  1. @Jedi Delio Oh wow, there's a memory I'd completely forgotten about Buck Rogers! I had a little Corgi version of the fighter when I was a kid I'd love to get my hands on a decent model as well, if you manage to find a good supplier, let us know!
  2. Hi @Noel Smith, it will indeed support any community, any forum and any website. And if you have issues at all, let me know and I'll look in to it As mentioned by Kiseca, there are a default options for sharing that work on all websites, and a number of dedicated share options/buttons, like the one for Britmodeller. The dedicated options provide you with the extra convenience of one-click sharing, and once signed in you can customise which dedicated share buttons are presented to you when you upload your photos, from a longer list of communities. If you need support for a site that's not already there, I'll add it! Just let me know either via PM or via a HobbyPhotoHost support ticket Best
  3. I took a quick look at the shuttle on unboxing, while inspecting the sprue and I remember thinking that it looks way too big? I've seen a few builds where people have mounted it on a rod next to the main model, so I might have a go at that, or something similar. This is the first consideration I've given to the shuttle tbh, I'd totally forgotten about it until your post I wonder if I could also light it in some way? You've got me thinking now!
  4. I've started lighting the saucer section using LED strips, cut to size. I've created positive and negative strips using copper tape, that I can solder additional wires to for other lights when required. Which means I can keep the wiring that travels through the neck of the model to a minimum. This also and saves on wire and helps keep things tidy. The impulse engines here still have masking tape over them. Though I quite like the yellow look
  5. That is absolutely stunning. Fantastic work! Thank you for posting as you went along, to see a little of your process was very interesting
  6. Those Bandai kits are great quality and easy to work with, I did the Tie-Fighter of theirs, and compared to my AMT models it was a dream. So well made. I'm going to have to get the AT-AT at some point, your's looks great, not overdone, subtle weathering and worthy of any modellers shelf Very nice work!
  7. ohh, they're wonderful! I watched Silent Running way back and was always fascinated with the robots. I got the movie on DVD some months ago, and it holds up surprisingly well And imagine actually getting feedback from Bruce Dern himself, just incredible!
  8. Oh, and this one too! They only cost £7.50 each. Great fun and well worth it!
  9. So here's what I've use the lid of a tube of toothpaste for (Oral B, by the way). It fits perfectly inside and supports the led in the centre, giving a nice bright spot in the middle and a gentile fade to the edges. I was originally going to have a coloured led in there, the lid would also help with light blocking. But I've decided that It would be best if the deflector had some colour while the lighting was turned off as well, so I will be giving the outside a coat of blue. Hopefully it's look okay
  10. Got this today, a small one for when I need a break from my 1:537 Enterprise build (in progress)
  11. Very happy to help! @detail is everything If you need anything else please let me know
  12. I've seen that a lot too. I'll be looking in to using brass rods to reinforce the pylons as it seems like it's a must for a solid and long lasting build. But for now I'm going to work on the electrics, partly because I have everything I need for that but mainly because my airbrush is busted :/ I'm not completely convinced that I've got the saucer section inserts properly flush and seamless, so I will likely have to do some more filling and sanding at some point. They seem to pass the fingernail test, but I bet once I get some primer on them, they'll show! Best Steve
  13. Not sure if that's how they did it, but it sounds quite likely. I think there's a good chance that approach will give a good result, so when I get there I'll give it a go thanks
  14. Hi Simon, unfortunately Facebook won't let you share photos that you've uploaded to it. Copy and pasting a URL in to HobbyPhotoHost from Facebook won't work for the same reason copy and pasting the URL directly in to these forums doesn't work. Facebook just don't allow it. HobbyPhotoHost allows you to upload photos from your device, so any photos you have stored on your computer or on your mobile/tablet can be uploaded. Photos that are already hosted on other websites are not suitable. The example video shows uploading from a laptop/desktop computer. If you don't want to use drag and drop as demonstrated, select the 'Toggle Mobile-Mode to Use Your Camera or to Select a File' button at the top of the HobbyPhotoHost upload page, then you will be able to select a file on your device to upload, or you can use your device camera. If you need further support please feel free to contact me via the support section on the HobbyPhotoHost website, or a PM. Direct support with the site owner and creator is something you don't get anywhere else! HobbyPhotoHost has been supporting this site for nearly 7 years now, but I'm not sure how friendly Britmodeller is to me offering help here. All the best
  15. A minor update! I've given the internal areas that will be lit a once over with a cheap white gloss to provide some reflectivity. I've got a couple of 5m reels of LED tape (5V) so I thought I'd do a quick test. I'm not sure yet how the nacelles will turn out, but what I've done is to mask of a section internally so that the light can bleed through the plastic. I'm planning to only put very thin coats of paint on the outside, on those sections. Finger crossed it'll look okay! Well, the test looks promising. Rough, but still promising! And, I've found a use good for the lid of a toothpaste tube on this model. More on that later
  16. I've created a simple video showing 2 very easy ways to share photos on here using HobbyPhotoHost.... As mentioned, HobbyPhotoHost was created for posting on Britmodeller and has supported it for almost 7 years now Hope people find it useful!
  17. All the windows are now drilled out. This is the best result I've had yet. the pinhole windows are easy as the drill-bit fits perfectly, but this time I feel I did a much better job on the oblong shaped windows. Masked off a few areas where I want light to bleed through. I've also masked the impulse crystal (I think that's what it's called) and the bottom sensor dome. To do those parts I used Vallejo Masking Fluid, which seems like it's basically liquid silicone. And the light-blocking layer is done, in black. To be followed by a White or silver coat to provide some reflectiveness for the internal LEDs.
