This is my attempt at Airfix’s 1/72 Bucc. First 1/72 kit since puberty but I figured it’s as big as a WWII 1/48 fighter so why not.
Truly an excellent kit. W3ll done Airfix.

They both look great. Beautifully built. I like the colour schemes and weathering. The Zero was an elegant aeroplane.
Knowing very little of Japanese camouflage. Why the difference in colours?
Thankyou. The question of color is open to debate, the caramel seems to reflect modern research, the light grey earlier thoughts. I just so happen to really like the grey!

Hi there,
This is Academy’s new tool 1/48 A6M2 Zero. I built this after having recently completed Eduard’s A6M2 so I have included a comparison shot of both at the end. The Eduard scheme may be more in line with current thinking about the overall colour, but dammit, I wanted a grey Zero!
This is a really nice kit. Not without faults but overall very satisfied with how she turned out.
Apologies for the sensor dust spots.
There is a full build feature in ScaleModellingNow for those who subscribe.

Evening everyone,
This is Academy’s new 1/48 Zero “Battle of Midway”. There will be a full write up of the build shortly in Scale Modelling Now for those who subscribe.
A generally excellent kit but not without issue.
Anyway, I think she turned out OK.
Thanks for looking.

Just picked up an ICM 1/48 Ju-88A-4 for £23.74 and an ICM 1/48 Dornier Do-17Z-2 for 19.99 both delivered free through Prime. Bargains, especially compared to Hannants prices.
Hopefully the following links will work...

Nice finds Tom though the Do17 is actually 1/72.

Looking good. I came across a build on youtube that used tungsten putty for nose weight. I gave it a try and it works great!
That sounds useful for future reference, thanks 👍

Very nice silver finish. How did you get on fitting in the nose weight?
Hey there, You will need to cram as much as you can, in what is actually a quite cramped space, fair to say that it was an absolute nightmare. Some ingenuity later, she sits comfortably on the nose wheel, which hopefully won’t bend over time. I will now go and get more therapy!

Thanks everyone for your support.

Yes, very nice slippery-silver Vampire. Will look good in the cabinet.
Indeed she does, thanks 😊

That’s a beauty. I have one in my collection too and I can appreciate the work that has gone into your build. I had a devil of a time with the nose glazing but likely self inflicted! Congratulations on yours ✌️

Hello everyone
This is Airfix’s recent 1/48 Vampire F3 built out of the box for an article in Scale Modelling Now. I really enjoyed this kit despite some challenges along the way. SMN is an online resource for all modelling genres and the build hopefully makes for an interesting read !

Thanks guys, I enjoyed building this kit. There is definitely nothing wrong with the older Tamiya kits and I have another on the shelf, though I admit I am looking forward to the Eduard kit due out shortly.

Wow. That is a fantastic finish and the Sea Fury looks great in the Iraqi scheme.
I’ve recently built this kit in RAN colours and plan to do another in a Moroccan scheme.Nice one Steve, I have plans for another too.

That's a fantastic build.
Can I ask one question? I love the weathering, but wouldn't the markings also weather? Maybe at a different rate possibly.
Something I've been wanting to ask for some time.
Still a great build.
Cheers
Dick
Fair comment Dick, as my skills improve I guess the next level will be incorporating the decals more into the weathering process. I would actually describe my finishes as more artistic than necessarily uber accurate. It’s how I like to build and present them though.

super ! .. ..a resin cowl might have a been a bit of a time-saver but isn't really necessary at all on this kit IMHO. That said you did well to keep all the nice upper fuselage cowl details intact!
Thanks 👍. If I can save money and do it myself I will. To be honest though I used plastic card to replace those details I lost. A little time consuming but relatively basic skills and rewarding.

Stunning! I particularly like the weathering
Did you use the kit cowl or a resin replacement?
Thank you👍. I used the kit parts, fair to say some sanding was required! Rewarding though and at least the plastic is soft.

Thanks guys, comments really appreciated. It was a fun kit to build and very relaxing after an Eduard P51, which is a cracking kit too but requires a lot more attention.

Beautiful faded and chipped scheme.

While not in the scale of my choice, I have read and heard nothing but superlatives for this kit. I should consider one someday. Speaking of which, this one is absolutely beautiful!!!
Mike
It’s all true Mike. This is an expensive kit, but worth it. Everyone should get to build one. If it was £30 I would build several more. Unlikely to happen though.
