Happy New Year to all on this website! Have been v. impressed by the range and quality of peoples' modelling output this year - thought I'd chuck mine in as well. Some of the projects were started and finished in this course of this year; however, some, like the hunter and Claude, have been hanging around the shelf of doom for years, and I am having a concerted effort to finish those off. The Claude in particular must have been hanging around half-done for at least 7 or 8 years! Anyway, didn't think I would have much to show; as the title has it, I start far more than I finish, but it does seem that I have done more than I thought. Hope you enjoy, and apologies for the photography, but then it does tend to hide a multitude of sins! Best regards, Paul R. 1/72 Italeri HE111 with Xtradecals, this year's annual Battle of Britain build . . . great kit. 1/72 Italeri F-35A, a Christmas present from my wife last year. Once again, a neat little kit that is much better than is often portrayed. 1/722 Airfix Fabric winged Hurricane with Rob Taurus canopy, Revell Vokes filter, and Xtradecal codes for a 73sqn Mk1 Trop. I sanded the fabric effect down, added basic rescribing and moved the winglights. Colour scheme taken from the SAM book of Hurricane profiles. Put alot of work into this, and was in the end disappointed with the canopy; windows seem too small somehow. Oh well. 1/72 Hobbyboss Seahawk - a superb little kit. 1/48 Classic Airframes Claude; a bit out of my normal range, but am increasingly getting into Japanese aircraft. Difficult to make, but good to have something unusual. 1/72 Airfix Tigermoth. Very cute. Airfix are taking a ridiculous amount of my disposable income at the moment. 1/72 Airfix Zero, with the new Tamiya grey/green which I rather like. 1/48 Hasegawa A-4K, with scratch built Kahu updates. Awaiting its new Brassin Maverick! 1/48 Airfix Seafire Mk17. Another kit that was simply great fun. 1/48 Hunter F5, Academy/Aeroclub/Wolfpack and numerous other add ons. I do wish Airfix would do hunters in 1/48th, I would have at least 4! 1/48 Tamiya Firefly. Only occasionally do armour, but the firefly is always a draw. This is going to be part of a small diorama. Was pleased with the homemade netting and tarpaulin rolls. A biggie. One of my favourite 'planes, the 1/32 Revell typhoon needed alot of elbow grease, but built up it looks smashing. Xtradecal marks and Two Mikes accessories. Finally; 1/72 Airfix Mk22 in racing colours. I have recently bought a few Airfix stands for inflight models, and am making a wooden base and brass pole affair for a 1/48th Super hornet in flight. It seems I am regressing to childhood. . . and it does allow me to squeeze a few more models into my rather full cabinet! Anyway, there it is. Upwards and onwards!

PaulR replied to hgbn's topic in Group Build Chat 2020
I'd love to join with this. Have had a Norwegian airforce interest for a long time, and have alot of sabres, F-5s, F-104s and F-16s (plus Vingtor decals!) to choise from. Would love to see this a runner! Best regards, Paul -
1/48 KITTY HAWK MARINE F-35B Lightning II

Top effort! May I ask what paint brand and colours you used? That's a spot on match for my perception of the f-35! Paul -
1/72 Zvezda Junkers Ju88A-1 (modified from A-5 kit)
PaulR replied to Stew Dapple's topic in Ready for Inspection - Aircraft
Hallo there! Fab model, and I too am very keen for a BoB A1 to be released keep hoping revell will issue this version, as from what I understand the a4 version is set up to be able to do this. Fingers crossed bearing in mind that is the 75th anniversary next year!! Paul -
Italeri He-111 Battle of Britain Day
PaulR replied to PaulR's topic in Ready for Inspection - Aircraft
Thanks awfully chaps! -
Well better late than never. I started this as a Battle of Britain double build on the WIP forum last year. I always try to build one Battle of Britain model each summer as part of my ongoing obsession with that pivotal summer, and given this had ended up on the shelf of doom, it seemed only logical to get it done. Although it is an old kit (easily 30 plus years, and the boxing I had must have been near enough original) with very fine raised lines, it builds very well indeed, and above all was simply great fun to make. I have never built a Heinkel before, and now I finally have one in my BoB collection. I think it is a very graceful design, quite unlike the angular efficiency of Messerschmidts et al. The kit was built using Xtradecals from the 70th Anniversary sheet ( I am gradually building all of the aircraft on it - am looking forward muchly to the new Airfix Do-17!), Xtracrylix for the topsides, Tamiya XF23 for the undersides, Quickboost exhaust pipes and crucially Eduard masks. I had a go at replicating the overspray on the pink wing markings; I am rather pleased with the effect. The more I consider it, this kit must have been more or less cutting edge when it was released, and as said before still builds up very well. On a historical note, the precise aircraft shown was actually flown on operations on the 15th September 1940, and was badly damaged as a result. It did make it back to France, albeit with two injured crewmen. So, in tribute to momentous events exactly 74 years ago, here is my Heinkel. Apologies for dodgy background to photos, but I have put in a 15 hour day, and it is beyond me to do anything else at the precise moment!