  18. I managed to get a bit done today on this. I've put all the windows in place, filled and sanded the gaps, possibly a little more work to do on those, but not looking too bad. Of course I want them totally seamless. I've cut the read out of the saucer section so that I can add some LEDs for the impulse engines, Photo taken just before I tidied it up a bit. I've also drilled out the windows in the lower section of the saucer, and made some extra room for the LEDs in the middle. And I've started drilling the windows out on the secondary hull. The last time I tried drilling windows out was on my abandoned Reliant, and I was not happy with the results at all. This time I feel like I'm getting the hang if it, lots of careful work to do on this part yet though! Starting to feel like I've made some progress
  19. Ah, that hadn't occurred to me, but makes perfect sense. It seems that only a few select holes/windows are pre-drilled/moulded on this model, so lots of drilling to be done soon thanks
  20. Hi all! Here's my next project The Enterprise refit is one of my favourites. I'm not getting any of the after-market parts / no photo-etch parts, no aztecs decals etc and I'm not painting with pearlescent paints. But none of that really bother me. Sure it'd be nice but I'm on a budget and I plan to light it. I've had this model sitting in a pile in the corner of the room for years now, and I feel that I need to do one more big project like this, and possibly a few smaller ones before I tackle my price possession... the Polar Lights TOS Enterprise, 1:350 scale. So here we go! So, off to an interesting start. Getting the parts out of the box and looking at the saucer section, the window areas are completely cut out and need to be glued in and seams removed. Anyone know why this is the case? Seems a very odd decision to provide the kit like this. It's not even as if there are a choice of parts available for different configurations. Most odd. Still, getting them in and hiding the seams should be no problem, I hope!
  21. Hi all! After my Space 1999 Eagle, I wanted to do something smaller and quicker. This is my 1/72 Scale Tie Fighter from Bandai. Sorry there aren't a lot more photos, I thought this was going to be a very quick build between projects and it turned out a lot nicer and a lot more fun than I expected! I've included the in-progress photos here as well as there's only a couple, and even then they show it in almost a completed state. The paint-job is closer to the tie fighter in The Empire Strikes Back, which was always a favour of mine. Album: https://hobbyphotohost.com/album?i=59 A close-up of the finished model, showing the lovely details on the wing. I had hoped to take some better photos with some photographic background sheets (black or white) behind to really show it off, but I've run out of cash for now I actually broke the stand right after taking these photos. I though it had a bearing at the top allowing you to pivot the tie-fighter. I tried to move it just a little too much and it snapped. Still, with a little glue it's almost as good as new. I enjoyed painting this detail in the bottom, though you never see it unless you detach the model from the stand and remove the round bottom plate. The main body is fully painted, though the cockpit masking is still in place. Everything (but the stand) painted and ready to put together. The model is very well engineered, and fits together perfectly, unlike some of the Trek models I've worked with from AMT... I'm looking at you Mr Reliant! I would definitely recommend it. I did really enjoy this build, and it gave me an opportunity to be more adventurous with the painting than I have been on my Star Trek ships and the Eagle. I learned a lot that should be useful going forward Next project, I promise to take a lot more photos for an 'in-progress' thread! Cheers
  22. Thanks Mike, understood and also thank you @kiseca for your support If it's possible, for my little section I'd be happier if it was just showing the title, a link and perhaps one descriptive paragraph that won't age, until the entire original post can be rewritten or replaced by someone with a wider knowledge. -------- Hobbyphotohost.com https://hobbyphotohost.com/ HobbyPhotoHost provides photo hosting and sharing services for the modelling community, since 2017. 23. This is looking fantastic, and it's always interesting to see the different methods people use to tackle lighting a model. Those LED COB filaments look very useful, I might have to get a few to play with Looking forward to thew final reveal!
24. Hi, Is there any way that the original post in this thread can be updated? Gorby doesn't seem to have been active since March 2022 and just about every aspect of the info on my hosting service (HobbyPhotoHost) is very out of date in the OP, including the pricing and image limitations! Details of HobbyPhotoHost packages (including a free option) are here https://hobbyphotohost.com/upgrade and the site has had many upgrades and new features since the original post. HobbyPhotoHost is still aimed only at hobbyists with a focus on making it as easy as possible to share photos, designed specifically for use with BritModeller, with Britmodeller dedicated links and sharing photos with a single click, it also has lots of other sharing options, like direct links, email, BBcode etc. I feel like the site is often overlooked because of the old information contained here Here's a 2-min video showing just how easy it is to upload and share your photos to Britmodeller... https://youtu.be/tSPSqahfswY Many thanks Steve
  25. Thanks for the kind words all, thanks @Kallisti I was needlessly worried about the weathering, and probably cleaned up the wash too much too, it definitely would have looked okay with a bit more dirt. But I guess that's what it's all about; every model is a learning experience for me and this one taught me a lot I think I would feel much more comfortable masking and painting the panelling on a larger model, I may need to do a larger Eagle at some point and I'd have a bit more confidence with it having done this one. Interestingly I did buy some decal paper that I could have used to print my own panel decals, but I decided against it, worried that the end result would not look great. I really need to try them out one day to see if they're usable. I already have a couple of models lined up for the new year, including a 1:350 Klingon K'T'INGA and a 1:350 Enterprise, But I may add a larger Eagle if I can find one Thanks again for your tips and info! Here's wishing you all a wonderful 2024!
