  1. Thanks for that, I did manage to change my order before dispatch and got the Red set. However, on the box it states optimised for Brush painting 😂😂. Got to admit the jury's out on Hataka paint, I found it very fragile, even though the model was primed the white Tamiya tape peeled it off. That said the white paint is the best I've ever used.
  2. They have sold them in our Aldi's every November/December for the last 3 years. Always the Mk1 Spit, Me 109, Fw 190 and Jet Provost. All starter kits, bargain at £4.99 each. Thank you Thank you
  3. Hi All, picked this one up just before Christmas and having spent a few months building the 'Memphis Belle' I just wanted something to bash together. I've built this one a few times so no surprises with the kit. I used Vallejo acrylics and was disappointed with how fragile they are, every time I removed the masking tape or White Tack it pulled a some paint away even having primed the model. On the plus side it was easy to touch in with a paint brush. Initially, to my eye the colours looked a little dark but I did tone them down with pastels. Controversially I have stopped dipping the canopies in Pledge/Klear prior to masking, I find I'm getting better results without. As usual all comments and criticisms are welcome. Thanks for looking.
  4. Hi, I know the Hataka Blue line is optimised for Brush painting but has anybody tried using it in an airbrush?
  5. Thank you, I just drill a 2mm hole and use 2mm brass rod. Generally they stay in the position I put them in, if not I use the tiniest drop of Superglue to hold them in the desired position. Thank you. Thank you
  6. Hi Everybody and a Happy New Year to you all. Having completed the last model in my stash I picked these up from the usual pre Christmas sale at Aldi just to give me something to do until I found out what surprises Santa had in store for me. I have built both of thee models a number of times, normally just before Christmas, so decided I would like to do something different with them and have a bit of a kit bash. Now to be honest I have always found weathering something of a black art, so many of my decent paint jobs have ended up in the bin, so I tend to shy away from it. With that in mind I decided I would do these two in totally different paint schemes and no matter how the weathering went I would see it through to a conclusion and post them for your critique. My first challenge to myself was to try a winter camouflage, I hate painting anything white so this would really test me. With both models as far as I know from my internet research the paint paint schemes represent actual aircraft, but squadron markings etc are purely fictitious and are only there for decoration, so apologies to the purists. Both have been painted with Tamiya and Vallejo acrylics and the little pots that came with the models. As always all comments and criticisms are welcome. What doesn't show up very well in the photos is that I managed to fog the rear window when reattaching the aerial, a rookie mistake but another lesson on the learning curve. For my next challenge I wanted to create a 'dusty' look so decided to attempt a tropical scheme. I saw this scheme just before Christmas when someone submitted a RFI report, they had built the model in 1/48 and I really liked it. Once again Squadron markings are totally wrong and purely for decoration. I'm not sure I achieved the dusty look I was after but nevertheless I enjoyed both builds, thanks for looking.
  7. Excellent build, I've just done her in 1/72, I was thinking I might have to do another B.17 and it could be that one!
  8. Thank you,t hat's interesting to know about the glazing, I'm not an expert so had to led by the instructions on the Eduard masking set!
  9. Thank you, it is a great kit. I had some minor niggles, whilst I'm not an expert or a river counter I thought it was a cop out on Revell 's part use 4 silver square decals on top of the nose to represent glazing. The ammo belts for the ball turret and waste guns were ridiculously out of scale and the only construction issue was fitting the engine nacelles, they were very hit and miss. I had looked at Revells 1/48 scale version but realised it had raised panel lines which I avoid like the plague.
  10. Thank you. Your point about the undercarriage makes perfect sense, if you look at the geometry of the undercarriage the wheels would have to be straighter in order to retract into the bay.
  11. Thank you, that's useful information about the vents, now I know what they are I will definitely weather appropriately on the next build. Incidentally I love the colour scheme of your model, that may well be my next B.17 build. Thank you.
  12. Hi All, its been a long time since I posted anything on the forum, that's because I've been working on this one for the last few months. I had made my mind up to finish every model in my modest stash and this was the last one, that is until Aldi once again starting selling their pre Christmas cheap Airfix models. I really enjoyed the build, it went together really well with very little filler used anywhere. Midway through the build I was disappointed to read that this is not a very accurate representation of the 'Belle,' so I think I will have to build another. any recommendations on a more authentic model would be appreciated. Anyway, this one was built completely out of the box and painted with Tamiya, Revell, Humbrol and Vallejo acrylics. Thanks for looking, all comments and criticisms are welcome. I hope everybody out there has a brilliant Christmas and New year.
  13. Thank you, the instructions call out for 20 grammes spread between the nose and engine nacelles, I managed to get 25 crammed into the nose and it's plenty.
  14. I've got be honest I read a lot of threads on here, yours included, and struggled with whether I should attempt to age and fade the finish when I wasn't happy with the OD, but I've wrecked so many models with the weathering that I shyed away from it. But your rendition is fantastic.
