  1. Hello chaps,

I was not totally happy with my previous pics, for 2 reasons:

    1) the Marquez figure was not completely finished, as I had not yet assembled the fingers (2 ones at left, 4 ones at right), cut at the beginning of the work. Notice that the 4 fingers missing on the right hand were not visible on the mentioned pics.

    2) the bikes and figures were placed on the showcase base.

Here are the very last pics I made, on a black cardboard, ever posted in my WIP Honda RC213 Repsol thread:

Now I leave you to go back to my Ford Mustang build, that I am strongly determined to complete.

Incredible work. I can't even fathom the time and effort required. 👍

I confirm, slippers!! But happily, all this time and effort meant also a lot of fun.

And a deep satisfaction at the end of the long road.

It is important to recall that initially, I was just supposed to build a single Honda Repsol Tamiya kit out of the box.

It is little by little that this initial simple project turned to first a highly detailed build without cowls, that I then decided to build the same bike with cowls, barely less detailed.

Only then I decided to represent the mechanic and finally Marquez on his bike...

Maybe one day I will create a little dio of the Honda stable.

But now I want to go back to my Ford Mustang build, left aside for a long time while the Repsol bike was just first a way to regain model making pleasure when I was confronted with problems that I couldn't overcome.

  4. Hi Rob,

I ´ve just seen your PM.

I will send you my folder with pleasure as soon as possible.

And yes, I used Tamiya epoxy resin to mould the helmet, but also many other elements of the figure, such the boots. Of course, there was a delicate  carving and sanding job to get a smooth surface. Notice that for the helmet, among others, I made a compromise, the real one being in fact more complex in shape than mine.

I also used other materials for some details (tin sheet, plastic card, LC resine etc.).

    Very nice.

Have you considered some wear on the knee and toe sliders?

    Thanks Bertie.

I see what you mean, but my Marquez is represented « clean », before the race, taking place on a « clean » bike.

But I admit it would be interesting to see an after race version, with wear on the knees, among others…

    Hi Oliver,

Beautiful work. Please can you help me. I am also trying to create a Marquez figure. How did you manage to get the sponsers decals especially the helmet and boots? I'm new to modelling so any help would be grateful.

    Hi Rob,

    First thanks for the compliment.

Now you say you are new to modeling. I don’t want to discourage you in your will to, as well as I did, represent the Marquez figure, but you have to know that it was ever a big challenge for a quite experienced modeler like me, and even if I don’t have the time I would like for my hobby, consider that it took me nearly one year to get this result that remains for me a compromise as well as the mechanist, the other figure I wanted to represent to bring a human presence near and on the GP bikes.

I had done such a choice representing Pietro Bordino in the Fiat 806 and it is a bold choice that was not unanimous  at the time.

The decal job is a very patient job, with many corrections until you get the desired result, but it is just an aspect of the whole work.

You will have also to be a carver and a painter, you will need a fierce will to go through your project.

Now regarding the decal job, here are indications that could help you:

there was a big research work first, to get many pics on different angles of the Marquez race suit. I have been watching some of the 2014 GP races (especially the pre-race when drivers are on the starting line) on YT and capture screens were made, all that to get precise infos about the inscriptions and logos (many) on suit and helmet.
After that, I have used internet to find the logos.

I didn’t create a WIP thread about this figure to earn time, but I may share with you or anybody here (on request and by PM, not to burden this page) my heavy but essential photo folder (including all logos) used for my project.

For some decals, the logos had to be distorted. I used the Photoscape X app for that job.

Then came the time to adjust the size of each logo, using Word.

Then decals were created by printing (HQ) the logos on white virgin decals.

After applying Microscale LDF, the decals could be applied.

Quite often, I had to paint over the decals to get a more convincing result, very delicate painting job.

Good luck in your project anyway, and if you have the required will, you will see that it will make you progress a lot in this demanding but exhilarating discipline that is model making.

    Cheers, O

  7. Hello my friends,

Nearly one year ago (last January 20), I showed my Marquez bike with cowls in place. I also showed the figure I bought to represent Marc Marquez, on which I just began the work…

Here is below the Minichamps original figure I used. Ironically, it represented Valentino Rossi, one of the most famous opponents to Marquez:

After months of patient work, I am now happy to show you my Marc Marquez figure, waiting to show it on the bike, quite soon:

  8. Hi again,

First thanks for your likes and kind comments (Thierry, your Mercedes pics are really great, hats off!! 👍 ).

