  1. Are there any decal sheets that show any of the F15C/D aircraft at Lakenheath (prior to the F35s)? I would like to do a standard aircraft, not necessarily a painted up on - such as on the Wolfpak sheet.

Has anyone got any ideas - the Caracal & Astra sheets seem to be like hens teeth?

  2. UPDATE:

Back at the top of the thread, I was asking for help locating (any) drawings of the internal structure, and more hopefully the ducting system on the Hunting H126 Jet-Flap aircraft.

I've asked (from memory) BAE SYSTEMS, RAF Museum, RAF Cosford, Brooklands Museum, FAST and RAE Bedford, and though very helpful, haven't been able to locate any of the Hunting Archive, within which I was hoping to find some drawings.

I know that some of you wanted to see if I had found anything, but no.

However, if anyone does locate any suitable drawings, I will have to rely on info on Secret Projects, the odd NASA report and my copy of Barrie Hygate's book.

    Thanks for listening.

As it was operated from RAE Bedford by the Aerodynamics Flight your best bet may well be FAST at Farnborough, here; https://airsciences.org.uk/

They charge £5 for 30 min of research and £5 for each following 30 min or part thereof. They have a vast amount of documents but only about 5-10% is digitized thus far and they are also the custodians of material once held by BARG, a similar organization to FAST but based at the old RAE Bedford site.

Good luck and keep us informed of your progress, this is a very unique aeroplane and I would love to see it built, it is certainly up there on my wish list.

Thanks for the tip, Gary. I've sent them an email to see what they've got.

@will2017 could you let us know how you get on please? I'm interested too. I've been thinking about making one in 1/72.

I sure will - am running out of places to look at the mo.

There are 1/72 drawings in Barrie Hygate’s British Experimental Jet Aircraft, if this helps.

Thanks for reminding me, I will have to dig out my copy and have a look.

  5. It's more a request to borrow the collective knowledge of BM to see if anyone knows who holds the archive for Hunting Aircraft.

I have a (bizarre) need to research the Hunting H126, and would like to see if there are any Engineering Drawings anywhere.....

I want to build a large scale model of the aircraft - perhaps with cutaways to show the ducting from the engine... It's not something that will happen quickly, but I've tried all the most likely suspects - RAF Museum, BAe, Brooklands and they hold small numbers of reports / external photos, but no structural drawings. I have even looked on Secret Projects, but despite registering I can't get to logon to look at the imagery they have.

Does anyone know if the Hunting Aircraft archive is held anywhere, and if it is, how to get a look at it? - Long shot I know, but I thought that there might be someone here that might be able to help.

    Thanks.

  6. A bit of a long shot…..

I’ve seen a picture of a Tornado F3 as a trials aircraft for the Meteor missile. What I’m interested on is the type of camera pod on the wings - does anyone have any idea. Think it was about 2007 or so, and as far as I can tell the aircraft used was ZE203.

    Thanks.

I *think* I have seen a picture of a 19 or 92 sqn Lightning in bare metal.  May have been a T-bird, though.  Or, I may have imagined the whole thing.. 😲  I'm still trying to get stencil decals for mine after I bought the starter kit which has a very basic decal sheet.  The Xtradecal Lightning stencil sheet has been out of stock at Hannants for at least a year 😞

    Al.

Sheet X72096 is available right now. (not that I'm on commission, btw). Hope this helps

  8. Just had a look at the sheet I've got, and there are three sections of No Step wording - white for the F2/F3, Black for the RAF Tornados and Black for the RAFG Tornados.

You maybe looking at the Hook symbols in yellow (like the number '2' but with an extended baseline. There are no yellow & red feet symbols on this sheet.

  9. I've got one of the new Airfix Buccaneer S2B kits, and want to make a version from 237OCU as Honington is my nearest RAF base.

I can find the decals for 237 on Xtradecal 72307 (Buccaneer S.2 XT287 237 OCU RAF Honington 1972), but can I use this kit? It doesn't matter if I can't because I will use it for another aircraft, and I'll get an S2C as the base for this instead.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

    Thanks

  10. I'm considering a long-term build at the moment - a 1/32 Tornado F2/3, using the Revell GR1 as a base kit (mainly as the Italeri one is above my budget).

Does anyone know of any conversion kits that would allow me to create an F3, noting that the availability of the Heritage one seems to be like finding Bigfoot wearing the proverbial hens teeth?

I've seen a couple of good threads of people on here that have converted a 1/32 kit into an F3 - just wanted to do one myself.

Very interesting , those look nice!

    Never heard of them though..

Let us know your experience please

From what I've got, they look properly done and equal to anything other decal manufacturers produce.

From what I can remember, the whole thing cost about £11-12 which included the postage from Russia.

The person who produces them has aspirations to produce other 1/48 Tornado F3 silk-screen decal options - worth getting in touch via the website..
