  1. I thought the same thing and never bothered to renew my subscription, the only modelling magazine I ever subscribed to and the only magazine I bought binders for, this was several years ago though and have never even bothered to have a look at recent issues as even the front cover never interested me, sounds a bit off-putting I admit!
  2. Maybe it's 'cos they're in a shopping centre here in Ipswich, though to be fair the one I went into at Peterborough weren't much different. Been in there once in the last year, that was only because I wanted to waste some time over my dinner hour. Galaxy wasn't much a shop in the end, it was competition from all over and I think Gary didn't have the heart in it at the end. Scograil has now moved not far from me and is great for sundries such as paint and blades but other than that there isn't much about eh? Have to make do with Hannants up the road, pity really as Model Junction in Bury is great, maybe an opportunity for a business, I've been in retail 25 years, who'll stump up the investment?!
  3. Having seen this and having issue 1 already and impressed I'm putting my name down for issue 2 too Cheers, Tony
  4. Crikey this is a blast from the past for me, did PM him I think but nothing further happened, not that I was vexed, understood he was doing it as a bit on the side and was in no hurry, was just nice to have the possibility this could happen and I could have a crack at it with my Victor, which is still patiently waiting!
  5. What a way to welcome me back to the hobby!! Been "off" for a year and a half restoring an old Saab and now nearly finished I'm after something else to spend my time on, short of cash and modelling for what it is compares well to the money I've been spending! Come on here (been visiting every so often over the last few months/year) and look what the talking point is I'll be snapping one up for sure, the resurgence of Airfix continues with it's brand appearing in more and more places so good luck to the bods with developing more stuff and if the higher price of the kits enables more R&D then so be it, we ain't gonna get another mainstream manufacturer to produce subjects like these.
  6. Totally forgot and missed this, been away from modelling for year and a half and the interest is coming back!! The question I've gotta ask is: is it sold out?
  7. Wasn't it Fairford where spectators outside the fence rather foolishly stood behind the B-1? Constellation is something to look forward to, be nice to see the VC-10 et al but I'm expecting one or maybe 2 if we're lucky high flypasts and that'll be it
  8. Reckon the cost will be the biggest factor, must be a fortune for the Spitfire/Hurricane so for a Phantom probably cheaper to buy a second hand airworthy example
  9. Most of us don't know what exactly our armed forces have down there or available at short notice, I'm pretty sure there are plans laid up for any aggression and a close eye is being kept on the situation, even more so with British companies digging around for oil! Pity the Phantom being scrapped, but maybe one of the worse places to have an aircraft out in the open!
  10. Nice to see it arrive, well worth it seems and being a SAAB car nut this does appeal to me. Only thing I can ask is will be available from retailers here?
  11. I bought them too, think it was around 1988? Anyway got all of them plus binders, one of the most readable formats I've ever seem art work was great but I never had any kits or anything with them, had no mention of a kit either, maybe it was a regional thing?
  12. There's this: http://inscale.org/pub/index.php?topic=1609.0 which was on here at somepoint but the links to the pics have gone awry, unless it's just me...
  13. Remember it way back in the early 80's and although in my opinion it was never the best in variety (even my local Bentwaters seem to have more variety) it was the most different, it had the most American atmosphere with burger stands, Mountain Dew every where and so many US accents that with nice weather you could almost believe you were in the US, this is what made it enjoyable, all the people stationed there certainly made you welcome and the fact it was less than an hour from me, today's traffic means that won't happen again though!
  14. Maybe redoing one mould or copying the broken one is a cheaper and easier route rather than doing a whole new one?
  15. Britannia is very expensive to buy now, I was lucky to get it when still in production, if I'd known I'd bought loads more!! Series 302 if I remember right, still got the transfers I think as I done it in BOAC: http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.p...c=44472&hl=
  16. Got to admit I haven't read the post, not being broken up makes it in my eyes harder to read. Certainly not commenting on the content or the grammar, it's just harder to read if you don't space it out with paragraphs etc...
  17. Hot damn!! And I remember the blurb they wrote saying they expect to sell out quickly!!! This is the sort of price it should be at!
  18. Too right, my girlfriends 10 year nephew couldn't give a monkey's armpit who manufacturers the kit or what the quality is like, he enjoys bunging it together, slapping some paint on it and enjoying it. For the younger modeller you have to look at it through their eyes and what is important to them is certainly not what is important to the "enthusiast" Even for me I don't care so much on the accuracy or the quality, its the subject matter, having made the Vulcan in the past I didn't and don't care on the quality as such, its the aircraft itself I was interested in building and even if it meant it wasn't accurate, it looked vaguely like a Vulcan and that is all that matters.....each to their own is the saying I believe
  19. Yup, well that's what commentator said about Buccaneer being in for repaint sometime between now and May.... Lightnings are the ones only really under cover in Wattisham's old QRA hanger they've just recently put up. Apparently the Iskra was in the Vulcan's old hanger getting a repaint, very nice too, could swear I could smell hot paint together with burnt kerosene!! Long way to go but worth it every couple of years or so, specially with ice weather, pity the different groups couldn't band together to get some of the aircraft under cover, as the Lightnings are showing that it makes the world of difference
  20. Probably this time next year, remember if you're pessimistic you've less chance of being disappointed!!!
  21. At first I read as you were winding us all up about finding one for £3.71 at a charity shop or something!! Another one here puts his hand up to see some pics
  22. Think I remember you mentioning this before, you really do have the bit between your teeth with this?! I've got the one that isn't being released, can't remember which one but have the 2 seat conversion as well and the whole kit looks very nice, I'm just teasing myself by not starting it!
  23. Not enough Valiant action? Damn right! Been on the look out for more progress, million tines faster than I build at! Looking good though, getting to the part I like best, painting,
  24. That was mentioned in last months SAMI, think what the reviewer done was to alter the shade of grey slightly, course if you can you can scan the supplied sheet and then print another with slightly different colour, or was that what the reviewer done, sorry, age doesn't do my memory much good!!
