  1. The kit decals are old and unusable so I've had to find an alternative I've decided to go with Thai Airways markings on this one Back to the bench to finish the engines
  2. After test fitting the Wings I installed the cockpit window in readiness for priming. I'm using AIclad's primer and micro filler for this step. I find it works well for me when I still have small/tiny gaps here and there. Once the primer is dry I gentle rub over the surface with paper to remove the fine grit, finishing off with a smooth surface. Once the base colour was added I found a few more little gaps around the cockpit and tail. Again I used the Acrylic putty and cleaned off the excess with a wet finger. Thanks for looking
  3. Hi all. Continuing on with my current airliner builds, I've started on an old Airfix A300 Airbus. The kit is extremely old but should finish up looking Ok after some paint and decals. First up I'm going to fill in the windows. For this I glue some plastic card on the inside and once dry fill the windows with Acrylic filler ( just converted to this) which is much easier to work with and clean up for me. Once both sides were done I glue the fuselage together.
  4. Finally calling this one done. Even though its an old kit, still a lot of fun. Builds quick and was fun to paint up. Pretty pleased with how she turned out. Hope you all like it. Thanks for looking. Jurgen
  5. A big thankyou to lan for pointing out that I messed up the flaptrack fairings. A huge DOH moment 🙊 So as carefully as I could I removed them and installed them facing the right way. Thanks again lan 😀
  6. Engines finished and painted up. Finished up the landing gear doors and completed the decals. She's done 😀
  7. Yeah, that levelling thinner is great! Metal colours are Alclad sprayed over black and white in spots to vary the shades.
  8. Thanks Adam. No not yet. Still need to do the engines and work out a few more details.
  9. Thanks guys. I'm using Mr Hobby White (H1) thinned with leveling thinner. I've just switched to Mr Hobby from Tamiya and love the stuff! LOL. You have no idea how many times that song has popped into my head while doing this build. I managed to fix the blemishes by lightly overspraying the effected sections. I found that when reapplying the white it was brighter than the rest of the paintwork so I feathered the sections to blend them in. I've also painted up and decalled the wings and added the aluminium strip to the intake.
  10. I was originally planning to build and finnish this one nice and quick and post into RFI. Unfortunately I ran into a couple issues with decal placement ( all my fault ) and reaction from the decal solution on the paintwork so I thought I'd share my challenges The kit itself is a very quick and good build. After sanding off the raised details, the fuselage was joined and filler was worked into the seams and windows to get a nice smoothe finish. This was then covered with gloss white with dull aluminium added to the lower half. I then added window decals and started the main livery decals. I then started on the fuselage decals. Unfortunately I had some alignment issue while trying to keep the window decals visable under the livery decals. I fixed the gap by cutting a small section of the tail decal from a spare set and fitting it into the gap. I then found the paintwork reacted to the decal setting solution in places leaving noticable spots and rings. Time to do some careful masking and break out the AB again.
  11. Well here it is. My first complete Airliner kit. The kit itself is a quick build and with a little filler and heaps of sanding it turns out ok. Kit decals were stickers and were a let down so I printed my own on my inkjet printer. Decals are a little thick but I'm still happy with the overall result. Thanks for looking. Jurgen
  12. And she's done! Added the grey on the bottom portion of the aircraft, finished and attached the engines and lights. 1/288 scale is very close to a 1/72 jet for those wondering.
  13. Overall, pretty happy with how they've turned out considering the lack of options available.
  14. Calling the decals done. I think I'll need quite a few coats of Future to blend them in. Overall, pretty happy with how they've turned out considering the lack of options available.
  15. Whilst adding the finishing touches to my Ansett 747, I decide to have a play with a kit my wife picked from an Antiques store last weekend. The B747 kit was produced by Landex Creations, a manufacturer I've never heard of before. Based on the box and contents it looks to be an early 70's piece. It also a unique 1/288 scale, something I haven't seen before. With not many parts I decided to do a quick, no fuss build. With the airframe halves and wings glued it was time to fill the gaps and sand the raised panel lines. An hour later I had it ready for priming and a splash of colour. Next came some metallic colour for the wings. Once dry I masked the wing centre and added the grey. Everything was going perfect up until this point. I decided to add the decals to the body of the aircraft at they stage and found that the kit decals were actually stickers. Not perfect but not a show stopper either. But when I added the sticker to the tail I realised that the Singapore Airlines logo was yellow with a ' Black' background instead of Blue. Oh well, I'll just have to get some aftermarket one Ummm.... 1/288 scale is not common. In fact I couldn't find any at all. So at this point I decided to print my own. I'd picked up some inkjet decal paper a while ago so I thought I'd give it a try. While looking for reference pics I stumbled across a great pic of a JAL 747 that took my fancy. If I was going to try making my own decals I might as well try this. So a couple hours later I had some decals sized, printed and ready to go. One side done and dusted. While I'm happy with the way the decals turned out, they are a litte thick. Hopefully once I'm finished with the decals a couple of coats of Future will address that.
  16. Thanks guys! After the decal placement on the tail, I noticed the blue shade demarcation was showing so I masked the section and reapplied the lighter blue. Next up I masked the paintwork in prep for the metalic colours. Engines were glued into place and wings dry fitted to see how it all sits. Just need to glue the wings in place, add the nav lights and fit the cockpit windsheld into place. Thanks for looking 😀
  17. Nice work so far. You can never have too many RAAF hornets 😉
  18. Thanks guys 😀 Gave the entire kit an initial coat of white, covered the front section in Cling Wrap ( which protected the white section and made handling easier) and then painted on the blue. I then added some more white ensuring I feathered it towards the blue. Blue shade is Tamiya Blue (X-4)
  19. Taking a little break from my current Hornet builds (in various stages of completion), I decided to try a quick build of something different for me. (Apologies for the camera phone pics in advance) I recently picked up a 1/200 Airliner kit. And when I popped open the box, found a bonus set of decals that peeked my interest. The kit went together fairly easily. Doing a quick search on the web showed most airline builders fill the windows and use decals instead so that's the way I went. Allowing for putty drying time and sanding, paint was done and dusted within a day and a half. Time for the the difficult part....the DECALS. These are all separate sections and takes a lot of care and patience. That's one side done and dusted. Pretty happy with 2 days work. Hopefully I'll get the other side next weekend. Cheers Jurgen
  20. Kit went together nice and easy. You just need to be mindful when test fitting some parts that they can be a bugger to get off again (I broke the front locating pin on the canopy that way). Other than that it's a nice quick build.
  21. Here's another recently completed build, Hobby Boss's 1/72 F-14B finished in the Jolly Rogers scheme.
  22. Hi all. Have just finished up Academys 1/72 F/A-18E. The kit has a snap fit design, and although it lacks the finesse of some other kits, still builds into a really nice Hornet. Had some issues with the decals but overall I'm really happy with how it turned out. A great quick OOB build that leaves plenty of time to practice painting and weathering techniques Hope you like it.
  23. Beautiful finish! Love the tones you achieved in the paint work. I'm just finishing off the exact same kit at the moment. Hope it turns out like this!! Well done.