Revell 1/48th RAF Tornado GR1A.......
PaulR replied to general melchett's topic in Work in Progress - Aircraft
Hi there, Am looking forward to this project as am going to do something similar. Out of interest, who is Shaun, by the by? Does he run an aftermarket company? Am very interested in a repkacement LRMTS pod; why on earth revell didnt include the clear part when there is everything else in there for an RAF gr1/4 beats me.... Paul -
Well, a square year after I last touched this thread, I have dug out this heinkel from the 'to do' pile! I aim to do a Battle of Britain project every summer (am planning to do rather a few next year as part of the proposed 75th BoB anniversary groupbuild!) but this summer rather seems to have gone astray, and as I am starting a new job in two weeks, time might be even tighter! This seems an ideal opportunity to get something finished off. Anyhow, I've got the canopy on, and sanded down the joins...now to start on the masking using the eduard mask set. That should kill a few hours...

Up for this as well! Paul

Hi Jon, I'd personally love to see 41 sqn typhoon marks for both single and twin seaters- would buy 1/72 and 1/48 versions! I'd also go for Italian airforce marks for their latest typhoon squadron, the one with the checkerboard rudders-37 stormo I think? That might not fit in with the theme of the sheet, however! looking forward to the RAF update 2014 sheet! Best regards, Paul
-
Further to my similar thread on this forum, am rather hoping that the D-Day typhoon and 41 sqn Typhoon markings make it onto this sheet as well! Paul
-
Goody! Now we just need a clear resin LRMTS chin pod that revell only half supplied...
-
That is absolutely grand! Am desperate for xtradecal to do these markings, as I don't have the ability to make my own. Can I ask where you got the paveway ivs, and how didvyou make the centreline pylon for the pod? Paul
-
Just a thought- having bought the kit and being a bit miffed about the mk v oil cooler, and slightly unconvinced by the prop boss, I have been casting about for an aftermarket replacement. As it happens, I saw reference to a set by model design construction that has all this plus a radiator and exhausts. Am sure lots of people are aware of this source, but for those, like me, who weren't.... Can't wait to get stuck in to this... or might save it fir the BoB group build next year! best regards, Paul
-
What it says on the tin really... looking for one for the new revell tornado! Paul
-
I'd like to think it might be a possibility... they did usafe sheets previously, and recent sheets for f-102s etc give some scope I guess. Oh well, here's hoping!
-
... a set of RAF typhoon specials (29 sqn, 6 sqn ), ZK348 of no.1 sqn (the one with the bumble bee nose art), FGR4 and T3s of 41sqn and the German tiger typhoon? And while I'm thinking on, how about a set of USAFE phantoms, eagles and f-16s from the 80s? Some european one f-4Es and Gs from Ramstein and Spangdahlem maybe? Only a thought! Paul
-
Hallo Callum, No, there is a grey plastic LRMTS pod, but for reasons best known to Revell, they blocked off the clear 'chisel' shaped window from the clear sprue. In so far that it would be an inevitable clean up and fill job to get the whole thing flush, I rather think it would be better to have the whole thing molded in clear plastic or resin. Quickboost did something similar when they issued a complete clear resin IRST for the hasegawa draken, replacing the two part kit item. HTH, Paul
-
Well, having purchased the kit all gung ho to do an RAF version, and having totally failed to do a vaguely satisfactory LRMTS window cos this is the only thing missing from the kit to do a basic RAF machine, I am now wondering if anyone out there (Quickboost? Relish Models? Alleycat?) will do a complete LRMTS pod in clear resin? Yours in hope, Paul . . .

Cheers old chap! This place is a goldmine!) Paul

Hallo there, Am building an xtrakit F8 at the moment as a dayglo striped target tug. However, am sure that I have to mod the rear of the ventral fuel tank with some sort of bracket for the target; however, can't seem to find any pics. might anyone be able to point me in the right direction? Best regards, Paul

new xtradecals Lightning T5 'pink flamingo decals'....
PaulR replied to PaulR's topic in Aircraft Cold War
Hallo jon, thanks for the tip about flipping the decal over- am now looking forward muchly to my pink flamingo! Also, would like to say that the recent xtradecal sets have made a severe dent in the old bank balance, and have/are/ will be adorning most of my models... now, any chance of a 41 sqn typhoon... or am I pushing my luck?!Best regards, Paul -
Evening all, Was very pleased to get my new sword T5 this morning, and even more excited to get the xtradecal 'pink flamingo' markings to go with it... until I realised that the flamingoes, or the port side one at least, is facing thd wrong way! This is a recurring problem with this particular airframe... the Airframe decals made the same mistake, and considering the only pictures of this machine I have ever seen show the port side very clearly, I am not quite sure how this could go wrong. A real shame- I had been looking forward to making a model of this unique jet for some time. Disappointed! Yours venting, Paul

1/32 Revell Typhoon FGR4 (Tranche 2) of 1 Sqn
PaulR replied to PaulR's topic in Ready for Inspection - Aircraft
Blast. Will have to try and find a pink decal stripe! on other great unexplained mysteries, why hasn't anyone done a centreline pylon and lightening pod....
