  1. What with this, the Valiants and PHatNeS' B-1B all taking up model bench space, I think that the site should be renamed BIGmodeller!! That's a monster of a kit there but the work done on it is superb! I just love Neil's conversion sets and the choice of variant is a great reminder that these things did a lot more than drop a couple of A-bombs! I'm with Bex on the Washington but just too limited with display space, even if I did do a 1/72nd one!
  2. Hi to you all! OK, I'm fully refreshed after skiing with the kids for a week in the French Alps and on my return I once again entered Southwick Model Centre and sat at the workbench wondering why on earth I ever decided on doing four simultaneous builds! I might just get into a simple OOB project in the near future as a diversion away from the Thunderbolts! Anyway, progress has been fairly swift now that the detailing of the interior and engines is complete, so it was time to hide it all away between the fuselage halves and get the main airframe components together. The photographs show the four P-47s in various states of progress, ranging from a bare plastic razorback, which will be completed as an RAF Thunderbolt 1, from Freightdog's Brits Abroad decal sheet. The second one has been sprayed gloss black undercoat for the Alclad II finish. For this I decanted some Tamiya TS-14 Gloss Black from the aerosol into a film canister, then poured it into the airbrush. This paint is great and dries very quickly for a gloss paint, it's then an excellent base for the Alclad II. This aircraft will be a Duxford based USAF aircraft, the final scheme has yet to be decided. The third P-47, a bubbletop, has the Alclad II sprayed on and for the final finish I used White Aluminium. This one will also be finished as an RAF Thunderbolt using The Freightdogs decal sheet. The fourth one is nearing completion with the cowling and rudder painted white, some of the panels have been sprayed a slightly darker shade of aluminium and the upper nose area has been painted purple! Yes, purple! This aircraft was a squadron hack at RAF Duxford and is to have a black and white checked cowling with red flashes of detail, it looks pretty smart on the decal sheet instructions! Anyway, here are the pics and hope you like them!
  3. You don't mean Shergar, that pony that was nicked by the nasty A-rabs of Dubai, the Al Maktoum family, flown to Ireland and used as a stud for the Godolphin stable. Do you mean that Shergar, Nick?
  4. Occassionally I venture over to the 'Civil side' and come across beauties like this! What a great little model! Well, what a great port side of the model!
  5. What can I say apart from... The weathering is just sublime!
  6. Nostalgia indeed! A lovely kit of one of my favourite British aircraft.
  7. Very nice! Great idea and brought a smile to my face on this cold and blustery morning!
  8. Hi all, The title says it all really. If I was going to do a Concorde, which of the two kits is the better one?
  9. Hi Brian! So you're pretty nifty with the civvie stuff too!!! That is a rather gorgeous looking Connie!
  10. Yep, I know what you mean! That's why I've stood back and waited for Tamiya's new range of 1/48th V-Bombers to come out later this year! Seriously though, what a great collection of Valiants, easily the most overlooked of the V-Bombers and despite the sinister job it had to do, what a graceful and elegant machine!
  11. Yes, I'll raise you, Sir! Thunderbird 3! The best looking sci-fi creation ever!! Thunderbird 3 is International Rescue's space vehicle piloted by astronauts Alan & John Tracy. Being the tallest vehicle in IR's fleet, Thunderbird 3 measures 287 feet high and is launched from a concealed silo beneath the roundhouse on Tracy Island. It is used for all space rescues and is also a link to Thunderbird 5. The basic crew complement is 2 or 3. Motive power is provided by atomic electricity generators, which also power particle accelerators. Helium pressurized rocket propellant and rocket fuel provides takeoff and thruster power. Now just exactly what is that big fat green thing again? It looks like a slug! And as for the underwater JCB, T-Bird 4... Nope, T-Bird 3 was always my fave!
  12. Yeah, so how do your models turn out on a good day?! That's a really neat Jag there and looks great to my eyes, I'd be proud of it!
  13. Now that is one very nice model! I'd forgotten how colourful the Shacks could be!
  14. WOW! Some beautiful shots there!
  15. Yep, just ditto to the above! I also love the Boston, and in red star markings, well, that's the first model of one I've seen!
  16. Really nice collection of models there! I've also go a soft spot for the Spitfire Vc maltese defender, how did you do the conversion to the c wing?
  17. And I thought it was the Roden Gladiator! The end result is great regardless of which kit you used, but especially as it was the older Lindberg kit!
  18. I had my reply already thought of which was "You don't see many of those built up!" but it's still appropriate!
  19. It's already been said, but I'll say it again, yes, it should have been placed at Yeavilton. I don't think that the amount of work that was put in there by Brian was appreciated. It really is a great piece of work. Anyway, who needs prizes when you've got us all to go "Aaaaaaahhhhhhh......."?
  20. Now those two really are VERY nice!!

    Gripen

Out of all of the modern, grey, twin-finned, vectored-thrust, canard-winged jet thingies that have been developed since the end of the cold war, the Gripen, IMHO, has to be the prettiest and loveliest of them all! Looks good in Isreali colours too!
  22. The last 72nd Phantom I did was an Airfix one which looked like this: The Fujimi one is apparently leaps and bounds ahead and the F-4 always looks good in any of the aerobatic team's liveries! Nice work Mish!!
  23. Hi Al! Great job with the B-1! I've also always wanted to do one but then what do you do with it when it's finished? I guess the loft is the answer...
