  1. I've found that Tamiya XF 73 JGSDF Green makes a reasonable match for FAA Dark Slate Grey and IJN XF 14 for the US shade of FAA Sky...XF 77 or 63 for the FAA Extra Dark Sea Grey Leslie Yes XF 24 is good un' too for EDSG
  2. I've found that Tamiya XF 73 JGSDF Green makes a reasonable match for FAA Dark Slate Grey and IJN XF 14 for the US shade of FAA Sky...XF 77 or 63 for the FAA Extra Dark Sea Grey Leslie
  3. I think you will find the Tamiya Acrylic Paint Retarder for spraying these paints to be useful too..i use it with the A20A thinners every time i spray..a little of it goes a long way tho'..just a few drops Leslie
  4. They have wrecked some of the other WWII colours too...the 75 Dark Sea Grey which was a good match for RAF Ocean Grey is now some washed out light grey..H72 RAF Dark Earth is now a dull brown..there some other Aqueous colours you might want to check out as a match for the H58..H16 Yellow Green...H 26 Bright Green...H46 Emerald Green and H6 Green they all seem to a bright yellowish green Leslie
  5. where abouts in Oz did you buy the 18ml Humbrol acrylics??
  6. The recent H 400 series are apprently Geram Railraod colours..that's why they have German names on them..odd but there you are..in the Mr Color lacquer range tthere are now two RAF like colours..the original ones and the ones that came in the boxed sets are now availabe individually..ie C22 Dark Earth and Dark Earth BS381C/450 C369 ps Looks like the above reply clears up the colour change in the H range Leslie
  7. Some of the Mr Color lacquer shades have changed too.. including the US Interior Green as above..not sure about the RAF ones..a local shop has a Mr Color rack i must have a look
  8. The new formula defiantely drys better than the old one especially the gloss colours whichnow dry rock hard but the colour matches on a lot of them are now way off...shame as many of the their matches..FS..BS etc were very good..end of a era in a way..some of the colours have stayes the same such US Navy Light Gull Grey..RAF Dark Earth is now some sort of dull brown..hand paining the paint drags on the brush because it's drying so fast..reminds me of AK Real Color armour line..i've tried adding some Tamiya acrylic retarder which seems help Leslie
  9. This footage of a Vickers Valiant lauching a Blue Steel missile at the 3.57 mark at Woomera might be of interest
  10. UHU white tack is the one you want..deesn't leave any residue
  11. Got it in one...doesn't spray on..it splatters on..that's just the way it is Les
  12. The new Tamiya LP11 silver...Tuff Stuff
  13. Some good news when it comes to Mr Hooby water based gloss acrylics drying times
  14. I've had that problem as well..Vallejo Model Air seems to splatter on rather than mist on like Tamiya or Mr Hobby acrylics..
  15. I have a old VHS copy of the '70's BBCTV series ''The secret War'' episode ''The Battle of the Beams'' towards the end there's a short vid of RAF Mosquito crew coming up behind a aircraft at night as and discussing whether it's a German night fighter and the pilot tells the navigator to ''Use the glasses'' to identify it..maybe it's one of those in this discussion Leslie
  16. No I haven't tried Agama...as you say probably just as difficult to get..there's some rumours around that Model Master Acryl might be on it's way out..not good..Xtracrylix is a gloss paint and dries quite fast so that's a factor while brush painting Model For Sale not restocking them has buggered things up I think for overseas sales... Leslie
  17. If you want to trial the paint why not order a few of those left at Models For Sale and see what you think...I don't think they are a amazing paint..Tamiya and Mr Hobby are bttter...Agama makes these paints for Hannants and most of those colours are available under their own range..just a thought..i was fortunate to be in Edinburgh a few years ago and visit Wonderland Models with the full range of Xtracrilix paints and enamel Xtracolor ..probably the best place to buy them in person in the UK Leslie
  18. https://www.modelsforsale.com/catalog/index.php?cPath=8_89999277&Xtracrylix-Acrylic-Paints I've been getting my Humbrol Acrylic.. Xtracrylics and Revell Aqua from the above UK online retailer..reasonable postage prices and VAT deducted for some time..they are the best postage wise I've found...very helpful staff too....they tend to take some time to restock colours tho' Hope that helps Leslie
  19. There is a problem with the odd bottle of Vallejo acrylic Metal Color not mixing properly as well...some are good..some aren't Leslie
  20. Yep I've used the Mr Hobby water base for many years and the satin and gloss colours just don't dry..to get round it I add their or Tamiya Flat base to matt it down..then use the new Tamiya semi gloss on top to apply the decals..usually works Leslie
  21. A while ago I was painting a Dragon El Alamein Sherman and decided to use XF58 which seemed to be the medium drab green I needed to spray the camo with....i had a old bottle in the larger size I had bought probably back in the 90's..worked fine only problem was I ran out right at the end...bugger...likelihood of a new current bottle of paint matching up would be unlikely...sprayed it on..did some touch ups..perfect match..just goes to show.. Leslie
  22. So in other words if you want to thin their paints you going to have to use thinners that stink to buggery and most likely the best results will be airbrushing them rather than hand painting them and on top of that some of the paint matches aren't the best either.. Leslie
  23. I have bought some colours haven't airbrush them yet but I've done some brush painting and they brush out ok but the paint seems to drag on the brush as you use so I add some water from the bottle I wash the brushs out and that seems to fix that but just feels a bit odd brushing it...
  24. I've just sprayed some Aeromaster Dark Gull Grey for a Phantom cockpit and I used a few drops of Vallejo Airbrush Thinner and it went down pretty well.. Leslie
  25. I bought some of a Mig Ammo Metal Colours too recently and as you say they don't dry..shame as they great looking metallic colours..the Revell Aqua on the other hand brush well when thinned and dry well.. Leslie
