  1. Hi bhouse, At present the outside of the boxes are just sealed and finished with a coat of paint/varnish and my logo. Because the boxes stack nicely it is possible to add Images to the faces of the boxes that look fairly continuous across the stacked boxes. So if the boxes were stored on a shelf you could make them look really good. Another option, and this is one I have tried with some Memoir 44 boards I made for my children, is to simply have different layouts on each side. However, that's not an option once you put terrain on them. Cheers.
  2. Hi, This is a bit of a plug I'm afraid. In solving the problem of how to build on big boards without taking up masses of space, I came up with a folding base-board system which allows the board, terrain, buildings and all to be folded up into little boxes which are easy to transport and store. I've used the system on my North African terrain (picture below). The picture is part of my KickStarter project which is already live. There's loads more information about it all on KickStarter, my website and there's also a video of the whole thing folding away on youtube. I'm hoping that this is something people might be interested in. But I'd also love you hear your comments and feedback about the folding baseboard idea. Cheers.
  3. Hi Sarge, Sorry I haven't replied in ages. Been a bit busy. What games? At the moment not much. I've played Warhammer in the past but not for a while and dabbled with FoW but I'm trying to train my boys so we've started with Memoir 44 a because it's nice and simple (although a bit too random for me) and we're modding the rules a bit so the boys can use their models and soldiers. They (we) have a lot of 8th army and DAK figures, hence the North African board. Now I just have to look forward to them beating me. Cheers.
  4. I like the Citadel stuff, their washes were the first ones I ever tried, just wish they weren't so expensive. I've just finished of a big diorama/game board based on North Africa (1941ish), although I showed it at IPMS and most people thought it was Afghanistan I used Halford's sand textured paint for the second half of the board and actually quite liked the effect. I was working in 72 scale and one layer over the clay hills just broke the surface up a bit. Mostly I'm just experimenting - and making a mess. There's a lot more pictures on my blog.
  5. Cheers Badder, adding in the paint while mixing is a good call. I've already made that mistake once in the last few months! Everything is so further on than when I last made a lot of models, I feel like a 5 year old at an astrophysics convention. I've joined a couple of forums and I have to say, everyone has been ace, so cheers.
  6. As a quick update - rather than having to sit through listening to me in a video, which should probably be classed as cruel and unusual punishment - I've added a few summary pictures, including close ups of the textures, to the blog post instead. I've also posted (hopefully) the main picture (below). My recipe was: 20g plaster of paris, 10g water and between 15 - 35g of fine(ish) sand (top row). Adding 2.5ml of pva made it feel slightly less brittle (bottom row). The greener bit in the top right is the vallejo earth texture, for comparison, which looked pretty good too when it had finally dried. I'd still like to hear of any other "recipes" if anyone has them.
  7. Hi, Have any of you had any luck recreating the products like vallejo's earth textures? I've had a bit of an experiment myself and ended up with a mix of plaster, water, pva and sand which is really cheap and cheerful and dries really quickly. I've made a little video (if anyone's interested) and posted it on my blog. I'd be really interested to hear whatever concoctions people have tried and if there is a consensus on what works best? Cheers, Jonathon.
