  1. That undercarriage control looks great Steve, nice bit of scratch building there! Looking forward to the kit coming together, think I'll be getting the Profipac when it comes out. Till then I'll be happy watching yours, and all the other in the GB! I've a feeling the squadron motif wasn't on all of their planes, time restraints possibly? I'd agree with Ray that something like Sky is a good guess for the background colour, but, the Yellow will look sooo much better, so gets my vote because, well, artistic licence! Geoff
  2. Great build, great finish, and an excellent wip! Really well done Steve, you've done 54sq and all the pilots proud with this. Geoff
  3. Busy few days for 54 squadron. I almost spat me beer all over me desk reading that! She's looking splendid there Steve, really like how the camo has come out. Well done!
  4. Thanks Stew, always prefer the used or lived in look, factory fresh just doesn’t feel right to me for some reason. The fuselage is all buttoned up, with a bit of a miss join over the fuel tank. All my own fault, the other joints were spot on. No matter how much I sanded it was still there so, on with some Tamiya extra thin and some spru shavings, then soak the lot in mor extra thin. I’m going to let that dry and then sand it back. See if that does the job. I’m happy with how the pit is looking from outside. The rudder and all the other bits went on without a hitch. Same with the wings, the parts just clicked together. Test fit of the wings to the fuselage shows just how well this kit is designed. No glue and no pressure and it’s pretty much there. With luck I’ll have that join sorted tomorrow, and get the wings on. Then it’s on to the painting, the fun bit! Cheers for looking in. Geoff
  5. Great choice there Ray, really looking forward to this. Got a pic of AZ H from the Wingleader Spitfire MKI archive book that's not in the link, along with a profile, happily ping them over to you if you think they'd help? Geoff
  6. That's something you never want to see! Same as above, deep breath, strong drink and a break for a day or two whilst you work out a plan. Would a new upper mast section be possible? Bit of brass rod, possibly 0.4mm, and CA? The yardarms could be saved and used again, maybe just a new ladder? Best of luck, she's worth the effort as she looks fantastic mate! Geoff
  7. There's a good thread below on the red patches, seems Edgar thought they were common from July onwards, but there's a lot of room for wiggling. Flory wash! The best bit in my opinion! Can wait to see it. Geoff
  8. Couple of weeks off, staring to feel human again now. Time to get back to the bench. Calling the Pit done now, and it’s glued into place. Fuselage half’s are now joined, just letting them dry and then I’ll look at the mess I’ve made of it. It’s going to need a touch of filler on the nose (and a healthy dose of sanding...). Will do a better update tomorrow, Along with starting a WIP for the Arma Hurricane. Happy Modelling All! Geoff
  9. She looks grand so far Steve, how much weathering are you thinking of doing? Jealous? Moi? Not at all... Hope it builds as well as it looks! Enjoy your holiday, think everyone needs a break at the moment. 🤪 Geoff
  10. Stunning build Beefy! The results speak for themselves on the oil canning, it's just right. Well done sir! Geoff
  11. Seriously Impressive! I do like the fact that there's not much rigging on a Fletcher, may tempt me to look at a 1/700 kit. Geoff
  12. Will be watching this with interest, an iconic duo, will be good to see these two together! Geoff
  13. Looking great in black Steve. Apart from the small seam any issues with the fit? Agree with the Sky underside and no roundels. Fuselage to mast to tail should be correct as well for this period, I'm checking on that detail myself at the mo. If I find anything I'll let you know. Can't comment on the mirror, Colin Gray was too good a pilot not to have one, but which is a bleedin good question! Keep up the great work. Geoff
  14. Almost forgot. Shhhhh, don’t tell anyone, but the big boys made me do it.... Will be starting a new topic for this soon. Don't tell SWMBO... Geoff
  15. I managed to finally get a session at the bench today. Oil and enamel wash inside the cockpit, seat painted all ready for a Matt finish once dry. Seatbelts are also added. I’ve gone for the plastic seat with the leather backing, does make the pit look more interesting. Must remember to attach the brace (?) between the seat frame and the frame behind. I’ve done a dry fit of the fuselage and there seems to be no issues. I’ll do a quick dry brush after the Matt coat then it’ll be time to close her up! Happy modelling all! Geoff
  16. Great job on the freehand, no chance I'll get that good! Agree with you on the post wing, dark earth areas could do with being a touch bigger. Geoff
  17. Busy day for 54 sqn today (as it were), and tragic at the same time. P/O. Allen seems to have had no luck there. Great job on the tub, the wash gives it a nice feeling of depth, creating some subtle shadows. And the belts look spot on! What do you think? Closed up, wings on and primed by the end of the weekend? Geoff
