  1. I wish you all the best, Dave - the medical types are pretty good these days and will look after you. I hope you see some real improvement soon!
  2. Utterly superb work! I've just happened across this again and have been enjoying seeing how many techniques I'd be unable to match. I can dream, though 🙂. I was also taken by how good the colours looked... then I saw what you'd used and it was all made clear to me. Beautiful! Looking forward to whatever the next model is.
  3. A gigantic hospital bill; four toes and subsquenqnt stuff: a diabetic fever; a begnign brain tumour. I stilll have my job, and have a deep drive to conmpletete models.
  4. Great review, as always. And I'll be chuckling over this for a while, too 🤣.
  5. I have a friend who was a docent at several art galleries in Minnesota; she has love and understanding of art, techniques and artists from her own interest and from subsequent degrees. Every day on Facebook she posts an artist's birthday and uses the opportunity to describe the artist and their style, their lives, their preferred media, and the ins and outs of their techniques. It's fascinating, and she has a way of getting all that information across that even art morons like myself can understand and appreciate. I've even discovered some whose work I enjoy. Andrew Wyeth is a good example. In the end, though, I return to the stuff I like - John Atkinson Grimshaw, Edward Hopper, Ansel Adams, Roy Cross, and so on. Realism and/or impressionism. I do not like stuff like a half sheep in formaldehyde (ew!), a pile of bricks (other than the sheer temerity of being paid for it), or other shocking/silly pieces of art. On the other hand, I did enjoy the condemned house in London(?) being filled with concrete then having the outside removed, but I have no idea why. As for the Andy Warhol's of the world - maybe they always wanted to do the pop-art thing, but had to make ends meet in the meantime. A bit like H. R. Giger being a draughtsman until ELP and Alien allowed him to show what his imagination was capable of (grossly simplified as to what happened, I'm sure, but you see what I'm saying).
  6. You've done a fine job, and the painting is brilliant. But yes, leave the pylons be 😁.
  7. That is excellent! I have this kit, started, but squirreled away after I realised I didn't know what I was doing with regard to its droopy pylons. I love what you've created with the Aztecing.
  8. That scheme has really grown on me, and you've done a cracking job as usual!
  9. Lovely model and a clever and creative idea!
  10. As always, Alistair, you've done a beautiful job! Off to read the WIP now, as I'd missed it.
  11. Tamiya Masking Tape for Curves is pretty good - takes a bit of practice and needs some de-tacking, but it does the job: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Tamiya-Masking-Tape-Curves-87178/dp/B00VTDYX5U/ref=sr_1_8? Other than that, the old method of paper masks cut to shape, then wetted with water and placed on the surface. Can't do all surfaces at once, but will not damage underlying paint.
  12. There are a lot of techniques in this article that may help you: https://www.arcair.com/tnt1/101-200/tnt126-bare-matal-shading-Brown/00.shtm
  13. That's looking rather smart, Steve! Looking forward to the decoration and danglies.
  14. Yay for the lack of leeches, Bill! Glad they're getting things narrowed down. And, congratulations on the anniversary - that is quite the milestone, Hopefully the excursion to Hawaii will be enjoyable, and also allow your mojo to regrow a bit. Have fun!
  15. Imagine our surprise 😁. This was Henry in his prime, and weighing about 16 pounds at the time.
  16. It appears to have legs enough to threaten the fabled four-word story, too. Pretty amazing.
  17. Looks like it's from somewhere on Deviant Art - there are areas there where this sort of "predictive" design is drawn up, and the style of this one fits right in. It also looks like, as @Pete in Lincs notes, the artist doesn't understand the whys of design for purpose, and there are a lot there that have great big, beefy aircraft with teensy little weapons hanging off them. Bless them. Here's a link to the military aircraft area on Deviant Art - some are good, some are... well, you be the judge. https://www.deviantart.com/tag/militaryaircraft