Next step: Marquez on the beast. This will be for a bit later, since I am in holiday now.

The question for me now is: what should be my next project?

    Come-back to the Mustang?

Or build the Porsche 934 Vaillant Tamiya at 1/12 for which I bought an expensive aftermarket detail set? I should be able to see the real car that is exposed at the Brussels car museum (my daughter is living at Brussels and we will spend a few days in the very next days there).

    All the best, Olivier

  9. Hello again chaps,

I have been silent for a long time, but I was though still working on my Marc Marquez figure project.

It has been a long and painstaking job, but it is now very close from being over.

For practical reasons, I had decided to work separately on the head (helmet) and on the body. More, the neck was a bit too long and it was anyway necessary to decrease it.

I am waiting for the Gravity 2K Gloss total curing, and then the head will be assembled on the body.

It will be time to place my figure on the bike, I look forward, and pics will of course be done to show the final result.

In the meantime, here are below the links to the short videos I just made and posted in YouTube:

All the best to all (hoping you will not have completely forgotten me) and a merry Christmas to all 🥳🎄!!

  10. Hello chaps!

After a little break (a few weeks), I got back to work for my mechanist figure. It is definitely not perfect, but I consider it is acceptable and will bring something more near the Pedrosa bike. I had first to reduce him quite a lot (see below the monster):

    spacer.png

As it was made from a very old polystyren Tamiya figure, I had first to fill the empty insides with resin (Brown Stuff) before  carving. Then began the long sculpture to get an acceptable 1/12 figure. It appeared though that, even with a hard reduction, the Kitano head I had bought would be too small for this body. More, I considered that it would be interesting (and satisfying) to do my own head painting job even if, being not at all a specialist in figures, the head I would get from the Tamiya figure would be poor compared with the great Kitano’s one. I just got his ears back, and grafted them on the Tamiya mechanist head. I also had to modify the right leg, in order my figure to be more stable (I didn't want it to fall on the bike next door!). When I considered the sculpture was acceptable, then the painting job could begin. Used the docs I could get of the Honda GP mechanists in 2014, I painted the outtfit Night Blue. I ordered and glued 2-3 mm flock nylon from Green Stuff World to figure hairs, and then came the decal step. Here too, I used docs and found logos in the Net, that were printed at scale on White custom decal paper. Most of the decals lacking contrast, I had to paint over them, a very delicate job..

Finally, a coat of Marabu satin was applied and here is the result:

  12. Hello my friends,

Here it is! My 2nd Honda Repsol bike, with cowls in place this time, is now ready for inspection.

Even if it is a bit less detailed (mainly regarding cables running under the dashboard), I admit I love it and probably even prefer it to the first one, maybe because it is the last build, but above all because the cowls in place give the best perception in term of design and aerodynamics of this beautiful G.P bike. The decision to build a new model is for me, as for most of you I suppose, the result of an aesthetic crush, and the first time I saw the Tamiya box-art of this 2014 Honda Repsol, I thought I would build it some day.

I finally build it 2 times!

For this 2nd build, I sometimes used alternative approaches for some details (no use of the provided decals for the Black stripes on the seat cowl and the tank cover, or yet use of the Kevlar Fiber pattern SK decals inside the upper cowl instead of the painting option), but most of the time, I was faithful to my first build. So, the Top Studio Chain set was patiently assembled and set in place another time to represent faithfully the chain, and, to give another example (I could give many), the rims were dug using the same technique than for the first build.

    Here are below the pics:

  13. Hello to all,

I wish to all of you a happy 2023 year! Peace, health, human rights preserved everywhere (we can dream...), and many good moments with your family and your favorite hobby!!

My 2nd bike is going on, and should be over soon (maybe end of January). The experience of the first build, the bit less level of detail added to not posting my progress allowed me to go faster.

Here are below some pics giving an idea of what is ever done and what is yet to do:

  14. Thanks again chaps!

I began all now the 2nd bike (the engine is ever assembled and painted) for which my own WIP thread will be very useful.

