  1. Cheers Nigel... The VH tribute is a 3D portrayal of Van Halen's 5150 album cover. It was based on Atlas and the figure's face on the cover was based on Sly Stallone. Was my favourite VH album and one of my fave "growing up" albums. Basically I made the figure up from a standard posable figure and putty, and the globe was 3D printed. A lot of things could have been done to improve it however it was on and off for over a year so I wanted to get to the completion.
  2. JJ's 2021 Yearbook Gday my BM mates, Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Hope you all had a great break (if any). Those of you who keep up with world weather will understand this meme for my home town, Perth, Western Australia - we had a run of 40s (c) and currently a week of 40s, 42 yesterday so some good indoor/AC modelling weather !! Anyway it was a really good year with the model projects, and now down to the final shelf in my cabinet which I'll most certainly complete this year. I have 3 kits in the stash ready to go so will fill that shelf and probably add some "gear up" jets hanging in the cabinet. Also have some ship projects to finish up before I return to the jets. Hope you like the 2021 collection, loving all of the 2021 yearbooks so far !! 4. Yep, always looking to get some different memorabilia into the music room !! Thanks mate Cheers mate
  5. Van Halen Music Room Tribute - 5150 Here's a project I've been working on (and off) for the past couple of years - The Van Halen 5150 album cover image... a kind of Atlas type theme... 5150 is my favorite VH album.... Now I'm not a Dave hater but this album was essentially my short circuit to hard rock/metal and I have always regarded the Red Rocker Sammy Hagar as one of the coolest rockers of all time.... I started this a while back and put it aside to do other projects but after the passing of EVH, I felt I should focus to complete it.... So about the build, first time I've tried this medium. I used a Figma figure and used Miiliput and Tamiya Putty to get him buff. I initially wanted to use a Chrome garden globe ornament and a heap of plasticard however my work mate offered to 3D print it so I went that way.... I firstly tried a Vallejo metallic paint and Tamiya gloss clear spraycan but it seemed a bit dull and it turned out the local auto shop had some cheap chrome spray that done the job... I'm happy for the journey and the learning but thought I would point out how this could have been improved: fill and sand the globe's ridges so it would be more of a smooth globe effect fill and sand the VH so it too would look more smooth use other tooling to get a more detailed figure But as always, nothing is perfect and its about the journey.... WIP is here: Here's the album cover.. Thanks for looking, hope you liked it... Cheers JJ

Here's the album cover And here's the build... Working on the globe... First coat of Vallejo chrome Inserted some pins to help reinforce the rings... Painting and setting up base.. Making the figure's 5150 necklace... And then a second try at the chrome.... All done.... Thanks for checking it out, hope you liked it. RFI is here: Cheers JJ
  7. Nice one Alun... I remember doing RAS/Jackstays with these boats in RAN... we had around 20 people on our Jackstay line and they had maybe 5-6 Rugby forwards on theirs !! Cheers JJ
  8. Really nice work mate, looks like a great kit !! Cheers JJ
  9. Hi Johnny, really nice work, the 3D printing really does add a new element to model making. I'm no 3D printing boff however I have a project at the moment (soon to publish in the figurine section) where I needed a perfect sphere made. Our mechanical engineer (very smart dude) at work printed one out however his first attempt came out somewhat oval shaped. Not sure if there's any relation but he fixed this ultimately by changing one of the axis belts because when ever he adjusted the belt tension, it changed the distance in the spacing of the belt teeth which in turn changed the proportions of the end product. He did do a small interim modification to add counterweight (like I said - smart dude) but a stronger belt fixed the issue. As I said, not sure if its related but being lucky enough to work with talented people like this, I hate their casual talents being left for waste !!! Loving the builds mate !! Cheers JJ
  10. Thanks mate, there were a couple on eBay but the price was ridiculous - around $70-80 USD . Mine was around $20 USD - purchase within Australia (albeit, the new decals cost that too !!). If you're happy to wait, one may come up cheaper maybe in an opened damaged box. Hope one pops up for you !! Cheers JJ
  11. Thanks Harold, Your reply peaked my curiosity and sent me on a google-athon !! I also wondered how they fly (especially from carriers) with so much load. Looking through images, I found the most common Navy images on take off were the 2 x tanks and maybe sidewinders, and on landing, just the 2 x tanks, and most of the images of the fully loaded version were Marines. Maybe something in that ? Perhaps there are A-4 buffs here that can confirm the loadouts v the performance ? Cheers JJ Cheers mate
  12. Cheers Gary, hope you get to your kit soon enough, also appears this kit variant is from your part if the globe !!
  13. 1:48 Monogram OA-4M Skyhawk - Outlaws Gday my BM mates !! Here's my latest build, the 1:48 Monogram OA-4M Skyhawk. This version is MCAS Yuma with a few changes as explained below. This kit is a real old one from the mid-80s (most awesome time in life huh ?).... The kit was actually really nicely detailed, I could only imagine it was a high end kit all those years ago. If you pick one of these up you may be lucky to get a good decal set however my decals were shot... fell apart and the glue was a mere white putty !! As luck had it, Furball had a complete set of A4 decals that included my variant. I've taken a little artistic licensing with the markings based on what I had to try to keep the low-viz theme. I also recycled IP decals from other kits as I couldn't find ant added goodies for the OA-4M variant so mostly OOB. Overall, a great old kit I enjoyed thoroughly.... WIP is here: Hope you like it. Cheers JJ Hope you liked it... Thanks for watching.. Cheers JJ
  14. Bit of wash on the landing gear bays.. This was the stage where I was ready to do my favorite stage of decals but it was not to happen... At this stage I ordered the Furball decals and went onto do the underside as there weren't any (but one) decals there... I used some spare decals for the fuel tanks and ammo. And now for the waiting.... decals coming from US... And they've arrived, great set of decals, getting the job done now.. All done !! Hope you liked it, RFI is here: Cheers JJ

Cheers JJ Getting started on the cockpit.... Getting the fuselage and wings together and some weight in the nose Thought I'd try something different with the rear cockpit, put some masking tape on the seam... Getting some white on before primer... Had to fix this one gap and re-prime Finishing the priming... Preshading.. Doing some metallic colors and shading... Wheels.. Starting the main painting... And the start of epic masking for the different cammo lines...
  16. Hi mate, looks great so far. Is that a canopy decal with pilots helmet above ?? Never seen anything like this before. Not sure I'm a big fan as you would certainly get more detail out of doing the cockpit yourself, especially where you're heading with the added detail. Maybe its something that would be used for a more "low detail" desktop display ? Look forward to following the build. Cheers JJ
  17. Mate, hands down, best Starfighter I've seen, nice work !! Cheers JJ
