas with gloss white to the original shade. Again, a big note for myself to reduce the rivets under the decals for the next one. Hope this helps.

  12. Thanks for that. All airbrush as ever. I stick to Tamiya and mr hobby paints which are pretty awful to brushpaint, though some folks have managed it. I wanted a tight camo pattern so used tape for masks rather than blutac on thus one.
  13. Thanks for all the kind words. It’s great that a 40 something year old kit can still be appreciated in these days of the cost the earth uber kits.
  14. Very nice Pete. The shading is very well done and painting the decals is awesome work. The legacy Tamiya Spit is another gem of a kit.
  15. Pete, Thanks mate. I decided then and there to use the hottest decal solution I can find for the next one. no doubt I’ll probably melt the wing off!
  16. An oldie but goodie, Tamiyas 1/48 Wildcat finished as a Royal Navy Martlet from 804 Squadron based in the Orkneys. Apologies if there are some glaring differences between the two. Absolute gem of a kit and a lot of fun to build. The trickiest bit was getting the Aeromaster decals to snuggle down over the rivets. Stay safe. Rick
  17. I am a fan too. This is number 2 and I’m lucky enough to have the rare “heavily armed” version in the to do pile. I may have a pop at the single color post war French AF bird for that one and then throw everything at it. Regarding the randomness, some of the nicest effects I have achieved have been where I thought I totally ballsed something up with the wrong shade or whatever, then worked with it and finished with an effect that’s not half bad and catches the eye. Sometimes we need to work outside the box a bit. Just my two cents ( in familiar currency ).
  18. That’s a really good looking early model A4. Congrats, great job.
  19. Really impressive work. I have got to get me one or more of these!
  20. Thanks Nikola, I'm looking forward to taking my time and having a good look at both later. regards Rick
