  1. I've tried messaging John directly, but have not heard back from him. Does he regularly visit the forum? Failing that, would anyone here possibly have a listing of his products with a description of the intended uses?
  2. Thanks Scott. Unfortunately, I do not have any of the Revell Lancasters - I got rid of the ones I had for the Airfix Lancaster kit.
  3. That's a good mention. I planned on doing that as well. I am looking for a kit with a suitable engine. My plan is to cast the front portion of it, then attach it to the inside of the engine cowling. I'll drill a hole through the front to attach the propeller.
  4. At one time or another, I have had pretty much all of Hasegawa's 1/72 Zero kits and I can tell you that the canopy is the same in all the kits. Same holds true for Tamiya's 1/72 A6M Zero kits. So it does not matter what the canopy mask indicates as far as the variant goes, it will fit any of the 1/72 Hasegawa A6M variants. BTW, after looking at Eduard's website, it looks like they only made a mask for the A6M5 kit. FWIW, to illustrate my comments as they pertain to the Tamiya kit (Hasegawa appears to have released a mask for only their A6M5 kit): CX337 A6M2b CX320 A6M5 See what I am saying? Hasegawa (and Tamiya) did not change their canopy regardless of what A6M variant it was being issued with. You are good to go.
  5. Good job on the Hurricane. Do you recall which B-17 kit you used the prop from?
  6. Reading Geoffrey Sinclair's informative post, started me wondering. I pulled out my Eduard 1/72 Riders in the Sky 1944 kit and I looked at the new sprue that Eduard added containing all the extra bits, amongst which, a new set of earlier type props. I wonder if those new props would be suited for the Canadian Hurricane?
  7. Not a big difference, and easy enough to address if wanted. The instrument panel does not bother me really. I planned to use one of the sets from Yahu. Still would love to see a resin cockpit set from Aires or CMK though.
  8. Thanks Chris. Not sure what the little doo-dad is underneath the fuselage, but it may not be important. I see that the air intake under the engine is a different shape, should be a reasonably easy thing to address. Does the MMP book you have mention anything about ghe cowlong diameters as brewerjerry makes reference to? All in all, it looks like it may be a rather easy conversion. Of course, if DW just issued a Mk.II, that would simplify things s whole lot! 😄
  9. Thanks Scott, I appreciate the info. I'll pick up a Quickboost set and put them aside for this.
  10. I discovered them recently myself and have purchased several of their decal sheets. They offer a very good selection and Canadian subject matter that you will not find elsewhere. Their decals are printed on a single sheet, so you will have to trim each one of the markings. On all of the sheets that I have bought, the registration has been excellent as has the colour. One thing that I will mention, their instruction sheets are not as in depth as what you would find with a more mainstream manufacturer, so having references on hand will be advisable. Their instructions do include numerous pics which do go a long way in lieu of the more standard type instructions. Personally, I like them very much. They are more expensive, but considering that they offer their decals in all the main scales and that the subject matter is something that you will not readily find from a company like Xtradecals or Microscale, they are well worth giving a try. HTH.
  11. Thank you gentlemen, I appreciate the quick responses. My apologies as well as I should have indicated the scale, in this case, 1/72.
  12. Would anyone be able to suggest a suitable 3 bladed spinnerless prop as seen on RCAF Hurricanes built in Canada?
  13. Hi all, can anyone comment on if its a simple conversion to make the 1/72 Dora Wings Lysander Mk.III into a Mk.II? I am mainly "concerned" with the external appearance. Looks like cowling needs the little "bumps" sanded off. Probably use the same engine as used on the Gladiator and Blenheim (SBS model). It'd be nice if there was a resin cockpit set. Am I missing anything? TIA.
  14. Thanks! That's good to know. I was considering getting the earlier version, but if it's still the soft plastic, I'll skip it and grab another of the PR version.
  15. I'll have to see if I can find that. What you've mentioned in your post Chuck, is exactly what I came across when comparing all 3 kits' canopies. Airfix's new kit does look much smaller than the one in either the Hasegawa or Tamiya kits.
  16. I picjed this kit up recently and the one thing that jumped out at me is that the canopy looks under scale. Any thoughts or comments on that?
  17. I recently purchased the newish 1/72 Airfix PR Mosquito XVI and Beaufort Mk.I. I am quite impressed with both, but left scratching my head with both. The Beaufort is made from the softer light grey plastic, where the Mosquito is made from a harder, dark grey plastic, which I quire like very much. Does anyone know if Airfix is making a move to this harder plastic? or if both releases of the Airfix Mosquito are made from this plastic? I compared my Airfix Mosquito to the Hasegawa kit. The fuselage and wings compared favourably. The Airfix pilot looks pretty small as does the canopy. Does anyone have any thoughts on the canopy in particular?
  18. The Airfix kit approached the conversion a little differently than Tamiya. Airfix gives you a separate nose piece that requires you to cut off a portion of the kit's nose. Tamiya gives you a whole new forward nose section that just replaces their equivalent parts from the Mk.VI kit. As far as Tamiya's approach goes, it makes sense based on how they designed their Mosquito kits. I haven't been able to get the Tamiya kit and the few that I have come across on eBay are over priced with equally over priced shipping. I did manage to score the Airfix kit at a reasonable/fair price with equally reasonable shipping costs. I ordered some resin and RTV rubber from Micro-Mark and plan to make a cast of the Airfix Mk.XIX (bull) nose piece. I'll trust that Airfix did a good job of getting the shape right. It should be a pretty easy little project. I do have the Hasegawa Mosquito kit which came with the smaller nose and RCAF markings. I'll need to piece together RCAF markings for the bull nose version.
  19. @brewerjerry, @PatG and @stevehnz many thanks for your answers and the most helpful information, I do appreciate it.
  20. Hope that some of the resident Mosquito experts can help me out here. Does the 1/72 Airfix Mosquito NF.XIX/J.30 have the same nose as Tamiya's Mosquito NF Mk.XIII/XVII: They look like they do, but I am not 100% sure. Thank you!
  21. That's too bad. Airfix will miss the boat on yet another opportunity.
  22. Apolopgies if I missed this, but does anyone know if Airfix will be scaling down their 1/48 Anson to 1/72?
