  1. Very much a precision strike weapon with minimal collateral damage effect?
  2. Is it? To me Brimstone is just Hellfire on steroids so if thats what SPEAR is then it's nothing like a cruise missile! I'll obviously have to read around the subject a bit!
  3. Hope you e got yours Alan? Mine arrived on Monday - huge box, possibly too big but I suppose it could be living accommodation for something! The one thing that’s jumped out and disappointed me is the lack of crew boarding ladder and associated bay and door. Italeri do it with their A model. Now trying to establish the U.K. weapons fit and whether the wing pylons might be used. Might be a long time before they are - assuming we bought pylons? I’m thinking of opening out the holes and using magnets to hold them on if fitted! Maybe no ‘beast mode’ for the RAF/FAA ??
  4. Yes I noticed that and wondered the same. This is where Fantasy Printshop spring into action and sell you an A5 sheet of Union Flags!!
  5. Thank you for that. When I mentioned cruise missiles I was thinking Storm Shadow as I believe Typhoons can carry that? I assume SPEAR is the Storm Shadow replacement? As for Meteor isn’t that basically a European AIM-120 ? I recall it being an option for non-RAF Typhoons a long time ago - at least with Revell anyway!!
  6. That surprises me. I know the SUU pod wasn’t ideal on the Phantom but the USMC seem to be able to use their Gatling, presumably air to ground. It’s the old ‘internal gun’ argument and we know how that ended the last time. I’m surprised it wasn’t included at the design stage but maybe it weighs too much? Knowing the RAF it will probably be acquired further down the line when we can afford to buy 4 or 5 pods!!
  7. Having just acquired the Trumpeter kit I’d be interested to know what the U.K. weapons fit is and whether there is any plan to fit the jet with pylons (‘beast’ mode). I’m guessing AIM-120 and Paveway IV in the weapons bay. If pylons fitted then maybe ASRAAM with PWIV on central and inboard wing pylons. Possibly cruise missiles as an alternative. And what about a gun pod - I’m aware that the USMC have a podded gun on the centreline station. I look forward to receiving some clarification please! Thanks Simon
  8. I didn’t appreciate that the cowls were different. As for the nose glazing, the ‘J’ model glazing didn’t look quite right to me so thanks for clarifying. Bit it might be a project for someone skilled in 3D work? I was looking at the CAD imagery and you can see a longeron or at least a ‘floor’/transverse bulkhead below the turret ring which looks the same section. As the fuselage fore and aft of the turret so it is a fairly localised section of fuselage that needs changing to make a Boston III. In some respects a Boston III conversion might be a better option than expecting HKM to produce a new fuselage. But time will tell!
  9. Thank you Neal, that is pretty much where I started. I’ve also spoken to Reskit because, surprise surprise, they do two versions of GBU-12 but not the PWIV. Hopefully they will do one before to long!
  10. My original query arose because the Trumpeter Harrier GR.7 kit includes GBU-12 bombs and I wondered how that compared to the PWIV. I now know a lot more as a consequence of replies to this thread and looking at photos of the two bombs so the PWIV is quite different in detail compared to the GBU. The most noticeable things to me are the ‘saddle’ on the PWIV, the conduit that only covers the guidance unit and the GPS receivers on the top and bottom of the PWIV compared to the receivers on the sides of the GBU. But that’s quite a lot of differences!
  11. I think that was pretty obvious in view of the G part’s breakdown but I really want a Boston III !! I wonder if you could back convert the J/K airframe by removing the turret and building a new rear fuselage? A bit lengthy but maybe someone skilled in 3D printing could do it? But will HKM do one for release in 2025??? Who knows!!
  12. Wow Steve, that is very comprehensive, thank you! Simon
  13. So it looks as though the PWIV has the large saddle and the conduit along the side is larger and extends further forward than in the Enhanced US version so that the GPS sensors have to go on the top and bottom of the PWIV but can fit on the side of the Enhanced GBU ? Julien - That Dutch bomb is different again - much chunkier conduit compared to US GBU-49 and the 'saddle' is not as defined as the one on the RAF PWIV !! Any idea when the RAF started using the PWIV ? Did they ever use the GBU prior to PWIV ? I have an idea that the PWII is also available as a 500lb bomb so I don’t know if the RAF ever used that - I know they used the 1,000 lb version of the PWII.
  14. I’m after some technical assistance on the difference between these two bombs. From what I can tell the RAF PWIV came in two versions, the original then an updated version with GPS as well as laser quidance. Reskit do a 1/32 GBU-12 but not PWIV. Is the original PWIV the same as a GBU-12 and when did the enhanced PWIV enter service? Id be grateful for a bit of clarification please! Thanks
  15. I think so, I'm sure I saw a link on eBay to Dawn Grocery or similar for the Dambuster boxing yesterday.
  16. Good to know that at least something is standard across the HL range!!
  17. Probably not. Having something like a Challenger or Leopard is to have quite a beast but how many times can you drive it around before you think of something else? To some extent it depends where you might use it. If you live in a flat then it would be very limited but if you have easy access to a garden or similar ground then there may be potential. If your son had a friend or two also with a tank then that might make things very different. Certainly not easy. The cheaper option might be a Heng Long 1/24 tank instead of 1/16. A bit smaller but maybe a compromise?
  18. Fair enough. To answer your question - No - but I know where they all are!! I have 8 done with 7 to do but having a bit of a rest from tanks. The problem is that I don’t have anything to do with them after they’re finished - run to make sure they’re working as intended then into storage box, batteries out!!
  19. Best of luck - nothing quite like deadline. I assume that there will be tears before bedtime if all the tanks aren't up and running??
  20. To be honest I don't know but you would tend to think that HL would keep on using the same bits! Probably best to wait until you get a response!
  21. Ooh, thats good news Paul. I expect that it will sell very well and I bet it's available at Telford in November ? Amazing thought that in February Richard wasn't interested! Thank goodness he changed his mind then.
  22. The 1/32nd Roden 2 seater has been available for 2-3 months now! Go to the beginning of this thread.
