  1. This is what makes this build so special, it gives the whole thing the look of something that has been around and really lived. One of the things that I loved about the reboot of BSG was that they embraced old technology and used it specifically because it was old technology. Your build is is so much fun to follow because you are using all of these sort of familiar items. I’m loving it!
  2. Paint is going to be rough - that sand gets everywhere!
  3. Moly is the way to go - if you can get something like Molybdenum di sulphate which is a dry film lube then that is even better (trade name is Molykote)
  4. So I actually managed to make a start in my 3D printed lightsaber hilt today Today was spent disassembling, a little filing and dry fitting. Everything does already fit together, but not massively well so I’m cleaning all of the join points. the calculator ‘bubblestrip’ is Especially problematic, I need to lose a good 2mm from the overall width as well as around half a mm from the thickness. The plan is that mask all of he joins and then give it a good couple of coats of high build primer from Halfrauds before an eternity of rubbing down and wet flatting before I really start to do things properly. Still can’t decide if I’m going to build this as a rusty relic, used or mint condition. I think I’m going to settle on it having had some use (because I’m not yet able to do rust effects etc to a level I am happy with).
  5. I have to agree with all of the above, I was bitterly disappointed with the movie; I know you can’t please everyone all of the time, but more care was needed with this.
  6. Hope she likes it - the proof will be when she loads it on her birthday and then shoots you! I know all about your weather at the moment as I have family on South Island.
  7. Just delivered but way down the build list - the price was right though
  8. Sigh, ride to “Pit Stop” in town for a new set of rings on a Saturday, Sunday tap out a new set of gaskets, fit the rings and (sort of) run in, rag it all week... rinse and repeat... oh the joy of the 2 stroke and Casi R! I'm going to have to look at adding a bike kit to my stash, but I want 1:12 scale so that a scout trooper can have a new ride! Such a pity this particular kit is 1:10 or it would have been perfect.
  9. That is a very useful bit of info there Getunderit - I’ve stashed that away in my little book of things; many thanks!
  10. Cheers, it’s something I doodled ages ago that I use as the logo for my company (I’m a self employed engineer). Just in case any Disney lawyers are reading this, I can state that it was not at all inspired by a super star destroyer from ROTJ that was about to crash into the Deathstar II. I did choose the colours because they kind of looked SciFi spacesuit Mission patch (ish) Now I look at it, it sort of reminds me of the “Event Horizon” logo from the book “Mindstar Rising” by Peter F Hamilton. Never noticed before!
  11. I’m going to enjoy watching the build of the lighted landing platform
  12. I love the display base, the irregular shape is a really nice touch
  13. Really tempted by this, your colours make me want to see one in white and also to try a ‘rat bike’ Look with a lot of rust coming through. Love the base you have built there
  14. This has been such a good build thread, I’ve enjoyed you bringing us along for the ride, can’t wait for the finished shots!
