  1. Not the era I usually go for, but I have to say it looks great and it's very tempting to have a crack at one myself! Simon
  2. Wow...this has moved along pretty sharpish! Looking forward to the home stretch. Hoping to pick up some more great tips for my future builds. Thanks for sharing. Simon
  3. Second build completed. I enjoyed the build. Someone on here explained it was a basic kit - an old Frog working - but it fitted together well and looked ok, but I am no expert. An introduction to the RLM colours I never knew about as a kid and the camouflage - are there easy ways of tackling this? More issues with yellow decals - gave up on them and masked the stripes instead as per the encouragement from the Zero. Is yellow always a difficult colour to use? I was using Humbrol and Revell enamels, the yellow was Revell and was so wishy washy (technical term there) despite continuous stirring. Anyone any thoughts for me? About the paints, reading articles and posts on here I am beginning to think that I should be thinning them before application. At the moment it is straight out of the tin and onto the primer. If thinning is the way forward any tips or recommendations for me? Thanks for looking. Any comments tips will be happily taken on board...next up is a Mustang.
  4. Lovely build and great finish. You better get going on the other nine...2017 just around the corner! Simon
  5. Don't forget the avocado coloured suites!!! Great build, love the finished look, the paint job looks super. Simon
  6. I enjoy the brisk business like approach and hope you don't mind if I take a pew and follow. Simon
  7. Loved the various builds shown by you tonight.
  8. despite your difficulties, you seem to have completed a great model.
  9. Lovely looking plane. Like the weathering detail too...something I will try to emulate for the first time a few kits down the line. The yellow panels on the leading wing edges, did you use a decal or mask and paint? I only ask because I had real problems with a similar decal on my first finished kit. Simon
  10. Such a stunning finish and beautifully photographed too. Love the colour scheme, really striking!
  11. saw this in the Airfix mag, mind if I join for the ride?
  12. Wow! Such detail, finesse, impact... If only I could get halfway to that standard. 2 months for a great result. Well done Simon
  13. Love the starting point to this build, the personal links and primary source knowledge. I don't know much about scales over 1/72, but do you mind if I take a pew and follow? Simon
  14. Lovely looking build. Was the weathering easy to do? I only want to know as that is something I have yet to try as I am building as new at the moment!
  15. Ian, it looks great. Encourages me to look for one to add to me to do stash. Simon
  16. Jessica, duly noted head hung with shame
  17. Guys, Thanks for the replies. I think from what you are saying to me that I need to put more prep time in to ensure the surface is really smooth before I apply the decals. I did use Humbrol decalfix to apply them but maybe not in the right way. I was pretty pleased with the result but I know it can be improved and is way off the standard of some of the dispalys on here! Again thanks for the guidance. Simon
  18. After a 40 year, or thereabouts, gap I have taken to the sticking things together and throwing paint at the result to see if it resembles anything like the instructions says it should. My main issue with this build was with the decals... the silvering effect, especially the red lines on the wings tried my hardest to get the yellow flashes on the wings to wrap around but failed spectacularly resulting in cracks and tears in places. Have thought about a paint touch up but is this wise? If so what colour will match? Any suggestions, advise etc...
