F-86K Kaasjager, Musthave 1/48
srkirad replied to Erik Leijdens's topic in Ready for Inspection - Aircraft
Very nice job. I like the shading on some panels, and actually whole model is very neat. BTW, this the first time I see Dutch Sabre Dog, so I'm a bit surprised. Cheers, S. -
Airfix 1/72 Hawker Hurricane Mk I (VVKJ - metal wings) >>> FINISHED <<<
srkirad replied to srkirad's topic in KUTA XII GB
Between fuselage and wings there was a gap which I chose to fix with few styrene strips (0.2 & 0.3mm). When glue gets dry I'll just cut out strips to match the wing shape. -
Thank you so much Patrice! I generally like a bit exotic and not so usual markings on planes, so it would be pleasure to finish this one. Cheers, S.

Good evening (at least it is here in Europe) to everyone. This GB looks very interesting for me as I do have and P-51D started ages ago, last steps done in 2011 to be precise, but I would like to check with "GB boss" if this work of mine is actually eligible to participate - I can not evaluate if progress seen on photos is more or less than 25% so I will leave to Patrice (TempestMk5) to judge if I can join GB with this kit... Photos are made today, but last steps are done 8 years ago... Cockpit is painted, but etched walls are to be assembled ... Italeri missed to angrave panel lines on join of wings and fuselage so I made them with masks and spraying of few layers of Mr. Surfacer. I've planned to make this Mustang as Guatemalan machine... Thanks in advance, Srđan

Airfix 1/72 Hawker Hurricane Mk I (VVKJ - metal wings) >>> FINISHED <<<
srkirad replied to srkirad's topic in KUTA XII GB
Here are the first steps of rebooting this kit - I glued some more styrene strips in wheelbay area, glued wing halves together, and I can say this part of the kit is now ready for coat of primer. -
You're gonna assign them to "extended" Blitzbuilds? (72-96hrs)

I like how mottles turned out, and visible preshading marks below the camouflage. I would also praise quality of photos and diffuse shadows beneath the model.

Airfix 1/72 Hawker Hurricane Mk I (VVKJ - metal wings) >>> FINISHED <<<
srkirad replied to srkirad's topic in KUTA XII GB
Yup, I think so. Maybe a bit of aligning in wheelbay area, but it should not be a big job before priming/painting of interiors... -
This kit was started almost 8 years ago. I've planned to rebuild metal wings from this kit to fabric ones, using homemade "scraping" knife, and make Royal Yugoslav licence Zmaj-built Mk I, but Airfix issued Hurri with fabric wings, so this one went to shelf, waiting for its turn. When I saw this groupbuild, I thought this could be chance to finish this one also as VVKJ Mk I, but with metal wings (second batch of original Hawker-built Hurricanes for Yugoslavia). So here we are - this photo represents current state of model: - cockpit walls are detailed with scratchbuilt parts - pilot seat is resin part - instrument panel is scratchbuilt from styrene sheet - spinner and blades + 5-spoked wheels are resin copies - wheelbay is completely scratchbuilt from styrene sheet and stretched sprue I'm hopeful I'll be able to finish this one in 3 months.. at least I'll give it a try!

Nice one, I like those greasy panel lines, like on the real thing! -
Heavy weathered Russian Navy KP 1/48 Su-25UTG
srkirad replied to HartDeco's topic in Ready for Inspection - Aircraft
I really like those faded areas on tail - they are very realisticly done! Thumbs up for this one! -
My method is following: 1. Applying overall primer (usually Mr. Surfacer 1000/1200 for camouflaged kits) 2. Spraying Black Mr. Surfacer along the panel lines - this is emphasizing panel lines itselves 3. Spraying camouflage colour in few thin layers, until black panel lines are just visible enough 4. I add few drops of white color into camouflage colour, and then spray this lighter camo colour only on the panels beetween panel lines - this way panel lines are more emphasized, while panel middles are more highlighted as they are more exposed to sunlight on real thing. 5. If panel lines are still too contrast strong, then I overspray them with very thin layer of camo colour 6. Repeating this for every camouflage colour Here you can see effect of this technique: Preshading applied: Camouflage colours applied over preshading, with lightened panels It may be a bit hard to achieve straight lines while spraying black along panel lines, especially in smaller scales (1/144) but it's just a matter of practice. For NMF surfaces I do inverted technique - panel lines stay light coloured, while panel middles are black, so NMF colours get a kind of depth. Of course, I am open for experimenting for achieving various effects - this marbleshading that Antb mentioned is interesting for US Navy aircraft as they had marble-like effects due to salty water and weathering on the sea. Anyway, do the practice on some old kit until you are satisfied with result.. it's time consuming, but it's the best way to achieve results, and of course it can be also a lot of fun during experimenting with these effects. Regards, S.

