  1. OK,OK. It was merely speculation or wishful thinking by me. I now accept that such cooperation between manufacturers is impossible. 24 hours later:- No, now that I think about it, I reckon that any business, including kit manufacturers , would do whatever is expedient to making a profit. So if that means cooperation, then why not.
  2. Fair enough, I was being flippant. I really don't know how they decide on a commercially viable subject. There were, however, three posters before me to mention the Sea Vixen, and I think that this Chat section is a good enough place for predictions as well as wishful thinking. I notice that no-one has shot me down for suggesting a 1/48 Scammell.
  3. O K then, Airfix looks at your post and thinks "six to one! that'll do for us! lets start cutting metal!" Of course, they might be too sober-minded to think in exclamation marks.
  4. Airfix might consider a Sea Vixen depending on how well the larger scale one sold. With regard to the Sea Hornet, I sometimes wonder if different manufacturers would think it valuable to share the same data files to each produce the same subject but in different scales. If so, then maybe DBMK could bring out a 1/32 Sea Hornet and leave the smaller scale to Airfix.
  5. I apologise for the bold text: I couldn't see how to change it.
  6. a) New tool---De Havilland Sea Hornet 1/72 scale b) Another new tool from the earlier data---De Havilland Vixen 1/72 scale c) Vintage classic---Kaman Sea Sprite d) Surprise release---Scammell Tank Transporter 1/48 scale I like this game but I agree with 3DStewart about so called 'up-scale' and 'down-scale'
  7. Thanks to TEXANTOMCAT for the answer to my question; putting two and two together, a new Jaguar seems likely I think a Halifax in 1/48 scale is a possibility since there is one close by that can be scanned. It may or may not have sales potential outside the UK, but it seems to me just as feasible as a Javelin or a Sea Vixen and, in my opinion, just as eccentric. Also, it must be about time for another 1/72 type to replace something from the old range and my guess is that with all the data for the 1/24 version, a Hellcat might be a good bet. Three aircraft would be in line with previous year's releases. Maybe we shall find out on Saturday, if Airfix have an announcement at Telford.
  8. I agree with rabbit leader about the origin of the 72 scale meteor. I would consider it prudent for Airfix to do the same with other recent projects, giving the market 72nd scale versions of the sea vixen, sea fury and hellcat.
  9. Thank you for all the courteous replies, the information is fascinating. I liked the added detail on the Anson model. I first came accross the subject seeing the BBC TV documentary The Secret War from 1978. I recommend this (but not any similarly titled programmes) to anyone with an interest in early electronic warfare, but also as it shows as it shows an Anson interior.
  10. Can anyone give details of the Anson aircraft that were fitted with Hallicrafters receivers to search for Knickebein transmissions in 1940? Specifically the serial numbers, squadron codes and windscreen shape. Thank you.
  11. This topic started with Airfix Facebook of a Bearcat, and now there is video of a B 29. Airfix could have scanned the one at the IWM.
  12. I think somewhere on rumourmonger it said 12th January
  13. There is a new series of Hornby a model world starting on 9/1/23 on Yesterday (UK TV channel) and they started filming in June this year, so maybe we'll get a good look at the development of one of the 2023 releases.
  14. The cad renders show a different, smoother, engine cowling as an option. Can anybody suggest what other variants might be released later?
  15. Unless I imagined it, I remember seeing on a BM post that Airfix visited the Fleet Air Arm museum sometime early in 2020. If I have remembered correctly, then I reckon that the result should be due to appear this year. Looking at the list of exhibits in the museum, it seems to me the two stand out candidates are the Avenger and the Corsair. Both of which would be replacements for the 50+ year old kits.
  16. Looking again at the Hornby programme on Yesterday, I noticed that the chap designing the quick build Mustang was using software that could derive a design file from photographs- possibly stills from the promotional film. This suggests to me that Airfix doesn't need to LIDAR an existing full size subject. If I am correct then we may see unexpected releases such as a DH Sea Hornet.
  17. I notice the absence of the Airfix Scammells in 72nd scale, just as they are missing from the Airfix website even though they appear in the catalogue. Does anybody know if they have been dropped and why?.
  18. Before your post was edited, you mentioned "the designer": does that mean that it was a one man, or woman, design job?
  19. Apologies for the diversion and a possibly stupid question, but I take it from this recommendation that appliance white works well on a large flat surface: would it also be suitable for the underside of a 1/72 Skyhawk? I ask this because I can imagine a paint that is designed for something on a domestic scale to spray on quite fiercely and clog up the nooks and crannies of a small model.
  20. My guesses would be for a Ki-100 (because they can scan it at Cosford), a Douglas Skyknight (because I fancy one), a Mistel Ju88a4/Bf109f4 (because I read about it years ago) and a Tornado (because of the reference to P45's flying about). The first three in 72nd scale. The Tornado in 48th scale would be enough of a big deal for them to announce it at Telford.
  21. Yeah, brand loyalty can be a bit of a trap. Even so, the impression that I get from reading various posts is that Airfix's existence is more than slightly precarious and for that reason I would stick to buying their products.
  22. I don't really think it's a hint, it's just wishful thinking. I'd like an F 4 and would prefer to give my money to Airfix.
  23. The box art for the Mig 17 gives a hint to a new F 4b, so that's good enough for me.
  24. I found by accident a French site called Aventures de l'histoire from 2008, which quoted part of an interview with Darrell Burge and also gave a list of the top ten best selling aircraft kits for the previous year (all manufacturers, not just Airfix). Of that list, Airfix have produced seven; the three missing are:- the DH Mosquito (it wouldnt be a great surprise if that appeared in 2018), the FW 190d (maybe the cad file for the current FW 190 could be stretched), but , most strangely, number ten on the list was the Mistel combination. Maybe Airfix have been holding back on a Ju 88 in order to produce an option for a Mistel variant.
