Nimrod Dave replied to wpower's topic in Aircraft Cold War
Bill MSN is an online instant meessenging service where you can chat directly to someone live online and send files. You can download it off the microsoft site. In the mean time heres another site http://buccsociety.conforums.com/index.cgi Also have you considered this.....its a fantastic read and the pics are something else. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Buccaneer-Graham-P...7461&sr=1-1 Another superb reference is... Aeroguide 30 Blackburn Buccaneer S Mks 1&2 By Roger Chesneau published by Adhoc publications. It's difficult to get hold of, but one of the best reference guides you can get on the Bucc Another good one http://www.amazon.co.uk/Blackburn-Buccanee...8146&sr=1-1 I haven't got this one but I do have the previous two ( also have the Tim Laming Book...again its superb) -
I was doing zonals in the cockpit one day and discovered the interconsol was trying it's best to seperate itself from the aircraft ! The crack was about a foot long !!!!
-
Are the bearings on the TR pitch links still made from italian cheese ? Yours truly found that ! Along with the cracking interconsol brackets.

Another Lightning F3

Very nice. The only reason the frightening had wings was to keep the nav lights apart ! -
I don't know Paul, the WAFU version has an unhealthy attraction to salt water !

Were Nimrods fitted with BOZ pods during Gulf War 1?
Nimrod Dave replied to tonyot's topic in Aircraft Modern
Yes they were fitted with BOZ pods. I think they had a thermal camera fitted called TICAMS, can't remember if it was standard fit for GW1. -
Can anyone point me in the direction of a decent 1/48 or larger Supermarine Scimitar kit ?
-
This is what happens when you let the groundcrew loose....... They should have let me loose on the Merlins when I was on 28 sqn.
-
Fantasy of flight is ok, pleasant enough drive south of Orlando.
-
Might have summat to do with the structure it bolts onto being made from italian cheese.
-
Mattie hasn't built his Nimrod sitting too high....it's at jacking weight !!!
-
Have a look at the Nimrod threads, myself, Mattie and Pete have all worked on them. Pete in particular has superb knowledge, he was my rigger sgt when I was on them.
-
Last time I saw that many Merlins was when I worked on 28 Sqn !!! Are windscreens on the models like the full size ? ie you have to order 4 or 5 before you get one that fits ?
-
IIRC correctly the Jag has always been plagued by heat problems with regard to the engines. It's well known for being a jet where energy management was critical, definately not one to yank the stick on. I believe the correct term for the levers in the cockpit of the jag was 'variable noise levers'...

Scale Drawings/Plans for B2 Avro Vulcan!
Nimrod Dave replied to V-Force's topic in Aircraft Cold War
Here you go http://www.airwar.ru/other/draw/avrovulcanl+k.zip http://www.airwar.ru/other/draw/vulcan.zip http://www.airwar.ru/other/draw/avrovulcankr.zip -
IIRC the Mk4 seat was fitted to a load of aircraft inc Hunter, and a load of others. The 4CS was specifically mentioned in a link I found when I was doing my own research on the Scimiter for a future RC Model.
-
and a Martin-Baker 4CS
-
If you want a more critical eye PM me, I served as a rigger on 230sqn from 94 to 97 and PASF and 33 sqn from 98 to 2001. I know my way round a Puma pretty well you might say.

As someone who worked on them for five years, from the photos I have to say it's not a bad effort. As previously mention the Loral pods don't look right, the landing light is too far out board and the winder pylon looks a bit far outboard (will have to double check). I think someone mentioned u/c height, but they did tend to vary depending on the fuel load, obviously a kite with landing fuel sits much higher than say the SAR jet, which had 84K on board. I did notice the stone guard is missing off the nosewheel. If you want to be really picky, there don't appear to be any static wicks either. But, I'm just pleased someone has finally modelled the old girl. Be nice to work on her without having to wirelock something in a fantasically uncomfortable position !!!

In the mean time, I'll plod on with my radio controlled Nimrod. They'll make a nice pair once they're both done.
-
Winders were before my time. I only joined NLS in late 89. IIRC the camera was fitted between the stbd BOZ and the Stbd 4A tank. It was a very rare fit though. I think they did some of the camera change over in the gulf. I did once see the winder sight fitted in the cockpit, a really complex affair...NOT. Two bits of perspex with lines etched on them. I've got a film from my camcorder of a Nimrod landing back at Kinloss, filmed from behind the pilots. If I can find it and get put on disc I'll post it. IIRC the smae film has a guided tour of the inside, inc muggins here doing AB/BF cockpit checks.

Didn't they trial fit both on one of the Jets. I vaguely remember one having both on. I could be wrong, I'm going back about 16 years.