this made me laugh for few minutes I hoped that Revell provided little Finnish flag for the driver seat so I can have some more Finnish "equipment", but I was wrong - McLaren didn't have that detail as Kimi's and Montoya's names were written on sidepods 0:) Anyway, I hope I understood your post correctly, so this proposal of mine can be enlisted as a "go go"? If that is right, please add me to the list, and I'll do my best to try to finish 1/24 car in 3 months, especially this is first car model I'd make as a more experienced modeller since last time (some 10-13 years ago I did Peterbilt truck but I was just learning to work with airbrush at the time). (P.S. - backup idea - Danish F-100D waits around the corner if I'm wrong with above so count me in anyway)

Regarding to civilian vehicles, is allowed vehicle to represent Scandinavian DRIVER? I have in stash kit of McLaren Mercedes MP4/20, driven by Kimi Raikkonen, so would this be eligible for GB? If not, my other option would be Danish F-100D.

Really good work. I like how weathering turned out and very subtle difference beetween green and grey camouflage colours. -

Thanks for the warm welcome trickyrich Themed builds are not new to me, as I already participated in various themes on our (serbian) modelling forum, but Britmodellers' groupbuilds are definitely more numerous and various, so it's an honour for me to join this international "competition". These builds are especially good for motivation and inspiration - my modelling mojo rises with these kinds of building kits, so I hope this one will gather enough members to go to next round, and in the end to go ahead as a 2020 GB. Once again, thanks for welcome, and keep in touch Cheers, S. -
Sure Wez, count me in with Somua Cheers, S.
-
I can suggest backup plan to avoid complication with rules - 1/72 Somua - boxart is newer, but original mould is from 1979, so it's before Humbrol era?

Hello Flathead, I can give my view on this matter. I use Canon EOS 70D camera, and for photographing scale models I found Canon EF 100mm Macro lens to be the best choice for sharpness of details on kits. Lighting is maybe even more important for good photos - I've experimented with various kinds of light, and in the end came to the final solution - Canon Speedlite 430EX III-RT flash - it has option to bounce flash to the ceiling (which is white) and light returns back down to the model (positioned on white background cardboard), giving the model that diffuse/soft shadows. I know that this is maybe a bit expensive solution, but my other hobby is photography so it complemented each other. Before this camera I had Canon SX10IS - prosumer/superzoom camera - that could focus from distance of few milimeters. The key is to have some lens that can focus to tiny details on kit, and also a very good lighting because in macro photography you never have enough light. Anyway, try using good source of light (the more light - the better), white background so it can "absorb" light, and/or some white (or light coloured) "diffusers" near the source of light, so you can direct light to the model. Hope it helped a bit... Regards, S.

Hello to everyone on BritModeller, My name is Srđan. I'm from Belgrade, Serbia, and born in 1977. I started with scale modelling in 1987/8 - first kit was VEB 1/100 Saab J35 My favourite (and primary) scale is 1/72, but I also have a lot of 144s, while dominant categories are aviation and AFVs. Of course there are some excursions to other scales or categories, but those above are my preocupation. Besides scale modelling, my other hobby is photography which I combine with travelling. Professionally, I work in digital printing workshop, so I can say that my work and hobbies complement each other in some way... Here are few photos of my most recent finished kits (I'm not sure if it's OK with Britmodellers' rules to leave link to my Wordpress gallery): Well, that would be it from me for now Cheers! S.

Thanks for warm welcome Dennis. I think this "cat" will survive year ahead, because I have so many kits on schedule, so no problem with it. Anyway, I'm glad to have an oportunity to work on my kit at the same time as other members, so we can all be a support to each other during GB... Cheers, S.

Hello, I was planning to build this one - if Scalemates kit timeline is correct this is originally moulded by Heller? If it is within this GB rules, then count me in. Thanks in advance, Srđan (srkirad)

Hello to everyone on Britmodeller - this is my first post on forum, so I hope I don't break any rules with first post right here. I'd like to sign up for this GB with Trumpeter 1/144 F-86F-30 in one a bit unusual and exotic livery. Thanks in advance and greetings to all, Srđan (srkirad)
