    Airfix 2020

Well as a starter for 10 there is the Argosy from Mach2
  2. Very interesting, besides the thought of either repairing the tool or recreating it the picture of the old box top is enough to make me dribble Might be worth getting hold of one of the mods about putting this thread into the manufacturer news section, may get some more eyes on it then if it's appropriate
  3. Hit the nail on the head there, everyone is reading too much into it, a good box top and the sheer size of it will definitely attract the casual buyer and at the end of the game is this not Airfix's biggest audience?
  4. I reckon Airfix love to see these threads start, not for the publicity and keeping the brand in many peoples mind but to see what subjects they can look into doing! They don't need a think tank to look for subjects when they have you lot to look to The Vulcan keeps coming up and whilst it's still in production and selling fine then why do another? Maybe it's old, out of shape (sounds like me!) but for the casual buyer which lets admit it, is most of the people who buy kits in the first place then the resources can and should be used for other projects. For me the popularity of certain era's of history - for some reason I'm thinking post WW1 to WW2 with the romance of the era with steam trains and the tv shows such as Maigret and Poirot emphasizing this then I'll throw in a Supermarine S6b, winner and with plenty of history and character, would look good to on a beaching stand, there, I've done it now, I've joined the crowd, I've been sucked in, hell, while I'm here a fresh large scale JU88 would be nice, or as mentioned a bf110. At a larger scale for casual interest it has to be really a subject from the 1960's backwards, purely because these subjects have more substance for want of a better word, anything modern has slab sides, flat non de-script shapes that doesn't hold the interest in pure appearance like the older subjects. As an example, a Tigercat has more things of interest to actually look at than say a F16, well, that's my opinion anyway... As for the announcement, they'd be crazy not to announce something, the busiest, biggest event in the year for them and many others? Foregone conclusion really, Airfix needs to have something different to attract the bods in and to be in peoples mind when there's loads of other stuff to look at but in the meantime:

Or they're all being set up to be released as "Classic" kits!
  6. For all we know it could be Hornby making a 2 tier situation, anything before Hornby being put into Classic boxing at a cheaper price and the newer "premium" Airfix still in the modern red banner. You have to remember that 99% of buyers won't have a clue what the kit is like inside but if it is at a good price and it looks appealing in the "cartoony" type artwork then it won't matter and even if they are disappointed it won't reflect on the "premium" Airfix as they look so different, hell, I'm not a ship modeller and haven't done any for 30 years plus but the Ark Royal is damn tempting!

The supermarkets plan promotions especially non foods way way in advance (they have to if sourced from China, got buyers etc out there searching the best deals from the cheapest sources) so with enough notice anything is possible, even now they'll be checking out Christmas stuff, whether they'd want to is a totally different of kettle of fish.

Exactly, there's barely interest in 1 or 2 kits let alone a range and it has to be the latest, trendiest toys that is stocked and that's the reason to 2 range reviews/2 refreshes a year (which makes my life harder as I have to do them, really don't like grafting if I can help it lol) it's the same for Scalextric and the rest of the Hornby Range. Maybe, just maybe is if Hornby "persuaded" the supermarkets with a good enough deal so that a whole promotion end (plinth) is promoted (similar to what Aldi/Lidl do with their special buys) then awareness and sales may come along, maybe........
  9. Got the 2015-16 can't remember now "yearbook" from Sainsburys though didn't think they'd carry on with it in the following years
  10. There'll be more chance of finding this rather than a new Vulcan That's what many seem to think the Vulcan is. Airfix are onto a good thing just as it is, why spend cash on something that isn't going to give any more than the current tooling is, think of the wider picture, the majority of buyers of the Vulcan in the future don't give a haggedy-honk whether it's a new tool or not, apart from cost and a new tool would definitely put them off
  11. Did read engine failure but that's all conjecture, also read it's back on it's wheels in a hanger, didn't read any more as it's al third hand information so who knows
  12. See it go round on it's landing circle, looked odd on the downward leg and at the end turning to land it appeared it didn't have enough room to turn onto the runway... pilot obviously gave up on trying to make the turn but was way too low and slow and see it disappear behind the green building? near the Superhanger (We were near American Air Museum) and that was that, was heartened a little as there was no smoke or flames (seen several crashes in the past unfortunately) and heard the good news the pilot was ok from a guy behind the counter in the American Air Museum
  13. Thanks, always time to look at a Britannia, as you say looking a bit sad, specially as it was the last Britannia to fly? Anyway would love to see it fly but don't think it will
  14. At the end of the day, which is costlier to operate? Easy answer that, trickier question - is the F-16 better value with the tasks it'll have to do compared to the F-15? Who isn't looking to cut costs nowadays and it's obvious what they want to do....
  15. I thought they were also used as a recruitment tool, how many of us see youngsters with Red Arrows hats, overalls and the like at airshows?
  16. ^^^^ One of the best comments I've seen on here and so true!
  17. You have to think outside of the box.... With good artwork it's something different, may well appeal to the less serious modellers and the more casual ones, the sort who gets birthday/Christmas presents from mothers/girlfriends/boyfriends etc so are bought on the fly so to speak. Indiana Jones films immediately went into my mind when first hearing it being released, I know it wasn't in any of the films but it's from the same era, when exploring was big news and the pilots even bigger news, an unusual subject for sure but we all have to remember Airfix isn't just pandering to the people on this forum ad others. Best of luck to Airfix, maybe, just maybe I'll buy up one even though I'm not remotely interested in this era, it just looks...... "good"
  18. Diligence was a oil support ship originally until the Falklands war https://ukdefencejournal.org.uk/rfa-diligence-sold-years-early-without-replacement/
  19. My one and only vac-form, the Airways version.......Thought they went for a fortune nowadays, obviously not. Love the Britannia sooo much went and gave it a bash.. For a vac form pretty good, metal undercarriage and props, used clear-cote I think it was for windows, trickiest was making all the windows the same size. This was years ago now, one of the props has flew off somewhere, one wheel has fell off and haven't got around to redoing it, waiting for the Mach 2 release lol
  20. Oh crikey, I have done vac-forms and resin and even the bod at Hannants where I bought it made sure I knew what I was getting into with Mach 2 so I haven't gone in blind but I love the look of the Argosy so much I had to go for it, now I'n thinking what the hell have I done??! lol
  21. Depends on where you park? They've done this at Waddington I believe when The Thunderbirds turned up and if it's a no go area it really is a no go area!
  22. Nice, great camera stuff and good to see a bit of the Suffolk countryside around Woodbridge
  23. Much to my frustration it's been like it for years, ever since Farnborough moved to July is when Fairford moved and so clashes with Flying Legends