Considering the experience I got with the first build, this second one should take much less time, especially since it will be a bit less detailed and since I will not spend time posting in the forum this time.

I hope this 2nd bike will be finished end of this year or beginning of 2013.

For the ones who would like to take a look to the WIP dedicated to this Pedrosa Honda Repsol 2014, here is the link:

  15. Thanks a lot my friends for your likes and kind comments.

Here are, as promised, the last pics of this finished build, showing close-ups of several areas:

My bike is gonna take to way to my dental office where it should be temporary displayed near the Fiat 806 (both builds being 1/12 scale), waiting for the 2nd bike. After having been crucial for the build, the jig will be very useful for the delicate transport in a shoe box:

    spacer.png

    spacer.png

    And a few hours later:

    spacer.png

Funny to associate such different models, but after all, the scale is the same (1/12) and, even if they are about 87 years apart, it is precisely interesting to see the evolution in design between 2 GP beasts... Anyway, this association should remain temporary, as mentioned above.

Happy modeling to all, and, as says Hamden, one of my most faithful follower in the WIP, stay safe!

    Cheers, Olivier

  16. Hello to all,

When I began the build/ thread dedicated to the Honda Repsol 2014, it was to take a break while I was struggling with paint problems on my 1/16 AMT Ford Mustang 1964 Convertible. I thought then that I would build it straight for the box or nearly so.

It appeared very quickly (as Jochen had foreseen) that it would turn to a highly detailed build, using several details sets (mainly from Top Studio but also from Blue Stuff, Decalcas, Tamiya etc.) and bringing also my own touch for many details. It appeared then that it would be a pity to hide all these details, wires, cables under the cowls. I decided so to keep only the seat/ tank cowl, while all the other ones would be exposed separately.

Then came other ideas: build a second bike, that would be the Marc Marquez one (this one is the Dani Pedrosa, using the Pedrosa Blue Stuff set), with a bit less details and with cowls assembled on the bike.

But this, with probably a mechanic working on the "naked" Pedrosa bike and Marquez sitting on the one to come, and if possible with a little paddock scenery, is for later...

I thank warmly here all my followers in the WIP section, who encouraged me and sometimes, gave me a hand to avoid errors. In particular, gamblor 916 was my GP expert, me who was up to now totally ignorant on motoGP.

I am very happy with the result, especially since the last build I was able to finish was the 1/48 Nieuport Ni 11, in May 2020.

I apologize for the Mustang followers, this build will go on waiting, but I prefer to go on and begin asap the 2nd bike. I will not open a new WIP thread for this 2nd bike. The latter will appear in the RFI section when over.

And now the last pics of this highly detailed Honda Repsol 2014:

  17. Thanks a lot gamblor for this suggestion. It is good to know such a clear epoxy resin exist, and maybe I will order some.

But now that my front racing stand is built and painted, it appears that it doesn't give the bike more stability.

That is why I will probably represent only one front stand, while there will be of course 2 rear ones.

Even if I still have a little time to spend on this bike (piping and front fender), I couldn't stand removing it of its straightjacket (the so useful Marco Model jig) and to present it for the first time with both racing stands:

    spacer.png

To show the beast with its cowls, I chose to change the cardboard for a Grey one (Meng cutting mat), more suitable with a G.P paddock:

    spacer.png

    spacer.png

Now a word about the mechanic I'm supposed to represent. I got a few weeks ago the Kitano head that is really great.

Pity, Ron was right, the Tamiya body is oversized and the head is too small for such a body. I began to decrease (quite a lot) the neck but it is the whole body that will require a significant reduction, what will not be so simple (probably easier though than when I turned Sir Lawrence of Arabia piggybacking on his bike into Pietro Bordino sitting in his Fiat 806, see the thread dedicated to this build).

    Cheers, O

    Edit a bit later:

I also had the idea to show the bike with a driver on it. Of course, as you know, the driver will jump the 2nd bike (yet to build...) that will have all cowls assembled, and the combination, boots and helmet are not at all the colors of Honda Repsol. It will be another challenge to change Valentino Rossi with Ducati colors into Marc Marquez with Honda ones, but it is though interesting to see that, except hands that can't hold the handlbars for now, the position of the driver (who is correctly sized, him) is really convincing imho:
