  1. Yes , Harry is very reliable , and will make it bespoke , to the Model - just needs a week to design it ( if its not been made to measure for an existing ship he's done )
  2. show's you how to use the new Dead Run rigging tool to get correctly angled Deadeyes on your scale model sailing ship in one run. It works with his Rat Harp to add ratlines, deadeyes, and shrouds combined, both on and off the model. https://houdinimodels.com.au/harp/ - for sale here recommended for all
  3. For me , the must have kit of 2024. So much better than Classic airframes and AZ models/ Hobby Craft offers...
  4. your best read is Roskill's book Naval Policy between the Wars ( V2 ) - to quote ' the Fleet's acute shortage of AA ammunition ' - ( pg 254 ) - was Highlighted by the Commander in Chief Mediterranean On 2nd September 1935 , almost the entire stock at Home was sent out by the Admiralty - of AA shells There is a whole Chapter 248 to pg 278 - hope this helps ??
  5. I have his definitive book on British Battleships, 1st edition from 1976..superb reference. Even in the late 80's when I bought it it was not cheap. Worth every penny though.

  8. I have the Merit HMS Ark Royal in the stash - with a lot of aftermarket ready for it , when I get time to start on it 20231031_085034 by hmswalker, on Flickr namely Tetra Super-Detail set , North Star of Ukraine ( bought just a few weeks before the Russian Invasion ) HACS Directors , Veteran 1/350 Ships Bridge Controls ( eg Pelorus ) White Ensign Models photo-etch for extra purchased Trumpeter 1/350 Blackburn Skua fighters , Infini Deck winches for the Carrier sides and the 1/350 metal IJN Voice Pipes for Ships Bridge Micromaster - 1/350 HMS Ark Royal Anchors ( a vital replacement for the tiny , inaccurate Plastic Kit anchors ) and lastly but not least , my last 2 x 1/350 Accurate Model Parts of Australia ( now sadly closed ) Fabric Silk White Ensigns 330800382_3439189899702057_2756096822478047060_n by hmswalker, on Flickr what I will say was the Shapeways ( from MicroMaster ) Turrets were a superb item , that I had bought in August 2019 I ordered these replacement Turrets from Micro Master on the Shapeways website ( he is based on Shapeways ) for the Trumpeter 1:350 scale HMS Hood. The existing Kit Trumpeter turrets to their 1:350 scale Hood are a dog's breakfast. With all the effort that the company put into the kit, it is amazing that they could so botch the turrets. The crowns are wrong. The front face is missing vision ports. There are missing details at the lower juncture of side plates and above all rear Turret vents for B and X Turrets . ( the 2 inner turrets ) These replacements add the correct Hex Nuts, Rivets, Periscopes, Stanchion Holders, Sighting Ports and Hatches Hood 40 by hmswalker, on Flickr The 4 Turrets and Turret adapters were not cheap ( about 91 Euros including Shipping ) but I ordered the very best quality in printing - smoothest fine detail plastic , nowadays MicroMaster retails them at £ 31 on his own website with better 3D printing in-house These are highly detailed parts for anybody wishing to build HMS Hood as she appeared upon her sinking, these are ideal replacements for the inaccurate parts found in the Trumpeter kit. These parts are modelled from the John Roberts plans and many reference photographs and information. These are the most accurate and detailed HMS Hood Turrets available, only for the real Hood purists. I used the Trumpeter TRU06601 - 1:350 - HMS Hood Upgrade Set - and the 15 inch Guns came with blast bags and without , plus paired 4 inch AA guns which I used , the only thing I discarded to sell on Ebay was the 4 propellors and 15 inch Blast Bag main guns 7113_1 by hmswalker, on Flickr as seen here ( I used brass rods between the twin main guns to keep them together in the turrret and a light weight at the rear of the turret to balance the turret ) Hood 40 by hmswalker, on Flickr

  10. I Bought the Trumpeter 1/350 scale HMS HOOD Kit back in early 2018 - and then steadily collected aftermarket parts for it ,- then I got divorced in Feb 2019 ( sheer torture - mostly financial ) then the Pandemic hit back in March 2020 and it was over 2 years of hard , unrelenting work for the NHS - wearing Full PPE - I was able to make some steady progress , but it would have been completed a while back , I finally finished it in 2022. luckily I had the vast majority of the Model aftermarket parts already bought , so there was no issue locating any ( the Artwox Wood deck is no longer sold , nor the Silk Fabric AMP White Ensign 1/350 scale Naval Flags ) I have not posted any photos , as at the time of construction / completion , I just didn't have the energy or will power - now I have the Model completed , its in storage , waiting for a NEW home for me and Hood / Repulse hopefully in 2024 I have a bespoke Display Case , with integral LED Lighting for the Model , that is gathering dust. so for a year and half , modelling has been on hold , looking after my Dementia 95 year old Father , at his house , working 4 days a week and saving up took priority ,for 2024 ( my ex Girlfriend developed dementia in 2022 , so bad , I had to move out , and return to Scottish Borders ) so life has been tough anyway the Model To the basic kit was added Eduard photo-etch ( actually exceptionally helpful , added a lot of missing detail and brilliant easy to follow instructions Flyhawk upgrade etch set on the other hand , brilliant quality , but only 4 pages of instructions ( in colour ) but awfully hard to follow , and very rarely a step by step assembly guide , a lot of guess work was involved in the Flyhawk set The Flyhawk super detail set for the Trumpeter 1/350 HMS Hood kit contains etched and turned brass parts including barrels and resin upgrades , ( which I didn't use - I used the Trumpeter upgrade set ) and you get 13 sheets of etched brass which are included to provide any missing detail to the original kit. I would point out that it does the job , but another HMS Hood etch set would be a good idea , as the Flyhawk detail set only provides so much extra detail although you do get nice 15 inch and 4 inch Brass Barrels - and 2 Pdr Pom-Pom Barrels. I would point out where the detail set is lacking , namely Brass bollards, mushroom vents and 2 brass Jack and Ensign Staffs ( although Hood had only the Ensign Staff fitted in 1941) . Items like these really add to the extra detail and are far better than the kit examples. The Flyhawk Super- Detail set (FH 350098) which is nice, does provides pretty good enhanced detail , but you probably will need an alternative manufacturer extra etch set , to provide missing details , if you wish. However , be warned !! - that the instructions were poor by current standards . Note also that, whilst the Flyhawk 2-pdr Pom Poms were nicer with turned barrels ,than the kit examples . I am not impressed with the Flyhawk Vickers quad 0.5in guns on Hood - which are represented with 2-dimensional photo etching by Flyhawk, so I recommend the Tetra SA-35010 Vickers Cal.50 Machine Gun ( which provides 4 Sets - enough for HMS HOOD ) . Note - you do not get a wooden deck with the Super detail set , an alternative is buying either the Pontos or Artwox Wood Decks ( both of which come with anchor chain). Overall , I would rate the set 3 out of 5 , however Flyhawk etch is lovely to work with - and well engineered . Trumpeter aftermarket brass barrels - aftermarket 4 inch and 15 inch brass gun barrels - they were a lot easier than drilling holes in the kit plastic , as they had an interconnected link , which I was able to fit inside the aftermarket Micro-master Main Gun Turrets - this saved a lot of work Big Blue Boy IJN Paravanes in brass and etch , with a Big Blue Boy aftermarket 1/350 metal brass Derrick for the Main mast ( saves a lot of time ) namely 1/350 HMS Vessel 40 Ft Derrick Set ( ref BB-35014 ) AMP of Australia 1/350 Fabric Silk Flag ( superlative quality !! ) I also sourced 1/350 scale aftermarket brass propellor screws ( not by Trumpeter ) the MAJOR improvement was using the Tetra quadruple 2 pounder pom-pom gun mounting set with brass barrels - fiddly but amazing detail I altered the Conning Tower as per HOOD Association instructions , and also the Spotting Top , and Aft Superstructure ( where the aft 2 pounder Quadruple pom-pom was fitted ) I added the Artwox Wood Deck ( highly recommended ) and fitted Micromaster 15 inch Main Gun Turrets ( a huge improvement ) you can't see it , put there are Pontos Display Pedestals underneath ( and very nice indeed ) - I had a Shapeways designer make me a better Display Nameplate seen here The Model before storage I forgot to add , its got 1/350 Scale IJN Brass Mushroom vents , direct from Japan. Infini Royal Navy deck winches - fitted mostly next to the main gun Turrets they are tiny but add a lot of detail ) , WW2 Electric Deck Winch Set C (Royal Navy) INFINI Model No. IMP-35042R1/ 1:350 this is the set 204646464_364250595269948_2903154954016472132_n by hmswalker, on Flickr 2 x Pontos Brass Ensign and Jack Staffs ( raided from a HMS Prince of Wales Pontos super-detail set ) Hope you like ? note - using IMGUR - and the results are shocking - the images are much , much bigger on my camera any alternative hosting site ? Flickr is a nightmare to find an URL link ( not user friendly ) I remembered the aftermarket 2 left and 2 right turn aftermarket brass propellors , it was G Factor HMS Hood - Propellers for Trumpeter - Number: 35005 They were excellent .
  11. Those sprues look light years better than the Classic Airframes old kit I will buy one of these no questions asked
  12. Thanks for very kind words - a word of advice for anyone wanting to upgrade the basic kit with the dedicated Eduard etch sets - they are discontinued , sadly .
  13. Thank you , it was fantastic to make the Personal Aircraft of this Italian Air Ace , Major Adriano Visconti di Lampugnano (11 November 1915 – 29 April 1945) . He was one of Italy's top flying aces of the Second World War, shooting down 26 enemy aircraft. This is another image , that I had in my computer on file - enjoy !
  14. I used the Hasegawa Instructions - https://www.stormomagazine.com/ModelArticles/MC205/RiccardoTrotta/MC205_2a.html plus others have done the spinner half black / white ( see link above ) I post a high quality of the Model as of today ( in display case ) - cockpit protected for future transport in poly balls to a new house .
  15. The Peddinghaus decals were just fine , I tested the 1990's Cartograf ones supplied in the kit They were terrible, fit for only for the bin . I have this last photo of the Peddinghaus Decals applied - for your pleasure and information
  16. I forgot to mention - that the Peddinghaus decals - miss out the Number 1 on the undercarriage wheel doors - so you have to source a replacement decal as seen here - also with the benefit of having completed the kits construction, I would strongly advise you to do as much gap and seam filling and sanding on sub-assemblies before final assembly. Keep an eye out for sub-assemblies that require some filler or seam filing to correct them before attachment. For example, parts A3 that goes on the air filter (part A4), the two oil coolers G7/G10 and G6/G8, and the fuselage seam where the rear centre part of the wings meet the fuselage all have noticeable seams or tiny gaps that are much, much easier to fill and sand before they are committed to their attachment points on the fuselage or partially obscured by other assemblies. This is one of the best Hasegawa kits that does not suffer from the non-fit of the lower wing to the fuselage. The wing to fuselage had no gap , just a small seam . I also tested the old 1995 Decals ( by Cartograf ) supplied by Hasegawa - on an old model - and for some reason it was really difficult to get them tightly onto the glossy varnished surface of the model. I used a lot of Micro Sol was, but I still couldn't avoid silvering in some places. my advice - ditch the old Decals Sheet and don't tempt fate .
  17. Thank you for all the very kind replies - I show 2 extra photos The Landing Flaps - by Eduard The Moskit Exhausts are far , far superior and more realistic ( plus not under-scaled as Hasegawa Depicts ) see the difference
  18. I bought this lovely Hasegawa kit in 2020 on eBay in the rare "A.N.R Version" which is a rare Hasegawa 1996 Boxing. I also took no chances with the 1990's Hasegawa decals and bought the new 1/48 aftermarket Peddinghaus Decals which depicts Adriano Visconti's famous "Red 18" C.205. 09178 was the second release of this kit (ANR) and is a difficult kit to find not to mention very expensive on Ebay usually . The purchase from the USA - of the rare Hasegawa Kit for the ' ANR Version Kit ' of the 1/48 Veltro cost me $ 38 US Dollars plus Surface Shipping ( tracked ) I gathered the following aftermarket items (1) Eduard Brassin Wheel Bay Undercarriage set for C.202 ( that also fits the C.205 ) and purchased the full Eduard etch sets for the Macchi C.205 ED48495 and ED49289. The Wheel Bay set added a huge amount of missing detail ( along with a nice etch set for the rivet details in the wheel bay ) I used 2 Brass Machine Guns from the Focke-Wulf 190 1/48 scale set by Master Models of Poland , for the nose gun ( which are absent from the Model Kit ! ) and also the rare C.202 Landing Flaps etch set - ED48907 Aircraft detail Macchi C.202 'Folgore' landing flaps (designed to be used with Eduard and Hasegawa kits) This , of course , was able to be fitted to the C.205 Kit . I also got the Eduard Paint Masks XF053.and I bought the fine Brass Pitot Tube (by Master Models) and last but far from least – the marvellous and very rare Moskit Exhausts. The Moskit Exhausts were not a drop-in fit , as the kit exhausts are too small and a bit too short - so the entrance for the exhausts in the Front Nose Fuselage needed to be widened and given extra length . A bit of extra work , but the improved look ( and accuracy ) made this well worth doing . as shown below As others have said, to cut costs and to cover the whole Folgore / Veltro lineage using as few different moulds as possible, Hasegawa made a Kit which seems just fine at first glance . However it's not accurate when it comes to the shape and situation of the various access panels and hatches primarily on the top wing ( they should be oval , not square in the Veltro ) . However, when you take a closer look you notice that that Series III Veltro’s had 20mm cannon fitted into the wings. The Four inspection hatches which Hasegawa gives you are Square (correct for the Folgore) but were oval in shape for the Veltro. Eduard produces a set of very useful photo-etch stencils that I used to re-engrave these hatches after I had filled in the old ones. These were re-scribed onto the model - with Plasticard added to make them stand out better ( so remember - rounded at the edges - not square as in the 202 Folgore - or as HASEGAWA depicts). Note - you also need to scribe onto the wing roots - 2 x Fuel Filler Ports ( not on the Kit and missed by Hasegawa ) This photo below explains it better - I also cut out the plastic edges of the wings where the wing tip lights were represented in solid plastic , and fitted cut clear sprue ( this was given a ' light bulb ' inside the clear sprue from the inside - and then the whole sprue was sanded smooth to match the wing tip , and have a landing wing tip light ( this detail was omitted by Hasegawa in 1995 ) one other matter , needing alteration was the rear of the radiator housing needed extensive additional detailing with Photo-etch by Eduard and also had at the rear, 2 (shutter actuators) struts and one horizontal stiffener strut (only 1 Vertical strut is provided by Hasegawa incorrectly). The Veltro bottom wings is where Hasegawa really cut costs in the mid 1990's. The C.205 Veltro requires 4 Cannon Tear drop fairings which are absent on the Kit Wings and are therefore needed to be created from scratch. So therefore your Hasegawa 1/48 Veltro needs four of these. One final obstacle is that the 2 ejection chutes that Hasegawa moulded into its lower wing are correct for machine gun equipped Folgores and early Serie I Veltros. They're totally wrong for Mauser cannon equipped Veltros. I needed 6 of them and cut out the new outer shapes according to the scale plans provided by Stormo and created the separations into two slots each wing (these were for 20mm Cannon casings, links and gas vent) with a Number 11 scalpel blade and used thin etch to create a third 'slot' at the bottom . The weakest points of the kit are the sparse cockpit interior, the totally undersized and unusable exhaust stacks and the undercarriage legs, which are riddled with ejector pin marks. In closing - my thoughts are that the HASEGAWA 1/48 MACCHI C.205 VELTRO is nearly perfect in shape and dimensions and shows off some of the finest surface detail you can get with a 1/48 scale Kit. I was lucky that I spotted that Eduard had produced the 1/48 C.202 Folgore BRASSIN wheel well set - which fits the C.205 with ease - it made a huge difference to the finished Model – I am very pleased with my Hasegawa C.205 Veltro and it now sits on its diorama with a bespoke nameplate. I hope you like this Model ? Sources 1) Stormo! 19. as i said , it confused me - the Dido Artwork was bought and paid for a year or two ( or more ) ago , so should be released sometime this year , hopefully
  20. I post a link to the new Trumpeter 2023/2024 Catalogue https://www.facebook.com/photo/?fbid=504262865229647&set=pcb.504263375229596 I have went over and over it ( even looking in the Hobby Boss Catalogue on the same Facebook page below ) and on the Trumpeter Catalogue - the Dido's have disappeared from the Catalogue - no trace . all 3 of the ships - hopefully , just a printing mistake > ?? also the Rodney in 1/350 Scale is gone , and only the Nelson 1944 is left ( 1/350 scale ) - Number 05619 - on page 72 ( oh , and to add insult to injury - the artwork depicts a Modern Carrier !! )
  21. Found the 1/350 Section of the Trumpeter Catalogue for 2023/2024 on a Chinese website forum page The Dido's seem to be the only new release pending that have artwork ( all 3 of the ships have Randall Wilson's commissioned artwork ) my guess is these will be released sometime this year , but I don't know when . for the record - Trumpeter seem to have cut back on their proposed new ships ( I think the H Class and O Class absorbed a lot of new research and production that might have gone into these ) The O Class is happening - I found this online of the photo-etch that comes with the O Class ( and a paint guide for the O Class that is for certain , by Trumpeter )
  22. I have pleasure enclosing the German WW2 ( what if ) Trumpeter O Class ( 1/350 ) not sure if this has been seen before - it shows the level of detail and above all , the photo-etch included
  23. The Very Fire 1/350 scale USS Atlanta is the first injection molded kit of this Pacific War US Navy Light Cruiser. The kit comes in a standard version and a deluxe version, which includes several photoetch sheets, turned brass barrels, turned brass masts and yardarms, anchor chain and a metal name plate. The kit is well engineered and the fit of all the superstructure parts and the guns is exceptional. The hull and main deck fit is also exceptional and the kit has a lot of small parts. Out of the box the kit is outstanding and if you want to build a museum quality ship model, he recommends considering upgrading all the kit’s guns, radars, small boats and lookout chairs with metal barrels and photo-etch , and resin for boats
