  1. Yes mate. Built it up as a bomber version though. Wasn't nice to build. Wouldn't build another
  2. Man that kit was awful. I had the displeasure of building that one. Twas Orrible
  3. Well I asked before entering and was told it was fine as the original kit dated back to 1970.
  4. Thanks mate. Courage indeed. Still haven't cracked the bags open yet, I'm saving it for Saturday but the flash....oh the flash. Im hoping folk find the build interesting and that I can give a good build thread to the group build. Cheers Greg. Appreciate the insight into the wing dihedral too, it's something I shall have a look at when the time comes. If brute strength is needed I'll have a word with the Mrs..... 🤣 That sounds interesting Ian, you don't have any idea when this was do you? Thanks gunpowder, I'll have a look at your link and see what tips I can nick 🤣 I'm hoping I won't need any longer but having never built anything of this scale and in this state before I've no idea. Looking dorward to getting cracking king this weekend guys, really hope I can put a good build together and I love up to expectation. No pressure 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
  5. Oh god. Ha ha cheers mate, had to stop it slipping off the sofa. Hoping you wouldn't notice, you eagle eye you 🤣
  6. Hey chaps Here's my offering for the group build. The very wonderful 1/24 Spitfire. A gloriously flash (y) kit. I shall be aiming to complete the build in these markings. A malta spit. Now there's a load of discussion surrounding colours of these spitfires. I'm going for dark earth with extra dark sea grey and an azure blue underside. Whether this is historically accurate or not I don't know and to be fair this period allows for substantial artistic licence or so I like to think. I'll be pimping her up a bit too with the addition of these lovely bits. I'm also going to have a crack at some proper modelling and try some scratch building along the way. And finally here's the mess that I'm hoping turns into a decent build. Got to love the 1 bag and the thousand pieces rattling around loose. Wish me luck.
  7. Been to the LMS today to stock up ready for the big event next week. 😁 got myself some plastic road, plastic card and the such so I'm actually going to have a bash at some proper modelling. My first ever go at scratch building. Can't see it going very well folks but fingers crossed what I manage is passable. Stocked up on paints too, had a nightmare finding azure blue so had to go with another option. 7 whole days!
  8. Not long to go now folks. Getting excited. And nervous. The thought of building something old and big scares the daylights out of me. Going to give it a good bash and see what happens.
  9. I've asked the Mrs. She says she remembers and I've led a very sheltered life. Apparently. 😜
  10. That would be fantastic thank you. I'm sending a message.
  11. Hi Ben Thanks for the comments. Short of scratch building the bombs this really is my only option. I'm happy with a representation of the bombs on the aircraft not necessarily 100% accuracy. So they don't have to be perfect or exact. I know it's not everyone's cup of tea and I'm not wanting to ignore your comments as I am most grateful for you taking the time to reply. Cheers
  12. Hi Dennis No need to apologise whatsoever. I'm just really grateful for your help and advice. That's brilliant I shall get the 500lbers ordered. Thanks so much again.
  13. Hi Dennis Quick question. Sorry if this seems rather daft. But would 1/48 1000lb bombs scale up enough to 1/24 as a representation of the 250lb bombs carried by a spitfire? I've come across these here and it's got me wondering: https://www.sovereignhobbies.co.uk/products/ultracast-1-48-1000-lb-mc-mk-i-wwii-british-general-purpose-bombs-u48002 I'd be grateful for your thoughts if you don't mind?
  14. 3 weeks??? Man I'll need that time to get the flash off the kit! I knew it was soon but didn't realise just how soon. Good job I'm starting to gather info ready for the build. Need to get several other non aircraft related projects off the desk before then too come to think of it. No pressure then. I'm sorry mate. But who???
  15. I don't have either unfortunately. The stash consists of 2 at present. Running out of storage sadly. Need to get it all sorted. Thanks again Dennis
  16. Hi Dennis, thanks for the input. Tiffie you say? Sold one a few weeks ago wish I had known as would have had it away 🤬. Joking aside it's a good idea posting in the wanted section so will do that. Thank you very much. Theres hardly anything in the aftermarket world is there. Strange really as you'd think there would be masses of stuff around. Ive never scratch built anything before in my modelling "career" so far but there has to be a first time doesn't there. I'm sure there are loads of references out there and I'm willing to give it a bash. Thank you very much indeed I'm most grateful for your advice. Cheers
  17. Hi chaps Does anyone know whether anyone makes 1/24 scale bomb racks and bombs suitable for a MkV spitfire at all please? I've looked online but can't find anything anywhere. Might be a long shot but would be great if there is. Cheers Ant
  18. Thanks James you're very kind. I don't have an airbrush so they're all painted using a brush. The 109s were painted using vallejo air colours in the Luftwaffe set for aircraft pre 41. I used tape for the straight ish lines for the tops of the wings but didn't worry too much about then being perfect due to the scale. The camo on the spitfires is free hand. Again due to the scale not too worried about it being exact just a representation will do for me 😁 109s weathered using a Flory wash but it was a bit too dark really. The spits were given a wash of army painter soft tone ink. And that's it really. Glad you like them thanks again for the compliment.
  19. @James B sorry for the delay in posting these this week has been mad so far! Anyway here they are. Ignore the colours and camo schemes etc. I've just put some paint on to represent the aircraft and wasn't overly concerned with being accurate. The wings seem to have warped again after being straightened out which is a nightmare so please ignore those too. The decals are from the link I sent you.
  20. Cheers 3d ☺ Certainly will be quick with the part count.
  21. Hi James I'll photo them tomorrow and post the images for you. No major issues. The decals aren't the softest in the world and take some setting but in that scale they look the part. I'm getting some custom decals made for the p51s I have. The wife wants the duxfors eagles with the black and white checkerboard nose so they've been ordered. No issues with silvering2they do need cutting close to the actual decal.but they do react well to a setting solution. I use humbrol decalfix and there were no issues. Ill.post the pictures of mine for you to have a look at. Cheers 🐜
  22. Looking great James! Regarding your decals, I've recently acquired some from this chap here https://shop.miscmini.com/. Relatively cheap, well in the U.K. Anyway, and speedy delivery. They're Ok for the small scale and look the part. I'll post some images up of mine if you're interested. Im shortly to be ordering some mustang and zero ones from him too.
  23. Hi guys thank you all for your comments, they are really helpful and some very good points are made. not to mention some great builds! Appreciate your input very much indeed. Food for thought indeed. Ive got a "few" other projects to finish off first then will have a crack at the spit. Will probably look at a seat and some more decals to make a more exciting version and see where it takes me and if I fancy adding more into it, thanks again chaps.
